When is the Rake too much ?

Just wanted your thoughts on this. I dont have many local games near me but found a very good value game in a snooker club which is only about 20 mins away. Generally I have been beating the cash game and doing well but the rake is doing my head in. They take 5% which is not too bad But the problem I have is that is capped at a massive £15. :wall It is only a small game £1 £1 NL Holdem or Pot Limit Omaha. Most people sit down with about £100 some with less. The rake is taking at least £500 a night from this one table. I cant see how the game can last long term or even if it is beatable long term even with really bad players in it. What is the max rake you would pay to play in a game and still see it as reasonable ?

Re: When is the Rake too much ? suprised no responce to this as I can see this is critical to why there are not more live cash pros in the UK. Tried another club tonight 5% rake upto £25 a hand OMG really £25 a hand thats mental. In Vegas I was paying $3 to $4 per pot and free drinks. Thats why they have pros playing in their card rooms as they can still make a living and the card room still makes a very nice profit. I'm really not suprised that the clubs around here have only 1 cash table running. Around here u have to pay for any drinks and get bent over by the rake.:spank Makes you want to stick to only playing their tournies. Anyway gripe over.... :\

Re: When is the Rake too much ? I think what Belgareth is saying is that online cash poker is favoured over live cash poker due to live poker rooms taking a larger amount of rake. With online being a max of $3 regardless of how big the pot is over $30 where as live some places seem to be taking advantage of the players, sometimes taking a big £25 out of a pot of £500 when you might have put half of that money in there anyway. $3 or £25???? I know which i prefer.... No wonder the live poker rooms are failing. " You can shear a sheep many times, but you can only kill it once "

Re: When is the Rake too much ? Once saw an online rake chart on this site but can't find it now - can anyone help?

Re: When is the Rake too much ? I've not played Live cash poker before but was considering it at our local Grovesnor. I have no idea what the rake and cap is but I will certainly find out but I was wondering about tipping the dealer. Should you do it? How much should it be? It just seems to me that the rake is already steep if you start giving your hard earnt wins away as well it becomes almost unbeatable.

Re: When is the Rake too much ? Surprised no one has asked the question "is it illegal for the snooker club to be taking rake?" The answer to that would be yes, unless they have a full casino license, mention it in passing and see what they say, get them to lower their charges!

it was my understanding that cash games were only allowed in casinos pub games were capped at a max of £5 per head with a max £100 pot think this increases in clubs to a £10 max per head this is just what ive heard others who seem to know what they were on about discussing - never bothered to actually check the rules fot myself
