  1. Re: Cheltenham - Tuesday 15th March 2010

Really not liking the shorter run in at all. Just seems to spoil it for me. Dunno what you all think but for me i loved the long run in and the excitment of it all.
Whilst it had the excitement it diminished the importance of jumping. I think I will reserve judgement until the end of racing.

I really fancied Dunguib and thought he might be a class apart' date=' although he wasn't given the greatest ride if it was good enough it would have got there and it wasn't. Just goes to show why it's dangerous to back odds on in top class races.[/quote'] I think it also shows that the moving of the final flight forwards 75 yards had an effect as well.
  3. Re: 10 to follow - JUMPS 2009-10 - Post your entries here - ENTRIES CLOSE MIDDAY 13/1

Leaderboard and full points list of all horses not yet available on the official site. As soon as it is I'll get the first scores done and an early leaderboard' date=' somehow think Ginge might be leading as I think he was the only one with Tranquil Sea. :ok[/quote'] It is up here now for your comp, mowgli. Caeras Whisper is jt 168th.

I have one list with Tranquil Sea, Solwhit and Tatatiano.[/quote] The first two with Sizing Europe. The list has Kauto and VPU entered up this weekend as well. It could be my syndicate's best ever start. On the other hand.... That's them guaranteed to be turned over then!!
  5. Re: British & Irish Lions Tour - South Africa 2009

This game was all about the job that the beast did on Phill Vickery and never got penalised.Lions were starved of any ball the first half and made far too many errors in the scrum and lineouts. Steyn kept us pegged down in our half and you can't win games from there. Adam Jones steadied the front row the second half but i wouldn't reasd too much into that as the boks took their foot off the gas and made multiple substitutions but all makes for a cracker next Saturday.
I would read plenty into Jones and, just as importantly, Rees coming on, as at the time the Saffers hadn't made their substitutions. Vickery was getting no protection from Mears in the scrum either. The Beast was shorter than Vickery and did a number on him. Jones is shorter than the Beast and did one on the Beast. Rees also is a more powerful scrummager than Mears. Before they Saffers made subs in the front row we were starting to push them back.
  6. Re: British & Irish Lions Tour - South Africa 2009 Good write-up, DB, although I disagree on a couple of things. Firstly I think the front row is still undecided. Frankly, as far as the props are concerned, I wouldn't worry who we picked for the test team. It must be that Murray isn't showing much on the practice pitch and, although I fully accept what you say about Vickery, who I thought was there for midweek, Jones has really impressed me. He mullered the Bok squad member on Wednesday and his work in the loose has been a revelation. In addition, he gives fewer penalties away than Red Bull and I think he is in with a shout. Agree with you about the back 3 and only Nugget has a chance, but the midfield for this game concerns me as being lightweight, defensively, and I have never rated 'Meerkat' at 9. However, I think, again, our setpiece will win the game and I have taken the Lions on the handicap. As an aside I note what you say about AWJ. I am a huge fan of his (and see him as a future Lions captain) but he strikes me as being too similar to POC. If Hines plays well today I could see him getting the nod for the tests.

  7. Re: British & Irish Lions Tour - South Africa 2009 Well, having watched the game, twice, I am glad I didn't get involved, betting wise, even if I was kicking the imaginary cat. A disjointed performance saved by the NH's best full back, Lee Byrne. A back three that didn't function at the break down and, in Earls, a realisation that Shanklin's injury and absence could hurt the Lions as he is Test back up. Blair showed why he had a poor 6N but had no help from Wallace, who may be a test flanker but is not a No 8. Perhaps the most important thing to take out of this, though, is that any punter must know the identity of the ref. The Saffer today was embarrassing. The Royals front row regularly stood upright (penalty but never given), the scrum wheeled 180 (change of put in, never happened) and flankers leaving the scrum before the scrum had ended (penalty, never given). There should or could have been 3 yellow cards for the Royal scrum but there was barely a penalty. This is not sour grapes, as the team raised their game, but FFS the official has to apply the laws!

  8. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

Barton' date=' the only answer to your question I can think of at the moment is that England [u']potentially have the ability to beat Wales. So +9 for England is potentially a huge start especially for a team that if they were to click and get ahead could even win this game. :lol I liken England to a race horse that is falling down the handicap and you hope that it discovers some of its old love for the game! :hope Regarding Worsley it certainly is damage limitation, he isn't really an open side and he is fine running with the ball but his distribution can let him down at times. I think Goode might have a better game for England this time around, he didn't get any kicking practice at Twickenham last week due to the tent covering the pitch so I am willing to give him another chance.
If it is to be likened to a racehorse dropping down the handicp it should be entered in a selling plate sooner rather than later, although I confidently expect few bids! I can't see Goode kicking as badly but equally he isn't going to run a backline either. So, the England plan has to be kick to touch and challenge the one weakness in the Welsh game, the lineout, as the scrum is no longer an option. However, with Borthwick still in the side that still means there is a problem getting over the gainline as he has the presence of a powder puff. In addition, the team looks as if it would also like to play a rolling maul all day...sadly not an option in the world of ELVs. To win England will have to kick the penalties and hope that Wales fail to play AND England can defend for 80 minutes. It just isn't gonna happen, is it?
  9. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

Date: Saturday 14 February, 2009 Kick-off: 17:00 GMT Venue: Millennium Stadium, Cardiff Referee: Jonathan Kaplan (South Africa) Touch judges: Alan Lewis (Ireland), Peter Fitzgibbon (Ireland) TMO: Simon McDowell (Ireland) England: 15 Delon Armitage (London Irish), 14 Paul Sackey (London Wasps), 13 Mike Tindall (Gloucester Rugby), 12 Riki Flutey (London Wasps), 11 Mark Cueto (Sale Sharks), 10 Andy Goode (Brive), 9 Harry Ellis (Leicester Tigers), 8 Nick Easter (Harlequins), 7 Joe Worsley (London Wasps), 6 James Haskell (London Wasps), 5 Nick Kennedy (London Irish), 4 Steve Borthwick (Saracens, captain), 3 Phil Vickery (London Wasps), 2 Lee Mears (Bath Rugby), 1 Andrew Sheridan (Sale Sharks). Replacements: 16 Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints), 17 Julian White (Leicester Tigers), 18 Tom Croft (Leicester Tigers), 19 Luke Narraway (Gloucester Rugby), 20 Paul Hodgson (London Irish), 21 Toby Flood (Leicester Tigers), 22 Mathew Tait (Sale Sharks).
Anyone else think this is a damage limitation pick? Worsley can tackle all day but a number 7 he isn't. So, anyone think of any reason why the bookies are only going -9 on Wales?
