  1. Re: Memorable Races I have given plenty of losers as well (mainly!) but it was the occassion as well as the nature of the place Ruby got. This is after timing really but these races are memorable to me which is what the thread asks for! Not betting I am not sure. Any Frankel race, especially the Sussex vs Canford but that is not really original! Another memorable one for the wrong reasons was Pictire Editor at Newmarket where again I was on one of my best mates stag do's and I told everyone this horse could lose, even at odds on t was a cert. I tihnk he was fave or near enough for the Derby at the time. I was pissed Friday night and lumped on. The next day a lot of people I knew and was with lumped on too only for it to put in a terrible effort and finish third. Think Measuring Time won? I still get abused about it today but I that really did change my mentality toward backing short prices so I guess it was a good thing really

  2. Re: Memorable Races The SDC 2011 one I remember being in the Arkle Bar going nuts! Also, I was on my brothers stag do, we started at the Showcase meting on 16th October 2010 and I did a placepot. Ruby rode an amazing race to get Picture This into second, no chance with winner but only 7 runner and he never gave up. It was amazing. That made the difference with winning and the dividend was about 360/1. Myself, dad and a few of my brothers mates were on too as they copied me! Went onto Birmingham after and had a great night but I will never forget that ride and race

  3. Re: Memorable Races From a betting point of view and the nature of the wins probably Sir Des Champs at the fesitval 2011 and last year Alfie Sherrin, I was lucky enough to be at Cheltenham both days and was going mental to the point where I was probably embarrassing myself!

  4. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread I say this time and time again but if you are worried about gambles and non tirers then don't gamble on the races where this is more likely to happen. Stick to higher grades and more prize money, it really is that simple. That Storm Survivor wasn't even gambled on anyway!

  5. Re: Race In Focus - King George VI Chase - Kempton Racecourse - 26th December 2012 Had a decent antepost bet on Al Ferof so disappointed. Cue Card does interest me as a winner but certainly not at 9/2, far too short. Riverside I just am not sure about his form compared to others. Grands Crus I agree probably does look like the EW value if on song and at his best like at the track last year, but I would rather wait until the day than back antepost. Long Run will make the market

  6. Re: Money Management & Staking Plans Yes exactly, staking should not be based on price but how far out you think the price is, or perceived value. This is how I decide how much to have on a horse, it should not be dictated by the odds themselves I have an account with everyone, some of them are more useable than others! but I place my bet, depositing the cash each time, and if it wins I take the money straight out into my bank so I never have any cash laying there

  7. Re: Money Management & Staking Plans

No I am not Assuming you are weak minded & if I have caused offence I apologise, perhaps I should have waited while you explained your staking in more depth as you indicated. Rio.
Haha. No mate, I didn't mean it like that. Just the negative you put is surely not to do with the staking plan, but more the mental strength of the person using it
  8. Re: Money Management & Staking Plans Relalting to my point Rio, you are assuming I am (or anyone who stakes like this) weak minded in that case, and that I think I haven't had enough on winners, and that I don't stick to my staking plan when winning. That is an incorrect assumption. Even when I am on a losing run I am confident a winner is near by and I don't get too down about, although of course it is frustrating

  9. Re: Money Management & Staking Plans I know it is boring but I stick to a point system from 0.5 to 4 but this is based on confidence rather than how much I want to win and the price is irrelvant. This is not based on a %age but price per point. I will write a bit more later but it's as simple as this. I'm not sure what negatives there are for this system?

  10. Re: Antepost bets & Discussion - Jump Season 2012/13

I backed My Tent Or Yours for the Supreme at 25/1. Vibes at home are good and he is their 2 miler at the moment. Was worried he may go further but seems not at this stage.
Form keeps staking up. Only backed this and one other so far for Cheltenham which is unusual for me. Other is Hinterland for the Arkle but he is bigger now than when I backed him and not confident. Tempted to keep topping up on a Quevega/Big Bucks double but just can't bring myself to do it at the odds :) Would be interested in Cue Card if he went for the Ryanair but his target is uncertain. Nothing is really standing out this year as ante post value
  11. Re: Punter's Lounge Confessional - Aspects I Must Improve - Making it pay in 2013!! I do think ante post betting is becoming increasingly pointless, aside from Cheltenham though when it's a long way off and there are numerous trial races in between. The Hennessy recently was a joke ante post, by the time the day came the favourites were the same price, or even bigger than a week or two before and bookies were offering much better EW terms on the day. This has happened for a lot of the big handicaps and Graded races so far. As I said the Festival is different though. I do think there are a lot of good opportunities but you need to understand the calendar fully and horses/trainer targets to make the most out of it imo

  13. Re: The Devil...Betting and The Best Tip.

TheRat mentioned earlier in the thread that he doesn't see how anyone could have a bet everyday. Big stakes and limited bankroll I could understand, but when there are multiple meetings per day it's relatively easy to find a few fancies whilst maintaining discipline.
But to me its about being confident about a bet. Not just finding one for the sake of it. I could find a bet everyday but that's not what I'm trying to do. Finding a 'few fancies' per day is not me. Being confident and betting on selected races is. Good replies in here. I really do find the subject interesting and will check out some of these books
