Flat Racing Monday 29th July

At last some reasonable AW racing!! Been too long!! 2.45 Wolverhampton Moss Hill is perhaps a worthy favourite but I would be happy taking the short price about him. He remains a maiden and often races very close to the pace and there is several like that in this race so unlikely to get a soft time. Drawn out in stall 8 not ideal neither around here. Kieltys Folly is notably consistent around here but is extremely hard to win with in recent times and will have to find more to turn around with Very First Blade. Spinning Ridge should atleast get the race run to suit but not been in much form in recent runs but is the sort to pop up at some point. Arabian Flight has been well backed and this yard often do well with its runners when theyre backed but he is hard to fancy, only one win to date from 34 runs and that came in a 5 runner claimer, potentially on a lenient mark on very best form but has plenty to prove. Blue Noodles is capable off this mark and the return to this surface is sure to spark some life back into him but he isn’t the only front runner in the field but is atleast drawn in 1. Odd Ball could be a bit of a dark horse he racked up a treble in spring last year before going off the boil, he has now dropped 3lb below his last winning mark. He will get a race run to suit but hasn’t been seen since November and record fresh not great and yard having a very disappointing season so far (yet to have a winner in 2013). For me Very First Blade looks a huge price, he has been in good form recently. He likes to track a strong pace and did well to finish 2nd last time out when he pulled hard over CD. He was easily the best of the prominent runners and that makes him still look potentially well treated in his current form. That was also his first bit of form over 7f. If he can settle better today he could well make a mockery of his mark. 2pt win Very First Blade 15/2 coral 3.15 Wolverhampton A race lacking much depth and most of these have a lot to prove for various reasons. Torero has atleast ran 2 resepctable back to back races recently but they were on turf and previous AW runs have lacked any spark whatsoever so has to prove handles AW surface. Waahej has been well backed in the overnight market but hard to understand why given to rotten efforts in sellers recently, only hope is his handicap mark having dropped to 6lb below his last winning mark which was over CD. Pure Mischief has breeding to be a classy horse but has failed to show anything in 3 maidens, now ends up in handicaps off a mark of 59 which could be interesting but its hard to back at 5/2 for me having seen nothing to date. Weybridge Light is the most interesting his RPR and Top Speed ratings are miles clear on most of these if he can get back to his best ways. The handicapper has taken a real chance with him dropping him 16lb below his last winning mark. His flat form is patchy since that last win but several good runs around this course. This trip is perhaps on the short side but its hard to believe he wont be close on this sort of mark and comes here fit from hurdling. 1pt e/w Weybridge Light 8/1 bet365 3.45 Wolverhampton Powerful Pierre is a 3 time CD winner latest coming in a selling handicap back in April, not been in much form since but has now dropped to that last winning mark with the blinkers back on today so not without a chance. Almaty Express is a 18 time course winner and he was winning for just the 3rd time on the turf last time out on a much lower mark, likely to find this tougher back on his AW mark under a penalty but always one to bear in mind around here. Winnie Perry showed his first bit of worthwhile form last time out on this surface at Lingfield and is he can build on that he would be interesting but his overall profile doesn’t offer much hope. Flow Chart was in good form earlier in the year over this CD but has since gone off the boil but has slipped to last winning mark and one to watch after a short break. Copper Leyf might be worth risking to build upon his better effort last time out, that was in first time tongue tie which is on again and worth noting his best form has come on the AW so far. Useful apprentice also takes off 3lb. 1pt e/w Copper Leyf 11/1 hills
