Flat racing ~ Friday 13th July

1:20 Newmarket: Free Verse 1pt win 20/1 Ladbrokes & Perfect Step 1pt win 3/1 Paddy Power Looking through the form of Free Verse her best form seems to have been on a softish surace and she will get that today. Probably her best run was over a mile at Ascot where she led before dropping back in the final furlong. Today's distance looks about right too and she looks a touch overpriced. Perfect Step is very lightly raced and could go on to better things. Last time out she was only beaten just over three lengths by Sovereign Debt who ran in the Jersey at Royal Ascot next time out. With the trip and going to suit and Roger Varian in decent form, Perfect Step should go very close. 1:50 Newmarket: Peri Wango 1pt win 10/1 Bet365 & Balty Boys 1pt win 16/1 Ladbrokes Peri Wango by sprinter Australian sprinter Choisir could well leave his Royal Ascot running behind dropped back two furlongs. Having said that he went well for a long way in the Britannia before fading. That was Piri Wango's first run on turf and with Frankie Dettori again in the plate a good run looks likely and earlier form behind Ishvana at Dundalk gives some encouragement too. In this open handicap Balty Boys with Kieren Fallon up, could carry a big weight well. He has been running in Listed races and last season was fourth in the Group One Middle Park. This six furlongs looks about his best trip Charles Hills is in decent form and although the ground is a concern Balty Boys looks capable of doing himself justice at a decent price. 2:35 York: Gracia Directa 1pt win 25/1 Stan James & Sentrail 1pt win 6/4 Bet365 Its interesting that connections of Gracia Directa have travelled over for this. German runners have been doing well outside of their native country and this filly looks to be on the up and the sort it can pay to follow. Hard to assess the form, yet at a big price worth an interest. Sentrail's form looks rock solid and even this short price looks fair. Sentrail put up a fine performance at Royal Ascot and that effort behind Ishvana reads well. 3:00 Newmarket: Alanza 1pt e/w 16/1 Skybet (1/4 123) When master Irish trainer John Oxx brings one over it usually pays to take notice. While Golden Lilac will be hard to beat, Alanza is another from HH The Aga Khan's magnificent breeding operation and she looks to be improving. Last year Alanza got better as the season progressed and now aged four she should have matured a little more and hopefully she can still improve on the track. Could well make the journey over pay.

Re: Flat racing ~ Friday 13th July Newmarket 3.00pm Golden Lilac looks a worthy favourite but I have no interest at the odds. I feel Joviality and Alanza will be just short of Group 1 class and think Giofra, Chachamaidee and Elusive Kate could all prove to be value alternatives. Slight concerns over fitness and ground for Elusive Kate but it's within 4lb of the favourite and is a Group 1 winner so 16's looks quite big if it actually runs this time, pulled out at Ascot due to soft ground. 2pts EW – Elusive Kate 16-1 Bet365 (BOG) ¼ odds first 3 1pt EW – Giofra 9-1 Bet365 (BOG) ¼ odds first 3 Full race preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/newmarket-betting--in-form-dettori-and-gosden-can-team-up-with-elusive-kate-for-a-falmouth-win
