Ben Melham suspended at Bendigo

Recommended Posts

After a careless riding charge at Bendigo on Sunday, top rider Ben Melham has been suspended by the Racing Victoria stewards. Melham has been charged after stewards found out that the jockey allowed his mount Esprit Rossa to shift out at the 400-metre mark, when insufficiently clear of abby's Emblem at the Ladies In Racing Magazine Class 1 Handicap (110m). Stewards took into account the jockey's guilty plea as well as Esprit Rossa's tendency to lay out when assessing the penalty. Ben Melham will be banned from riding for 12 meetings, that will start at midnight on Sunday and will end at midnight on August 3.
