Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event Heart says any place, anytime, anywhere - I'd do my best to be there. Head says logistically probably best somewhere in the midlands to be fair to everyone.

  • I was impressed with GCasino (Coventry) not only during last years PLWSOP but also the GUKPT & Goliath festival weeks. Strong contender imo with good facilities, friendly helpful staff, easy parking & cheap hotels nearby etc.
  • DTD Nottingham is always a fantastic venue and definately worth considering.
  • Birmingham, Derby, Stoke even? No personal experience of casinos though.
  • Link in with a footie match (GCasino-Coventry FC, Genting sponsor Villa etc) or horse race meeting if sufficient demand?

Personally happy to travel further (Newcastle, Dublin, Europe somewhere?) but cost a big factor. Corporate deal with Easyjet & a Budget hotel chain an option? Flexible on when, will fit in with others, but try to avoid Olympics, Queen Jubilee etc due to potential travel delays.

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event Broadway casino birmingham, travelodge right outside and £15 rooms if you book early, bowling alley opposite for WSOPL bowling comp, nice and central for everyone in uk. I used to arrange 3 or 4 meet ups a year for another forum for 4 years, Broadway was by far the most liked in my experience :)

Stab city, errm Star City in Brum have also run some very good days in my experience but accommodation isn't as handy as Broadway. Derby casino a good idea too, mainly cause I could get the mrs to drive me in :-)

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event Very Date dependant for me, if I can get Saturday off (if it's on a Saturday) - anywhere in UK is fine. A couple of people have mentioned Manchester (which would be selfishly fantastic for me) And there is a new G Casino just opened last week in Didsbury, South Manchester, haven't seen what it's like yet though. Like Bart said, Coventry was a great Casino and pretty central, but don't mind going down to 'that' London if I can definitely make it, or even up to Aspers, Geordieland. Good luck coming up with somewhere Graeme :ok

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event Organisers will have the actual numbers, but I'm fairly sure that, despite it's central location, Coventry in the early autumn got substantially less than Newcastle in the throes of winter. Comments from others about rewarding sites who have supported us already with online support are also important. In terms of poker room, DTD would be my personal preference, but happy to go wherever we get the best turnout and craic.

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event I'd vote for Birmingham - Broadway Casino or Genting at Star City DTD in Nottingham Also Leeds has been mentioned, Gala and Alea Casino we're very good. Food at the Alea wasn't great from last experience but nice venue and there are other nice eating places and places to stay nearby.

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event A midlands location would be good for me and never had a bad experience and DTD or Broadway Casino( more my prefered choice) alternatively London in ideal for me and Fox Poker Club has always been a friendly place to relax and enjoy a good game

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event I went to DTD for the first one and it was an incredible day. For different reasons, I couldnt make the last two, but I want to make this one if feasible. I'll go for DTD but anything in the Midlands is preferable geographically.

Re: PLWSOP 2012 - Where and When should we host the event Gala at Leeds is next door to Premier Inn and opposite Etap and Holiday Inn Express so would be great for accommodation and is close to the Motorway network for access from elsewhere. Not been myself, but I know quite a lot of PLers have been to the monthly games there and could vouch for what the poker room is like.

Poker room itself has about 20 tables, some of which are on a raised area with a rail around it and some in a small room to the side of it (not sure how many tables are in these areas though, 2 or 3 each at a guess). Not sure how busy regular Saturdays are, but on the last Saturday of the month it's packed.
