Flat Racing; Friday 20th May

16:30 Yarmouth George Margarson is a top trainer, and I think he’ll be able to get a tune out of Excellent Aim, who is well handicapped on a couple of his runs in maiden company and after falling apart towards the end of last season, I’m expecting a better run today. He’s ran 6 times and wasn’t disgraced in his first two when with Jane Chapple-Hyam, finishing close up to a now 102 rated animal and then to one who is now rated 75. He showed potential and should have turned into a decent animal. However, he really struggled in Handicap Company, even off a mark of 68, running zero races of any note, and really struggling to get going in any of them. So, why do I fancy him for today’s race? He’s switched to George Margarson, who’s a top trainer and does very well with these types. He doesn’t have many horses, so he must see something in him to take him on. He’s had a wind operation, which is a procedure that brings about improvement in most horses, and I’m expecting it will with this one. He being gelded will also bring about some sort of improvement, and help him to focus on the job in hand. Daryl Holland taking the ride is quite interesting, as he’s only ridden for this trainer twice. The trainer is generally in good form, with nearly all of his runners running well. It’s a weak race, and I expect he’ll show up well today. Whether he’s fit enough to win is another question, as it’s his first run since October, but this trainer has stated on his website he expects a big race, and is “working well”. With this, I’m willing to bet a solid stake on him running well Excellent Aim; 1.5pts EW @ 20/1 Boylesports (BOG)

Re: Flat Racing; Friday 20th May 16:00 Haydock Plenty of improvers in a field of lightly raced types and it's been hard to rule a lot of these out. Richard Fahey's Cosmic Moon is the one that catches my eye the most in this class 4 handicap for 3 year olds. She made her debut in August last year when she ran out a half length winner at Chester over 7 furlongs. The form of this race has been boosted with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place all winning since. The form of the 3rd placed finisher Night Carnation has been a particular highlight having won three times since and placing in a listed contest. Both his runs as a three year old has resulted in wins, one in a handicap race off a mark of 99 and another at York last week in a conditions stakes race and is now rated 109. Cosmic Moon has ran twice in handicap company so far off marks of 75 and although well beaten on both occasions she did slip in her latest effort when making late headway which ruled out any chances. Her win on debut last year shows she goes well fresh and I think she is overpriced currently and I wouldn't be surprised if she went off a fair bit shorter tomorrow. The mile trip should suit based on pedigree and she could be very well in off a mark of 73 today. 1pt E/W Cosmic Moon @ 10/1 (Bet365 - BOG)
