ofcourseitwas
Hi all, I remember reading (somewhere on this forum) that if Team A beats Team B 4 to 1 shots on target, it carries a higher significance than if they had beaten them 10 to 7 shots on target. Is there a specific or generally accepted formula that can measure this absolutely? I'm hoping for something where I can just plug the numbers in and get a consistent result. Trying to develop an excel system, so any help would be appreciated!
Mulkis
Re: How to Weight Superiority Consider P =A/SUM(A+B). When A=4,B=1 P=0.80 When A=10,B=7 P=0.59 So yes, 4-1 is more significant than 10-7.
Donkson
Re: How to Weight Superiority That's not what he was asking (although yes that explains it), if you want to measure it absolutely, you'll have to go back and do some analysis of the data yourself. I would doubt anyone has done the work and published it anywhere. All I can help you with is that you can find those numbers in the result spreadsheets at http://www.football-data.co.uk/

Donkson, can you explain why you think I shouldn't use his formula?
