  1. Re: Jump Racing Wednesday 18th

My Flora ran as if this trip was way too short' date=' but I'm not sure if she can put it up to the boys anyway. Anybody know how mares have done in the Foxhunters over the years?[/quote'] I thought she travelled well and didnt find an awful lot under pressure. You could be right about the trip as I mentioned in my preview that it was a slight concern. Mid Div And Creep was 2nd in the race last year but I believe that its been a while since a mare actually won the race. I must admit based on today's run My Flora isnt good enough but we shall see. Worth baring in mind she will be much better in the weights with today's winner given the jockey wont be able to claim as well and as impressive as he was today the trip round Cheltenham might be plenty far enough for him. He also still has to qualify for the race but he should do that based on today's effort.

couldnt watch the hunters chase. how did alvarado run? did he fnish at all? would be nice if someone could tell me...thx
Ran as if he needed to go the other way round and his jumping wasnt great either. Not sure if he finished or not but the winner was very impressive.
  3. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Jan 21 Ships I believe that the land can only be used for entertainment purposes so no housing/supermarket etc can be built on the land. I know its sad that the club could fold but I how on earth is it fair on the rest of the league knowing that there is a strong chance they could fold in three games time. If I was the Conference I would want proof they can make it to the end of the season before allowing them to play anymore games. As for Saturday's game I would imagine Blue Square will price it up but probably only the 90 minute market. I expect Fleetwood will rest some players and no doubt the Darlo players left will want to perform for the fans but its hard not to see anything bar a Fleetwood win.

  4. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem Jan 21 It seems some fans are trying to save Darlo although its hard to see them having enough money but I think they are trying to get enough money together to play the next two games to see what happens then. As for Kettering Mark Cooper has told the players they can leave as they have all had enough and although he hasnt left himself yet it does seem to cast a doubt on Saturday's game going ahead.

  5. Re: Jump Racing Wednesday 18th Newbury 4.15 Its the first hunter chase of the season and not only does it look a cracker but I think we could see the Foxhunter winner on show. I have to start with My Flora who looked a horse to keep a very close eye on this season judged on what she did last year. She won two Mens Opens before making her rules debut at Bangor. Her jumping was a bit sketchy that day but that was down to the fast ground and she still bolted up. She then followed that up with a hugely impressive victory at Stratford where she beat in a decent field with ease. I was at Chaddesley Corbett last month when she made her seasonal debut and again she hacked up in a quick time and beating some good horses in the process.

Amazingly My Flora has to give weight away to a Cheltenham Festival winner in Chapoturgeon who makes his debut in this sphere today. The problem for me with him though is that he hasn’t won since the Festival win in 2009 and he looks like he might have peaked already. His jumping is a big concern as is this trip although he might get away with it round Newbury. His BHA rating is currently 144 and connections clearly don’t think he is up to winning off that sort of mark and although he may win hunter chases later in the season I don’t think he will win this.

Two other interesting horses running in hunter chases for the first time are Cloudy Lane and Alvarado. The former has been off the track for over 600 days and it’s hard to think that at his age this course and distance is going to be what he wants. Alvarado interests me more because he looks progressive. He won three novice chases when trained by Howards Johnson last season and has now gone to Evan Williams’ yard. His jumping hasn’t looked his strong point and he has to give weight all round here, but it’s hard to know how good he is and is one to keep a close eye on especially if the money comes for him.

Turko will come on for his seasonal return 11 days ago, but I doubt he will be up to winning a race like this although if his jumping holds up he should run well. Billvoddan has turned over a new leaf since running in points and hunter chases and won on the same card as My Flora did last month. In as good as form as he is I just can’t see him beating her and the trip might be sharp enough to. I can see The Polomoche running well and could reward each-way support. He doesn’t stay 3m and was just caught on the line at Barbury on his seasonal debut last month. This trip will suit better and although I don’t see him beating My Flora I can see him hitting the frame.

I have already backed My Flora for Cheltenham at 16/1 and she is currently no bigger than 10/1. Two slight concerns I have tomorrow are the trip (although I do think she has enough pace to cope) and the fact she has to give weight away to some of her rivals whereas she wouldn’t at Cheltenham. Connections are very bullish as regards her Foxhunters’ claims and they wouldn’t run her here if they didn’t think she would win. I think she is hugely progressive (unlike most of these) and although this is her toughest task yet, she can win this before going on to claim Cheltenham glory.

My Flora 2pts (around 5/2 on Betfair when posting)

  6. Re: Ruby Walsh on Twitter

Apart from AP, does anyone know of a racing personality with a following of more than 35k twitter followers? Trainer wise, Paul Nicholls has 35k, but on the flat, even Johnny Muragh has less than 15k. Don't think Frankie has an official page. Even the broadcasters like Hoiles and Luck are around the 10/15k mark.
There a lot of Racing people on Twitter but like you say none of them bar McCoy and Nicholls have a really big following. Given Nicholls has 35k and he tweets a fair bit I find it hard to see Ruby getting near that mark within two months. As someone else has said the fact he hasnt really tweeted anything worthwhile so far is not going to help him.
  7. Re: England > Midweek > Non-league Jan 17-18 There is one game in the BSP on Tuesday night which Ships is having problems putting up but it will probably be the only bet I have. It is the Hayes v Ebbsfleet game which was called off because of waterlogging on New Years Day with Ebbsfleet already a goal to the good. I tipped Ebbsfleet that day and I dont think too much has changed since then so I am happy to go in again at 6/4 with Paddy Power. Hayes did have the weekend off whilst Ebbsfleet beat Chester 3-2 in the Trophy. Although Chester are two leagues below I still think thats a decent result and Hayes arent in great shape at the moment.

  8. Re: Ruby Walsh on Twitter

There are a few Stan James in Ireland, I think they operate on a franchise basis. Am I right in thinking that VC also pulled all their shops in the UK? Again, there are a couple in Ireland. Very handy to have access to the shops.....
Yes Victor sold his shops a few years ago although again he didnt have that many anyway.
  9. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem, North & South Jan 14 It has been confirmed that they have been allowed extra players by the Conference to help make the numbers. It does make you wonder why it has taken until now for Kettering to work that out. Danny Mills has been at Tamworth this season and has scored three goals and scored 6 when on loan at Kettering last season whilst the other player doesnt seem to have played any first team football. Kettering didnt train until Thursday this week and they are still going to be light on bodys. Although Im not going to start betting with Russian bookies myself I wouldnt put you off having a small interest on the handicap at that price.

  10. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem, North & South Jan 14 Well the latest news is that Peterborough are reporting that a couple of their young players have joined Kettering on loan as the Conference have allowed them to sign some players. One is a striker and one is a left-back. The local journlist who I am following on twitter thinks it might not be allowed but he is obviously trying to find out more. Worth waiting and seeing what the final story is before placing any money.

  11. Re: England > Weekend > BlueSQ Bet Prem, North & South Jan 14

So you would take FGR on HC against Kettering?
I would unless it comes out Kettering have been allowed to bring players in but its getting late in the day for that now so it seems like it isnt going to happen. Like I say though no one seems to have handicap prices. There are none on oddschecker and I checked Blue Square and Betvictor (new name for VC) and nothing on there and they usually do have handicap betting. Blue Square actually only have match prices available which is unlike them. FGR have been struggling for goals of late but given the strength of Ketterings defence tomorrow they are bound to get plenty of chances.
  12. Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Jan 14 Lewes v Kingstonian Surprising news came out of Lewes this week when manager Steve King was suspended by the club. No reason has been forthcoming as of yet but it’s hardly a good situation for the club to be in going into a game on Saturday. The home side haven’t been that convincing of late in the Ryman Premier, even when they were winning games. They have failed to win in three now and that included a shock draw against bottom of the table Horsham (they only have 10 points). Kingstonian have been pretty inconsistent for most of the season but aren’t doing too badly at the moment with only two defeats in the last eight and look a bit more stable than previously. They have got a decent enough team and on their day are capable of giving anyone in the league a game. Given Lewes’ dip in form and King’s suspension I think the 11/4 (general) on an away win looks on the large side.
