[/TABLE] Only 6 jockeys managed to get over 100 winners. Hanagan was riding day and night all over the country but now replaces Hills and can be expected to be based down south a lot more and won't be up here riding Fahey's horses as much which could have a significant impact on his totals. On the flip side of that he is still expected to ride Fahey's horses when possible so having 2 decent yards supporting him could be a plus. Ryan Moore is back from injury and fighting fit but seems to have struck up a good relationship with Aidan O'Brien and is likely to spend a lot of Sundays in Ireland or abroad and Stoute has been poor by his own excellent standards. Hughes did well again last season and was only 35 winners behind Hanagan from around 400 less rides, also likely to spend several weekends in France/Germany etc riding for Hannon and likely to be heading off to the Breeders Cup again at a crucial time. De Sousa gets a job with Godolphin and although he is likely to be top dog in a few years will this season be all about understanding how Godolphin operate and playing 2nd fiddle to Dettori. He is also likely to get a lot of rides for the big trainers when he is not booked for Godolphin and he was only 4 winners behind Hanagan from over 100 rides less. In terms of winning the jockeys championship would you say the move to Godolphin was positive or negative? Kieren Fallon was back to his best last season but is always clouded with doubt and could just lose it and get banned at any time, the stuff with Milckzarek has done him no favours either and I'm sure there will be many keen eyes on him and not just from the punters. You have to feel that if he is in with any chance of the championship he'll put in the hours and the travelling to win that title. Fanning only managed 57 winners last season but with SDS moving on he should be getting better rides for Mark Johnston now and is a very underrated jockey, certainly knows his stuff on the all weather too. The only other 2 to break 100 winners were Spencer and Buick and both are 16-1 with a number of bookies while Spencer is 33's with Boylesports. He is still freelance and gets a lot of decent rides for a lot of different trainers but lacks the backing of a stable as 1st choice jockey. Buick is excellent in the saddle and could really make his mark this year if he is also given good rides for plenty of stables and has Gosden's backing as 1st choice there. Odds: Richard Hughes - 4/1 Ryan Moore - 4/1 Kieren Fallon 5/1 SDS - 5/1 Paul Hanagan - 7/1 (Boylesports stand out price) Coral only go 4-1 Joe Fanning - 16/1 William Buick - 16/1 Jamie Spencer - 33/1 Other prices available via odds comparison sites. At this stage who would you fancy to win the title, who do you think is the value bet and why?

Re: Flat Jockeys Championship 2012 - Who will be top jockey? Fanning's reputation might just propel him into the spotlight a bit more this year - could be the SDS of this season? Like you say, should get plenty for Johnston, and ought to pick up some other decent rides too. Being so good on the all-weather, and one of the more likely jockeys to be travelling all over, night and day, might just be a decent bet at 16s.
