  1. Re: Tennis,Amelia Island (WTA) How about adding Davis Cup to the thread title? Might as well keep all the tennis in one thread. One price that has caught my eye is Tommy Haas at 1.33 to beat Kristof Vliegen. That looks a definite lay to me. Haas has been pathetic on clay for the last year or so losing to guys like Udomchoke, Karlovic and Soderling all of whom are worse than Vliegen on the surface. Vliegen also had a morale boosting 5 set win over Lleyton Hewitt and an easy straight sets win over Guccione in his last Davis Cup outing (also on clay in Belgium). He's not the sort of guy you want to trust with full stakes and he's admittedly in very poor form but with home advantage against an inconsistent opponent he represents definite value at these prices.

  2. Re: Tennis Betting from PlopPlop You're missing Pinnacle. Absolutely essential that you have an account there imo. Not including the exchanges, they consistently have the best prices on tennis as far as I can see. Stan James is also good because they price up matches earlier than anyone else and they're prone to the occasional blunder.

  3. Re: The Tenner Tennis Challenge time for another. Bet 6: Gonzalez v Dancevic £10 - 1.21 at betfair Gonzalez is well rested for this event and if he can get anywhere near the form he showed at the Australian Open this should be an easy win over an opponent who was unconvincing in the last round.

  4. Re: The tennis injury rule. The best approach is to have an account with several different bookies so that you can exploit the different rules to your advantage. Sometimes it's obvious that a particular player is carrying an injury so if you plan on fading him it's best to do it with a 1-ball book in case he retires early in the match. If however you suspect his injury is nothing serious and feel he's a value bet then obviously it's best to take the precaution of backing him somewhere that will void your bet if he is forced to retire. I don't think either set of rules offers an advantage in itself although for in-play betting I'm sure the traders on betfair with the fastest satellite pictures make an absolute killing every time there's a sudden injury after the first set. Personally I prefer the rule that voids all incomplete matches. It just seems the fairest approach. There's nothing more sickeneing than losing a bet because your player picked up a freak injury, especially if he was winning comfortably at the time.

  5. Re: Tennis, Week 9 I agree Melzer is value. I laid 2-0 Hewitt at 1.63. The 4-0 h2h puts me off backing Melzer to win as does the fact that I was quite impressed with Hewitt yesterday despite Safin being shit but the Austrian nutcase is definitely capable of taking a set at least.

  6. Re: The Tenner Tennis Challenge 5/5 so far. Bank stands at £18.92. Pity I lost my bottle and went for flat staking becuase my original intention was to do a proper kamikaze full bank stake on each bet. Oh well. Wins is wins and aren't to be sniffed at.

  7. Re: The Tenner Tennis Challenge Changed my mind on that one after reading about conditions in Vegas. The beauty of betfair. It's windy as hell and wind is regarded as the biggest equaliser in tennis. he should still win but it's a mugs bet at that price regardless of the outcome. Blake is known to struggle in the wind more than most. I laid at 1.14 to cover the stake and leave 9p green on Blake.

  8. Re: The Tenner Tennis Challenge Bet 4: Blake v Korolev £10 - 1.15 at betfair Defending champion so has points to defend here and should be highly motivated as a result. Also had a comfortable straight sets win over the same opponent earlier this year in Sydney.

  9. Re: Tennis, Week 9

guzman v kim looks like a fix. kim was available at 2.75 before the bookies pulled it. he's around 1.4 on betfair now. guzman has previous history of fishy matches too.
kim went off sub 1.3...............and got hammered 6-4, 6-2. Market paranoia at its finest. Guzman is now a bookie's hero.
  10. Re: The Tenner Tennis Challenge first bet was a winner. Bet 2: Robredo v De Voest £10 - 1.11 at betfair Robredo had an easy win first round. De Voest is lucky to be here after getting in as a lucky loser which he followed up by beating Verkerk who hasn't played at all for over a year.

  11. I'm a bit bored with gambling at the moment so I need a public glory hunt to keep me amused for a while. As per the title I'll be starting with a tenner, betting on tennis and seeing how far I can take it. I don't have any concrete plans as regards staking or banking. I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. It's bound to end in tears but hopefully it'll be fun for a while. Bet 1: Djokovic v Pavel £10 - 1.22 at betfair. Djokovic is in good form this year winning 8 matches out of 10. Only losses have been to Federer and the in-form Youzhny. The veteran Pavel's best days are behind him.

  12. Re: Tennis, Week 7

yeah I'm going to give it a miss as well. Portas might have known about a couple of other players withdrawing and that he was guaranteed a place in the first round even if he lost. The market has been jumping all over the place on betfair. I screwed myself backing that clown Volandri who was either injured or partying the night before judging by the way his price drifted so I'm not in the mood to risk anything else on a first round match in a Mickey Mouse event.
glad I changed my mind on that one. Portas hammered him 6-2, 6-2. These small events are a minefield.
