3 Brief selections for todays racing at Southwell 1.50 Southwell I personally dont like Il Battista although won well last time out has never looked the easiest in a finish and if this came to a battle you would have to wonder if he would battle it out. JR Hartley has ran his best races here but whether he has much in hand of the handicapper is the question for him. Maverick will have to be fully fit for this despite only going up 1lb for last win around Wolves over this trip. Fibresand debut. Tamareen won a race that rather fell apart in the finish a 4lb rise doesnt look excessive but is another making fibresand debut. Global Village looks hard to beat despite only winning by a neck officially that only tells half the story he was ultimately very comfortably in winning that and a 5lb rise probably isnt as excessive as it looks and still doesnt look on a bad mark and ability to handles this surface is a positive in this field. 2pt win Global Village 5/2 lads 2.55 Southwell Elhamri has been found wanting off his revised mark since winning in November and its a long while since he has won off a mark this high. Cyflymder is interesting dropped back to 6f today, he has been running into some sort of form recently over this course and is interesting dropped back to 6f with cheekpieces fitted for the first time he is dangerously well handicapped on 3yr old form and cannot be discounted at this low level. That said Katys Secret is a credit to connections she hasnt run a bad race since the summer the only blip was when she was showing up well until getting badly hampered, she won a CD claimer last time out beating Stevie Gee who has since won in emphatic style at Lingfield in a seller and on that form she remains well treated and could clearly have more to offer over a CD she is 2 from 2. 2pt win Katys Secret 11/2 bet365 1pt win Cyflymder 9/1 bet365 3.30 Southwell Dashing Eddie is worth a second chance on his polytrack form having improved for the fitting of cheekpieces having won in November off a mark of 51 and a respectable 2nd off 54 before making fibresand debut in a classified event 2 weeks ago, completely fluffed the start and did well too get as close as he did and well worth another try back in handicap company with so few miles on the clock and with the Ryan yard going well and having a winner here yesterday. 2pt win Dashing Eddie 5/1 bet365

Re: Flat Racing 2nd Jan 2.55 Southwell This is a competitive 6f sprint with what looks to have plenty of pace. There are several runners in this field that like to lead or be up with the pace which should ensure a good pace. There are also several here that are course specialists of which I think is important around this track. Only going to go through a few as it’s a pretty big field but there are definitely some very interesting runners lining up here. Firstly El Dececy must have a chance here after a gallant 2nd behind the bag in form Global Village over CD last time out. This horse was sent off at massive odds but fared best of those racing prominently and almost won the race. This effort can probably slightly upgraded given how well he battled from the front, considering everything around him at the finish had come from behind. He should definitely be in the shake-up here but there are many more likely challengers for the lead in this race. Greenhead High also likes to front run but comes from a stable that must always be feared at this track. He has been unlucky in his last 2 starts over CD but may just find 1 or 2 too good again. Mazovian is capable of going well here and seems to like the surface and Elhamri also loves it around here. He is entitled to run after a good effort last time out. Spitfire was one of the closers in that race won by El Dececy but he looks a tough ride but is consistent so could sneak a place. The horse that interests me the most is Katy’s Secret who was a winner over CD last time out. This horse now has a record of 2-2 over CD but her performance last time out was quite impressive. That race she won was only a claimer but it was a strong race for the grade. She was the lowest rated in that so had the least weight to carry. Today is the complete opposite but even though she is the top weight, she should go well. She is drawn in stall 4 which will enable her to race as she did last time out, just sitting off the pace. She travelled strongly that day and picked up very well to win cosily. I expect pretty much the same today. Ryan Powell who rode her last time out claims 5lbs and is in good form at the moment. She looks to have a massive chance of enhancing her already good record at the track. Hopefully she can make it 3 from 3. Bets Katy’s Secret 2.5pts EW @ 11/2 Bet365
