"Cheltenham Festival winning trainer Howard Johnson could face a sensational ban from the sport after he raced a horse which had undergone an operation to 'de-nerve' one of its legs." A neurectomy is banned in racing on both welfare grounds and because it could compromise a jockey's safety as his mount continues to gallop through pain normally telling it to stop. The horse in question was Striking Article, sadly put down after pulling up lame on the 7th Feb at Musselburgh. He could face a fine of £3000, or a ban of up to a year.
