Sports Personality of the Year 2010

A big night tonight, it's the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year 2010 and it promises to be a cracking night. For once, AP McCoy has been recognised and is long odds on to prevail. I, for one, think he will, mainly due to that elusive Grand National win he notched up back in April; fully deserved it will be too but on achievements over a longer periond of time than just 2010. This leaves us limited betting opportunities but the one market I'm keen to take on is the winner w/o McCoy. Straight away, I'll put a line through Mark Cavendish, David Haye and Graeme Swann, none of which have done anywhere near enough to be standing on the podium. Initially, I liked the chances of young Tom Daley but the market has been speaking volumes against him so, whilst he's a massive price, I'll put a line through him. Phil Taylor's done nothing to enhance his chances with a pretty rotten last 6 months; surely, he's priced up on what's he achieved in the last 15 years in the sport whilst Jess Ennis is also dismissed; if she couldn't win it last year on her achievements, then there's no chance of turning the tables this time around. I'm left with 3; another girl to be passed over is Amy Williams, an excellent year for her but winter sports is hardly the most popular and it's difficult to see enough votes for her. Lee Westwood is the next to go despite making his way to number 1 in the world, the votes of any golf fans will surely go to my selection, Graeme McDowell, favourite in this market. GMac became Europe's first US Open winner for 40 years in June, an amazing achievement in itself but has since enhanced his profile by sinking the putt that won us the Ryder Cup. A victory against the US is enough to earn him plenty of votes and he's only gone and kept himself in the limelight by recording an amazing win in the Chevron World Challenge, overturning a deficit in the final round with Tiger. A brilliant year by anyone's standards, it's hard to imagine what more he could have done. A likeable chap into the bargain, I'll take GMac here at a shade of odds against.
