What hands are tied?

Hoping to have a few friendly games of poker of the xmas period, but I'm abit unsure when hands are tied. Hopefully someone can help us avoid a big punch up:D (1) 2 pair Now I know the top pair wins and if the top pair's are the same it goes on the second pair. But what if you both have the same 2 pairs? eg, player one has A7, player 2 has A5 and the board cards are AK992. Does player 1's 7 kicker beat player 2's 5 kicker? or is the hand tied and the pot split? (2) 3 of a kind If the board cards are A558J, and player 1 has 54 and player 2 has 59. Does player 2 beat player 1 or do they split the pot? (3) Flush I know that an Ace high flush beats any another flush, but what if the Ace is on the board and player one has say 7J of clubs and player two has 59 of clubs. Now both players have an Ace high flush, so I thought that would be a tied hand and split pot. But I read somewhere else that player one would win because his J beat player two's 9?

Re: What hands are tied? Hi Chala, Best way to know if kickers are an issue is to "make the best 5 card hand" out of all available cards. 1) This would be split as the King is the kicker. 2) Split again - the Jack being the key card 3) The Jack Seven would win, because his "best 5 cards" are higher than the other players. Hope this helps. J.
