LOCKINGE STAKES TRENDS 2011 The Totesport.com Lockinge Stakes is the big race on Saturday 14th May, a group 1 run over a mile at Newbury. In recent years the bigger horse racing operations have done very well in this race with Cheveley Park Stud and Godolphin accounting for 6 of the last 12 winners. Below we take a look at the trends for the past 10 years: Age (Win-Place-Runners) 4yo: 7-12-49 5yo: 2-4-25 6yo: 1-1-12 7yo+: 0-1-8 4yos record of 7-12-49 compares well against all horses aged 5+: 3-6-45. The 3 winners aged 5+ were all group 1 winners. Recent/Past Form 10 of 10 winners won over a mile or further 8 of 10 winners had won a group 1 or 2 (both exceptions had finished 2nd in a Group 1 or 2) 6 of 10 winners had won a group 1 (2 of 4 exceptions had been placed in multiple group 1's) 6 of 10 winners were having their first run of the season (2 of 4 exceptions had their first run of the season at the Dubai Spring Carnival and other 2 ran in Sandown Bet365 Mile) 9 of 10 winners were having their first run in the race 8 of 10 winners were having their first course start (other 2 had won here) 10 of 10 winners were officially rated 113 or higher Other Races Bet365 Mile winner (Dick Turpin): 5536541 (1-1-7) Eclipse winner (Twice Over): 1 (1-0-1) Joel Stakes winner (Cityscape): 61 (1-0-2) Prix Jean Prat winner (Dick Turpin): 33 (0-2-2) Premio Ribot winner (Worthadd): 2 (0-1-1) Criterion Stakes winner (Premio Loco): 65 (0-0-2) Summer Mile Stakes winner (Premio Loco): 784 (0-0-3) Hungerford Stakes winner (Shakespearean): 6750 (0-0-4) 4 of 10 winners ran in previous season's QEII Stakes, finishing 4221 3 of 10 winners ran in previous season's St James Palace, finishing 366 2 of 10 winners ran in the Bet365 Mile last time, finishing 31 2 of 10 winners ran in previous season's Sussex Stakes, finishing 32 2 of 10 winners ran in previous season's Eclipse Stakes, finishing 18 2 of 10 winners ran in previous year's French 2000 Guineas, finishing 52 2 of 10 winners ran in previous season's Champion Stakes, finishing 54 2 of 10 winners ran in previous season's Irish Champion Stakes, finishing 25 Trainers Michael Stoute (3-0-10) has trained the winner 3 times in the past 10 years but has no runner in this season’s race. Saeed Bin Suroor (1-3-9) has saddled 1 winner and 3 placed runners in the past decade, including the winner in 2008 and the runner-up in 2009. He did not have runner in the race last year. Richard Hannon (1-1-9) won the race last year with Paco Boy, while Aidan O’Brien (1-0-5) is the only other trainer with an entry to have won the race once since 2001. Henry Cecil (0-3-3) has saddled 3 runners in the past decade, 2nd in 2008 and 3rd in 2009 & 2010. Price 10 of 10 winners were priced 9/1 or below and came from the first 4 in the betting. Not a race to be looking for a big outsider with the last 10 winners going off at single figure odds. Favourites (5-1-10) have won 5 of the last 10, giving a level stakes profit of 5.47. Summary: Based on the trends from the past 10 years you are looking for a horse: · Aged 4 (or group 1 winner aged 5+) · Won over at least a mile · Won a group 1 or 2 · Having first run this year or ran in Dubai or Bet365 Mile last time · Finished in first 4 in last season’s QEII · Officially rated 113 or higher · From the first 4 in the betting · Trained by Saeed Bin Suroor or Henry Cecil
