Flat Racing 16th March

4.25 Lingfield Not the greatest looking card in the world and several of these having something to prove and none look particularly well handicapped. Polar Auroras is still a maiden, has gone a little closer recently but likely to find a few finishing better over this shorter trip and probably only playing for place money again. Isdaal was another to finish runner up last time out but is still a maiden, she finished with some effect that day but again that was over 2f further and will need a strong pace to be seen to best effect over this trip. Bold Ring goes well round here and made a good start to this AW campaign with 2 wins, slipping back down the handicap after some disappointments but would still liked to have seen more and yet to win over this trip. Im surprised to see National Hope so short in the betting, probably the Baker/Fallon partnership. She is probably the least exposed in the lineup but not totally convinced she sees this trip out having shaped as a non stayer at 3 tries at this trip, wins have come over 6f and 7f and still 4lb higher for a weak folkestone win in the summer and will need to be fully tuned up for a yard that are going ok but struggling to get a winner recently. Qeethara has had a bit of a purple patch for a yard that has returned to form after an awful spell with a virus in the yard, she hasnt won off a mark this high before and perhaps handicapper has her again for now and always been better at Kempton although yet to race here. Methayel is of interest from a yard that had a very quiet season last year clearly something wasnt right in the yard but she did buck that trend when winning 2 mile handicaps at Brighton shaped reasonably well on all weather debut when last seen off a 4lb higher mark, could be better suited to this downhill finish around here and may just have a little more to give yet for yard who have had a winner recently on the back of a break so should go well. From a handicapping point of view Abigails Angel doesnt look particularly well treated infact she is 3lb worse off were she to run tomorrow under her penalty today but she is in top form which counts for a lot on the A/W especially in a field like this and that may just edge this with useful apprentice used to take off a 5lb which makes this look even easier. 2pt win Abigails Dream 6/1 vc 1pt win Methayel 7/1 bet365 8.20 Wolverhampton Dreadfully awful race so many of these are out of form. Several of these like to be up with the pace and likely to be run at a good pace. Nacho Libre has been well backed on couple of starts this winter and does tend to be used to land gambles and not at best when last seen a month ago. Monsieur Pontaven is becoming expensive to follow he is a capable sort but very inconsistent and just looks one to avoid on latest run after a decent run previously. San Jose City is a previous useful handicapper but badly gone wrong way since, attracted plenty of money when last seen but finished last something clearly not right and been off track since and handicapper taking a real chance dropping him a further 6lb but record fresh patchy and probably best watched. The Bay Bandit looks a handicap good thing. Clearly not been easy to train but has now twice ran solid races over CD including last time out when getting no run what so ever. Travelled so strongly throughout well out the back before finding no room what so ever to get through but when a gap sort of appeared he bolted through but was never going to get there. Yard in good form recently and looks sure to go well off same mark. 4pt win The Bay Bandit 6/4 vc (advised on twitter this morning) best priced 5/4 now

Won once and placed (2nd) once from the last six starts. Raced twice at Southwell in that period for a 10th of 13 and 5th of 12. The other four was here for 1st, 7th, 2nd, and 6th. The yard is in good form with trainer Robin Bastiman having a winner yesterday. Jockey Lee Newman was on board that runner and booked for the selection tonight.
