4.20 Southwell Bladewood Girl remains one to tread carefully with, he is a hold up performer and that often doesn’t suit around here. She was ridden prominently on her only try on this surface but was still well below her best. Handsome Stranger has run respectably recently, but only has a seller to his name and yet to try this surface. Lexis Dancer is slightly interesting given she is a front runner but she clearly has her quirks and starting to look tripless. Moes Place has finished runner up last time out but ultimately still well beaten, does have form on this surface in uncompetitive maidens but struggled when switched to handicap on last start here. Looks a very skinny price given he still has something to prove. Mcconnell might be worth risking. Hasn’t been in much form on last 3 starts but hopefully a return to this surface in an uncompetitive race. He has 8 wins around here from 26 starts. He is dangerously well handicapped if putting everything in. Really promising apprentice takes the ride. 2pt win Mcconnell 4/1 VC 6.30 Southwell John Coffey might be worth taking on at a short price. He won nicely on turf last time out and gets in off the same mark but has had one run on this surface and was well beaten as a favourite. Spitfire isn’t a regular winner these days but clearly goes well fresh and been kept fresh all season and did win over CD in November off a 3lb higher mark. Putin is as tough as they come and does have a tendency to just pop up at times and as for trip not even worth discussing given he was won over 5f and all the way upto 1m4f! Lord Buffhead continues to be uninspiring on this surface. Again this isn’t the strongest race and Solarmaite may finally break the maiden tag. He was only just run out of it at the line at Wolverhampton last time out. He handles this surface and has gone close a couple times on it and any repeat of that Wolves run he has to go close. Yard continue in good form especially around here. 2pt win Solarmaite 7/2 SJ 7.00 Southwell This race has a lot more depth to it with several of these got good course form and in good form at the moment. Adili won a CD maiden last July but has done little since and hope relies on a return to this surface. Decana is 2 from 4 around here but those wins have come over 2f further which is a slight concern and was well held off revised mark on last try on this surface and on reappearance on polytrack so has something to prove for now. Mohawk Ridge has been well beaten on only try on this surface. Golden Jubilee is starting to look high enough in the weights now and yet to try this surface. Town Mouse is of some interest, he bolted up in a Leicester claimer in June. Showed nothing in 2 tries over hurdles since then and easily forget latest run in a claimer at Catterick when he bolted before the start and was probably a spent force should have never run. He may not be fully exposed yet but is yet to try this surface. Exclusion caused an upset over a mile in a maiden handicap around here, was hit fairly hard by the handicapper for that but backed that effort up last time out at Lingfield over 1m2f. Steps up to 1m4f today so has stamina to prove again and also up another 2lb but does atleast handle the surface and is of interest. Picalily may be the one to be with, she bolted up on first try on this surface over CD. Hit hard by the handicapper for that up 9lb, easily forget run 3 days ago around here when bit went through the mouth. Still unexposed and clearly has more to offer yet with useful claimer helping offset 5lb of the 9lb rise could still be well treated on this surface. 2pt win Picalily 4/1 VC

Re: Flat Racing 30th Aug 2.50 Sandown - 2pts win Wooden King @ 6/1 (Bet365) Malcolm Saunders' runner has the plum draw here in stall 1 and his running style suggests this will suit down to the ground and he could be tough to pass late on. He likes to race prominently so I would imagine Tom McLoughlin will get him rolling downhill against the rail so long as he breaks from the stalls well and the stiff finish should also play to his strengths as he sees the 5f out well. Conditions look absolutely spot on for him and he's been in good form of late. Won at Ffos Las on unsuitable soft ground two starts back and was only just beaten when closing into a head second at Goodwood last time out. This stiffer finish will help and I'm hopeful he'll go very close.
