ITIN number for Vegas

Anyone know the easiest way to obtain a ITIN number for trip to Vegas? Other half had a nightmare sorting his out last year while out there, wondered if mine can be sorted here before we go? Read somewhere that if you tell the IRS it's required for exemption from withholdings tax for possible winnings, they will not issue you with one as its not a valid reason :(

Re: ITIN number for Vegas I got one when i was there, but only after winning a tournament . Also, casinos vary. some won't take the tax anyway but I won mine at the Mirage, who are quite strict about these things. I had to come back the next day with my passport and the cardroom manager filled in an ITIN form for me. Then i got my winnings. It was a bit weird coming back to England and getting a letter from the US government issuing me with a tax number. Check the IRS' website under tax waivers, there's plenty of information.
