Flat Racing 3rd May

3.10 Lingfield Shirataki was never quite getting there when last seen and although that was a good run a further 2lb rise makes things tougher again and this mark just about looks his limit at his best. Kittens was largely respectable last year and managed 2 wins, slightly strange we didn’t see her over the winter given she was last seen winning at Wolves over this trip, up 4lb and clearly open to progression but needed the run last year so wary. Gabrials Hope is a tricky customer with just 1 win from 11 and that was last time out, he is up 4lb and will need to settle better than he did last time out. Hard to see past King Olav, he has taken a few runs to come to hand after a lengthy layoff but he had slipped a long way in the weights, he won a handicap off 91 at his best and beat Fox Hunt in a conditions race, was allowed to race off 64 last time out and cruised in hard on the bridle for most of the way, a 6lb penalty would look to be a drop in the ocean if he can repeat that sort of form again and not only that very useful Twiston-Davies apprentice takes off 5 of the 6lb and well drawn in stall 2 to get to the front again. 2pt win King Olav 7/4 3.50 Chepstow Good old veterans race so most of these don’t have much to hide from the handicapper. Most of these are making season reappearances and you would expect them to need the run. Although Dear Maurice has to have a chance on handicapping point of view given he was last seen winning off 66 now has to run off 69 on first run of the year, back in 2008 he was winning off 78. Engaged to run here in 8.10 last night so if he runs it hard to see him making it in this. Divine Cal isn’t the most reliable and the fact he has gone well fresh in the past he looks worth opposing despite running a good race after a 100 day break. Go Nani Go looks the safest option he has ran 2 brilliant runs after a lengthy break proving the comeback wasn’t just a fluke when only narrowly going down behind an unexposed sort who is going the right way on the AW. He is back up 3lb and although requires a career best off a 1lb higher mark than last winning mark he doesn’t look the most exposed sort and clearly in good heart. 2pt win Go Nani Go 5/2 bet365 4.30 Musselburgh Not a strong race and not one to spend much time on but I have tipped Brasingham Eric up on his first run of the season and I feel he is the one to stick with here. Handicapper giving him a good chance dropping him 3lb since that first run after 523 days off the track, he ran ok on reappearance looking badly in need of the run. Bettered that effort considerably last time out when less than 4lengths behind the winner. The step up trip should suit much better and he is now 2lb below his last winning mark and looks one to keep on side. 2pt win Brasingham Eric 11/2 bet365

Re: Flat Racing 3rd May *Apache Rising > Musselburgh 3:30 > WIN @ 18/1 VC BOG* If he can translate his all-weather form to the turf today, I reckon this horse looks overpriced. Hosed up at Southwell back in March, and followed it up easily again in April. Was not beat all that far last time out at Redcar when 5th of 8, may have needed that run on the turf, and is not without hope here in a smallish field, definitely looks a big price.
