Re: Tennis, Week 7 strange situation in Brazil. Schwank plays Portas for the 2nd time in 2 days. Schwank won yesterday in qualifying when Portas retired 6-1 4-2 down. Portas then got into the main draw as a lucky loser so they play again today in the first round proper. Schwank is 1.72 on betfair which seems a good price considering he hammered the same guy yesterday.

Re: Tennis, Week 7 Came to the thread to tip Alberto Martin but see that Donald got there before me. Can't add much to his write-up except to say that he took a set off Rafael Nadal in the 2005 final. The price is crazy. Definite value. 2.84 at betfair is the best I can get. Still a great price imo. Just noticed that he's shortening steadily. Volandri should be banker to beat Kuerten. The former world number 1 has been plagued by injuries and hasn't won a match in a year and a half. 1.28 is a decent price.

Re: Tennis, Week 6 oh and massive thanks to dj fish for the info on Ancic yesterday. You saved me some money there.

Re: Tennis, Week 6 The German doubles team (Kohlmann/Waske) looks overpriced to me against a Croatia team that will include either a clearly under the weather Ancic or a much lower standard replacement. They played 4 matches at the World Team Cup together last year and looked a really good partnership winning all 4 matches they played (including a win over the Croat pair of Ljubicic/Karlovic). They also won the tournament in Zagreb last week only dropping 1 set along the way. They've only played once together in Davis Cup where they trounced a a copletely unknown Thai pair. With home advantage they're worth a punt at 2.8 with Pinnacle. That's a decent value price even against a fully fit first choice Croatian pair and absolutely massive if Ancic is rested.

Re: Tennis, Week 6 he's in hospital, probably with a surgeon's scalpel in his knee as we speak so forget about it. Nadal is also injured and has withdrawn from his match against Chiudinelli. He's replaced by Verdasco.

Re: Tennis, Week 6 wawrinka needs surgery and could be out for 3 months from what I've read. Voltchkov v Soderling I've thought about this one so much that I have to play it now. Voltchkov has an excellent Davis Cup record at home on the lightning fast surface there that is regarded as quite unique. He beat Robredo and Ferrer in straight sets last year. Soderling is a talented player but he's very poor under pressure and has a terrible career record in best of 5 sets matches. Sweden will have a nice run of home draws if they can get through this tie so expectation levels should be very high within the camp. That just means more pressure for Soderling. Despite this Soderling is clearly the much better player at the moment and the fast indoor surface should really suit his game. But Davis Cup can throw up some funny results so he's worth fading for small stakes. Selection: LAY Soderling - 1.17 at betfair 2pt liability. I'm very tempted by Ancic over Haas but haven't made my mind up on that one yet.

Re: Cricket: Commonwealth Bank ODI Series & Twenty20 International anyone know where I can get updated individual tables for the series? most series runs, most wickets etc...

Re: Tennis, Week 5 Russell's schedule would be a concern for me. He plays a challenger final in Hawaii today. That's a 4000 mile flight to Florida so he'll have very little time to recover before the match. It's enough to make me steer clear at that price although he is undoubtedly in great form and a class above his opponent.

Re: Tennis, Womans Australian Open 2007 - Women good call. ugly though? you must be nuts.

Re: Tennis, Womans Australian Open 2007 - Women because of her recent absence I think people forget what a massive mental hold Serena has over her rivals as a 7 time grand slam champion. I'm also favouring Sharapova over Clijsters due to mental issues. Clijsters was incredibly nervous against Hingis and played probably the most horrible match I've ever seen by a winning player with 63 unforced errors. Mostly really horrible ones too. The type that miss by 5 yards. It's her last ever Australian Open and I think the pressure of wanting to go out on a high is really getting to her. Sharapova will be able to take advantage in a way that Hingis wasn't.

Re: Tennis, Womans Australian Open 2007 - Women She won her last match pretty easily and she's had a day's rest since then. The weather forecasts I've read suggest it's not going to be very hot in Melbourne this week either. Around 24C so heat shouldn't really be a major issue. Can't really offer any advice apart from that. I've been impressed by Serena so far and expect her to win but don't really follow the women's game and know next to nothing about Peer. I'll probably take Serena in a small stakes double(with Vaidisova and/or Roddick perhaps) if I end up watching it just for an interest. If not, I'll leave it alone.

Re: Tennis, Mens Australian Open 2007 - Men yeah, impressive stuff from Gonzo. wish I'd had more faith and gone for decent sized stakes. oh well, can't complain about a nicely priced winner.
-
Re: Tennis, Mens Australian Open 2007 - Men Blake didn't convince me at all against Ginepri. If Ginepri had converted one of several set points in the first set it could have been a different match. Gonzo on the other hand was awesome against Hewitt and produced probably the most impressive winner/unforced error stats in the first 2 sets that I have ever seen (66:15 for the entire match. Just 1 ue in each of the first 2 sets). He has also won his last 3 meetings with Blake. Neither player has great grand slam pedigree which is another reason I'd rate it very close to 50:50. Gonzo is definite value at 2.86.

Re: Tennis, Mens Australian Open 2007 - Men I'm expecting a comfortable win for Nadal. It's a bad match up for Murray. Unless he plays a much more attacking game than he usually does he has no chance because he can't outlast Nadal in long baseline exchanges. He'll have to serve better than he's ever done as well.

Re: Tennis, Mens Australian Open 2007 - Men 500k traded on betfair on Baggy at 1.10 and less when Monfils had his injury timeout. Ouch.
-
Re: Tennis, Mens Australian Open 2007 - Men I agree Melzer is worth a bet here. Robredo has some shocking results against big-serving left handers recently including defeats to Rusedski and Melzer (both on clay) and Wayne Arthurs last season. I'll only go small stakes on it though due to his recent illness and the fact that he's a complete nutcase.

Re: Tennis - A trip to a Grand Slam Good luck with this DD. Be careful about editing posts after the event though. You leave yourself open to accusations of cheating. Better off just using a new post for the result.

Re: Tennis, Week 7
yeah I'm going to give it a miss as well. Portas might have known about a couple of other players withdrawing and that he was guaranteed a place in the first round even if he lost. The market has been jumping all over the place on betfair. I screwed myself backing that clown Volandri who was either injured or partying the night before judging by the way his price drifted so I'm not in the mood to risk anything else on a first round match in a Mickey Mouse event.
