ChrisB
Hi all, The motivation of a team is a very important factor. Normally, the two teams play with the same degrees of motivation, but there is factors that motivation is not at all the same between the two teams. - Does anyone know how to calculate the motivation of a team ? - Do you know Website with this type of information ? - What is your approach about the motivation ? Thank you very much for your contribution ;)
Jase82
Surely motivation and how it effects each team is subjective. I don't think you'll find a website giving that sort of information.
stho1978
Re: The motivation of a team Don't think there will be a website explaining how to calculate motivation unfortunately and doubt many people will know how to (although someone with a specialism in Sports Psychology might have an idea). What you could do, depending on time, is look back over past seasons for games where one, or both, teams have something to play for (eg end of season title decider) or local derbies. You could then somehow rate that against previous performances where there is nothing to play for etc and see if you can come up with some sort of magic number. Would be difficult though I would think but good luck.

It will be interesting to know the Asian stats when team A is more motivated than the team B

Thank you very much for your contribution ;) Motivation relative league positions - what each team is fighting for (promotion, avoid relegation, europe, be above sworn rivals, etc) the influence of the manager rivalry between the two clubs (not just that it could be a derby game, but perhaps the last time they played, a ref made a bad call and there was a huge brawl at the end of the game and both clubs hate each other and the other wants revenge) previous match (did a team just lose their last game in the last minute - are they out to right that perceived wrong?) finance (does a team need a win to hold off the administrators?) returning players (are minds going to be affected by former players/managers returning?) big club scalp (would it be considered an acheivement for one of the teams to defeat the other, while for the bigger team, is it more of a chore to be playing against the lesser lights) international selection (how many players are on the cusp of international selection - would a win ease them into the national squad, or will the pressure make them fold...) i'd write more, explain bullet points, but i fancy sleeping...my eyes are burning! early this year i made a formula to calculate motivation - comes in useful in laying low priced "favourites"
