Flat Racing 5th Aug

4.30 Wolverhampton Not exactly a great card when you consider this the best race on the card but even so there is one in here that looks a huge price. Spirit Rider looks a very short price given he is dropping back on trip from last time out and he looked to need a stamina test he also has plenty of quirks with an awkward head carriage. Blinkers may help straighten him out. A mark of 75 doesn’t look harsh on handicap debut but worry about his quirks. Pelmanism has been good form recently winning a claimer and then a handicap over CD in very good style up sharply by 9lb but has won off higher marks in the past but not always the most reliable in recent times. Berlusca has won 4 times in his career and they have all been around here so an obvious positive returned to this surface on the back of a better effort last time out. Does still remain 5lb above last winning mark so does need to find a little bit more from somewhere. Prime Exhibit isn’t as good as he once was but he is still a capable horse on his day and proved that last October when winning off a mark of 80 at Kempton, has since been relatively lightly raced and has only managed to pickup a seller since but showed a return to form last time out when staying on in a small field turf race which wasn’t really run to suit if building on that back on the AW he could easily go close off a mark of 75 and a price of 11/1 is too big. 1pt e/w Prime Exhibit 11/1 boyles 5.30 Wolverhampton Not many of these make great appeal. Giantstepsahead comes from a yard renowned for landing gambles and although only showed modest form in 3 maidens any money would be significant. Bang Tidy run last time out is worth noting given he was staying on nicely when not getting a clear run but does now have stamina to prove over this longer trip. Crucis Abbey does need things to fall right but is only 2lb higher for latest win and a mark of 50 still looks fairly lenient on very best form. Lexington Blue bolted up last time out in a 4 runner event at Musselburgh but is yet to encounter the polytrack surface and although a 6lb penalty doesn’t look harsh not sure that race took much winning and may find this tougher. Angel Cake had taken long enough to get off the mark but has now won twice over this course on last 4 starts including last time out when winning convincingly over 7f around here. Step back up in trip shouldn’t be a problem and most of penalty is taken off by useful apprentices 5lb claim so still looks very well treated. 2pt win Angel Cake 6/1 SJ

Re: Flat Racing 5th Aug Klynch - Ripon 3:45 - WIN @ 16/1 VC The Ruth Carr horses are very hard to catch right, but this horse now runs off a mark 2 pounds lower than his last winning mark. He is now down to a mark of 85, after a few bad runs in succession and his last win came at Thirsk off 87. He won very easily here at Ripon back in May, and when Ruth get's her horses nicely treated, she normally lands a touch with them.
