Best Bet Of The Day - Thurs 7th April

4.15 Aintree Woolcombe Folly's inclusion forces several of these to race from out of the handicap but I personally feel as though the horse is running off an inflated mark - something Paul Nicholls perhaps agress with since Ruby jumps ship to ride Tchico Polos and 5 lb claimer Ryan Mahon is called upon to do the steering on the top weight. Osieau de Nuit was a shock winner at Cheltenham and you can't put maximum faith in him to follow up and on his handicap debut in this sphere, MAMLOOK is a confident choice. David Pipe actually named this as his best chance of the week at Aintree and he looks to have bet let in off a fair mark. A winner off 139 over hurdles and rated 143 in that sphere, he is rated 135 today and looks thrown in. Officially, he races from 6lb out the weights but a useful claimer takes off 5lb to negate most of that and, as mentioned above, I think the top-weight is flattered by his rating anyway. Really sweet on the chances of this one who is versatile, has made a pleasing start to his chasing career, and looks to have been laid out for a valuable handicap like this. 7/1 Betfred, 1 pt win

Re: best bet of the day - thurs 7th april 3:40 Aintree: Herons Well 1pt win 14/1 Victor Chandler Herons Well has age on his side and he could still be improving. He was going quite well at Cheltenham and his prominent racing style should help keep him out of trouble over these fences. The drop back in trip should be in Heron Well's favour too as he has been tying up over further. Looking back through Heron Well's outings, his best effort was in May 2010 in a handicap behind King Troy. That form looks decent as King Troy went on to be placed in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen. It then looks as though Herons Well was campaigned with the two foxhunters at Cheltenham & Aintree in mind. He had three prep races in February to bring him to a peak. It didn't work out at Cheltenham, there may be compensation here.
