Black Caviar and Atlantic Jewel nominees for the Victorian Racehorse of the year

Included in the five nominees for the Victorian Racehorse of the Year award are race stars Black Caviar and Atlantic Jewel. Nominees will be announced later this month at a ceremony in Melbourne. Judging will be based on the performanced on Victorian racetracks over the past season. Members of the media will not consider Atlantic Jewel's victory in Sydney and also Black caviar's win in Royal Ascot. Among the nominees are Australia’s best weight-for-age galloper Manighar and Group I VRC Oaks and Australian Guineas winner Mosheen.Fifth in the list is the French-trained stayer Dunaden who won in the Group III Geelong Cup (2400m). The Victorian Horse of the Year Award will be one of five presentations made at the 2012 Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Awards ceremony at the Crown Palladium on August 12. The said event will also include the naming of the Scobie Breasley and Tommy Corrigan Medal winners from the jockey ranks as well as the Fred Hoysted Medal, which will be awarded to the trainer of the year.
