  1. Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 - 3pts Bangladesh to Reach the Quarter Finals 7/4 Ladbrokes Bookmakers are starting to get their markets up ahead of the World Cup now and one that I have seen quite a lot lately is the 'Will the Top 8 make the Quart Finals?' line. I was thinking about this and I can't help but feel that not all 8 of them will. If you cast your mind back four years ago, Ireland and Bangladesh both made the Super 8's at the expense of bigger cricketing nations such as India and Pakistan whilst in 2003, Kenya, unexpectedly made the Super 6's. Now I know a LOT has changed in the past four years and the format is a bit different this time around but this World Cup is so wide open with no real clear favourite going into it that I can't help but feel the same thing will happen again. One of the lesser playing nations will reach the quarter finals and I think the team in the best position to do so is Bangladesh. Their Group consists of India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Holland & Ireland and I generally do feel that they have what it takes to pick up wins against the latter two and maybe even the West Indies and/or an under-pressure England side. Their ODI form in 2010 doesn't speak volumes for them but they still have a few players with world cup experience and the Indian Sub-Continent pitches will be not too dis-similar to what they experience back home. If they impress in their warm up matches then I can only see this price shortening so am willing to take this now. I really don't know if I'm going mad with this or if this is actually a viable shout so in that respect, would love to hear other peoples thoughts. Generally speaking you'd say that outside of the major 8, Bangladesh are the best side going so at 7/4 I'd say there's a bit of value. Will be interesting to see what others think.

  2. Re: Cricket: Sri Lanka vs West Indies - ODI Series Tharanga beat Sangakkara to Sri Lanka's top batsman and Bravo cleared the Overs in every single completed match this series, a bit unfortunate that the 1st ODI was never completed in that respect but what can you do. Nice shout on Tharanga Otter and unlucky on the Mathews Kev, missed out by three runs.

  3. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series I've not been researching properly recently and has led me to post some stupid tips in the recent cricket matches. Nothing is screaming at me for this ODI too with several players and the series being over a long time ago. Will sit this one out and look ahead to the World Cup (which I can't wait for). The thread for that needs to go up asap. Best of luck lads :hope

  4. Re: Cricket: New Zealand vs Pakistan - ODI Series Going to be out later on so getting mine up now. Looking to end this series on a high after a pretty good day in the last ODI. Not too much going on for me in the last ODI. Can't pick a winner so: - 6pts Pakistan to hit the Most Sixes @ 11/10 BlueSq Some bookies have really come in on this line and with good reason too. Pakistan have won this three times on the spin and I would've thought that more bookies would've followed Bet365's footsteps in taking this down to 20/21. This ground is a regular for Sixes being hit. In the last 7 completed ODIs here, there have been a total of 84 sixes working out at 12 every match. WillHill have their Over/Under line enticingly set at 10.5 but I can't trust this mis-firing New Zealand batting line-up to deliver the big hits at the moment. In the fairly T20i that these two played here, there were 16 sixes. Yeah you can't really compare T20 to ODI's but it shows that the ropes can be cleared. Happily take this at odds against and am hoping the trend continues once more. - 4pts Umar Gul (Player Performance) - 37 & Over 5/6 Bet365 We've said it before and we'll say it again. Umar Gul is Pakistan's best bowler and he is definitely able to take two wickets tomorrow. He did it in the last match and I'm sure he will do it again tomorrow. He has a great yorker, and is lethal at the death. You've heard it all before. - 0.25pts Kamran Akmal (Player Performance) SELL at 42 Sporting Index Never really had the bollocks to have a dig at a spread bet before. The beauty of paper trailing though allows you to experiment in such things and I will certainly have a go here. Kamran Akmal is Pakistan's #3 and in four innings this series he has scored 51 runs with a Top Score of 20. He opened the batting in the first match and he got 8. He was moved to number three from then on and has scores of 6, 20 and 17. Not good enough for any batsman so far up the order. On top of this, believe it or not he has actually only taken one catch this series as a wicket-keeper. In five matches this series, he has acquired a total of 61 performance points which is dire. He will definitely go to the World Cup with Pakistan and despite his bad performances so far, he isn't really under pressure to impress anyone. Plenty of risk as always with spread betting but I'm hoping he has another shocker tomorrow.

  5. Re: Cricket: New Zealand vs Pakistan - ODI Series Apologies for the lateness here: - 6pts Pakistan To Hit the Most Sixes @ 6/5 Stan James Echoing the above really. Pakistan should win this at a canter and have the personnel in their squad too. The boundary here is small and the last five ODI's have seen 10 or more sixes. The Under/Over line is at 11.5 though and the weather is reportedly overcast so I'm not going to venture into calling how many. I do know that the Akmals, Afridi, Razzaq, Shehzad, Hafeez and even Umar Gul can strike oneand at this price, I'll take it all day long. - 1.5pts Wahab Riaz Top Pakistan Bowler @ 10/3 BlueSquare Been impressed with Wahab in this series. He has taken 5 wickets so far and has generally bowled good lines to accompany the wickets. He changes his lengths quite often and has a great bouncer in his armoury. The Kiwi batsmen at the moment are all losing their wickets very cheaply and the variation Riaz serves up will be another test for them today. I expect him to at least chip in with one and if he snags another, he'll be well up there with Top Bowlers for Pakistan. Akhtar is in today, but he looks a shadow of his former self and I don't particularly rate Tanvir THAT highly. Hopefully Riaz does the business here and turns my tipping in this series round.

  6. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series Worked out my +/- for the T20 x ODI's and it currently sits at +1.114 and that's including my two outrights which have already been wrapped up. Nothing is screaming at me loudly for this match though. There are so many injuries to both sides, so many players out of form and a series result that has already been decided so winner markets I'm steering well clear from. - 5pts Brett Lee (Player Performance) - 40 & Over 8/11 Bet365 The overs in the Brett Lee Performance markets have come in 5 times out of 5 in this ODI series so far and I'm pretty sure it will happen again. Shane Watson aside, Lee has probably been the best player on both sides since the limited overs started. His experience has shone through on several occasions throughout the series and has taken more wickets than anyone else. Even when he doesn't perform with the ball such as in the 4th ODI... 39runs! Don't expect him to chip in with the bat though. I reckon he can clear this with the ball alone and the reduced odds reflect that. Strauss' form has dipped majorly and he has had Prior round his little finger a few times this series. He got three here a week ago, expect more of the same later. - 3pts Australia Highest Opening Partnership @ 5/6 Bet365 I alluded to this in the above tip; Strauss and Prior are not a natural opening partnership. Despite Prior's impressive knock last time out, I still don't think he should be opening the batting in limited overs cricket. Australia took this line even when England's opening pair scored 90 runs and I really just think a settled Watson/Haddin will score more than an under-pressure Strauss/Prior. Lee will get at those two with pace and bounce from early on whilst England's bowling attack looks a bit weak and has been decimated by injuries. No Bresnan, Tremlett or Shahzad tomorow means a distinct lack of pace and aggression for England. Chris Woakes is very inexperienced despite taking all those wickets a few days back and I really don't rate Steven Finn. I actually thought they might be 1.70 or something for this. Aussies to take this for me. - 0.5pts Cameron White Man of the Match @ 16/1 Bet365 - 0.5pts Kevin Pietersen Man of the Match @ 12/1 Bet365 - 0.5pts James Andersen Man of the Match @ 15/1 Bet365 If you get it right, the man of the match market can be lucrative for you in cricket. Generally in ODIs it's the guy who scores the most runs or takes the most wickets, simple as. I really, really, really think that Pietersen is going to come up with a ridiculous innings before the World Cup. He can't go seven matches against Australia without scoring a Hundred can he? Yes his one-day form has been patchy in recent years, yes he hasn't scored a century in blah amount of matches but he is too good to rule him out changing this form very soon. The pressure is off Australia so if they see a Pietersen hundred tomorow its a minor for them. Similarly Cameron White has been due an innings for quite some time. He has got a few starts without ever pushing on to make a big score so I think 16/1 on him scoring big is worth a small back. Without the other strike bowlers for England Jimmy is by far our best bowler, if he takes 4 or 5 here I'm pretty sure he'll take the MOTM. He took 7 in two innings in the Test so a small punt on him doing well again is worth a shout.

  7. Re: Cricket: New Zealand vs Pakistan - ODI Series Been a bit quiet in this series so far. Still paper trailing ahead of the World Cup. Tips for tomorrow are as follows: - 6pts Umar Gul (Player Performance) - 40 & Over Bet365 Umar Gul is a Pakistan's best bowler by a fair margin. He is good with the new ball and can be very economical when needed. He is also very lethal at the death with a brilliant full and swinging yorker in his armoury. He is more than capable of taking two wickets tomorrow as he did so last time out after just coming back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury. He isn't completely useless with the bat in his hands too. I don't expect him to bat for a great deal of time coming in at #10, however he can swing the bat if needed. As I mentioned earlier though, I expect this to be cleared with the ball alone. Napier has been nice to the quicks in recent history so I am hoping Gul can exploit some early movement and pick up a couple. - 5pts Pakistan to Hit the Most Sixes @ 6/5 Stan James Pakistan have a very destructive batting line up. If they're in the mood, Hafeez, Shehzad, Akmal, Razzaq & Afridi can all batter that white Kookaburra into the stands with a swing of the arms. If you compare that to the New Zealand side, Guptill, Ryder & Mcculum only really strike you as their natural big hitters. Napier is a proper cricket ground, however rugby is played there and the dimensions aren't the biggest in world cricket. It was a toss up between this market and The Total 6's market, however the general Over/Under margin sat at 11.5 which is a touch too high for me. Pakistan sailed this in the last match and if they bat first and if Afridi and Razzaq can get some time to free their biceps in the powerplays, I'm sure they'll sail it again. - 1pt ew Scott Styris Top New Zealand Batsman @ 6/1 1/5 (1-3) Coral Scott Styris is a ODI veteran with a fairly impressive record at Napier. His last four innings there have been scores of 49, 20, 41 & 41, which should be enough to get him at least a place if he repeats any of those 40-somethings tomorrow. He will come in at #5 which very slightly might be an issue but in light of the not-so-great recent form from New Zealands Top order batmsen, I reckon he can do it. His Player Performance line is also something that interested me at only 38, however he often only bowls a few overs so I didn't want to chance it just incase. 7pts New Zealand Highest 15 Over Score @ 10/11 Blue Square Pakistan seem to have a gameplan whereby they plod along for the first 20 overs ensuring that they keep their wickets intact and then up the ante towards the end of the innings when the Akmals, the Razzaqs and the Afridis come in. All four of their top four batsmen have ODI Strike Rates of Under 65.00 contrary to the fact that all four of New Zealands Top Four have strike rates of over 65.00. Pakistan scored 297 runs in 50 overs last time out but only scored 43 runs in the first 15 overs! Shehzad was stroking the ball around on the miniscule pitch in the abandoned match however, the others around him (Hafeez, Younis Khan and Misbah) are painfully slow scorers. If oyu had this pick in the other two ODI's where results were scored, you wouldve had a winner. Fairly big bet on NZ coming up trumps again.

  8. Re: Cricket: Sri Lanka vs West Indies - ODI Series One ahead of the 1st ODI too: 8pts Dwayne Bravo (Player Performance) - 38 & Over w/ Bet365 I'm a big Dwayne Bravo fan also. He too is one of West Indies most important players and has been a key mainstay in a side troubled by legal wranglings and heavy rotation. 38 points is well within Bravo's reach as both a batsman and a bowler. He comes in at #5 which should give him plenty of time to achieve the runs if need be and one thing that should be noticed is that he has 16 'not-outs' in his 87 innings as an ODI batsman proving that he is fairly decent at being there come the end of the innings. He also has 129 wickets in 95 matches where he has actually bowled showing how effective he can be with the ball. He also is a very good death bowler where we all know, is a key time to pick up wickets. Even if I wasn't paper trailing I think I would go in with 8pts on this, it's a fairly generous line and he definitely is capable of clearing it. Fingers crossed he does.

  9. Re: Cricket: Sri Lanka vs West Indies - ODI Series We don't have a great deal to go on ahead of this series. Neither of these two sides have played One-Day cricket for months and it looks like rain will once again be a factor probably meaning one of the three will be a wash-out or will end up being reduced overs. This will be the last series I shall paper-trail ahead of the World Cup. One outright to begin: 1.5pts KC Sangakarra Top Sri Lanka Batsman @ 11/4 Bet365 I'm a massive Sangakkara fan. I think he is the best captain in world cricket and I also think he is one-of, if not the best wicket-keeper too. To go on top of that he is a ridiculously good batsman and has made the #3 slot in the Sri Lanka side his own since being promoted there last year. He has a ODI batting average in excess of 36.00 and has well over 8,500 runs to his name in this format. He is a top player and I am more than happy to back a very-good top order batsman to thrive in a series which will more-than-likely be affected by rain. He is going to be one of my tips to be Top Runs scorer at the World Cup and I think he will warm up for it nicely in this series too.

  10. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series Flippin 'ell somehow Jimmy managed to get 20 runs :nana Lee got two wickets as expected and Watson added another 70-odd points which should take him over 350 for the series. England lost out on the 15 over score by three runs which is very annoying, would've been a nice clean sweep had that come in. Series is gone though, very disappointing in that respect. Few blinders for Kev and RG was on the Lee overs. Nice shout on the Colly runs too Otter. Another profitable cricket thread :clap

  11. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series Been seriously thinking about these for hours but am going to back myself (something I stupidly failed to do in the Pakistan/New Zealand series). 5pts James Anderson (Player Performance) - 40 & Over 5/6 Bet365 I effectively see this line as James Anderson to get two wickets as I do not envisage him getting that much time at the crease with the bat. I backed him last week when this line was 37 & Over and I will back him again tonight. He has come back into the squad from his long break and immediately picked up the form he left behind in the test series with two wickets last time out. He brings a big element of control to the England bowling attack and he will take the new ball tomorow on a ground renowned to bring movement and bounce to the quicks. On top of his bowling, he usually fields inside the circle and is usually in positions to take catches off any mistimed shots that'll more than likely come towards the end of the Aussie innings. I'm not factoring that in though, I fully expect him to take two wickets and am willing to put my money on him doing so. 4pts Michael Yardy (Player Performance) - 33 & Over Bet365 Yardy has three genuine methods of scoring points in cricket matches. He usually bowls his full allotment of overs, is handy with the bat and takes quite a few catches. So far this series he has taken two wickets, scored 77 runs and held onto five catches. Turn those into Performance Pts and you have 167pts split over 4 games which equals 41.75pts per match. Even if he doesn't take a wicket, he is handy with the bat. He scored a measured 39* last match and held onto a catch taking a lot of pressure off his bowling. Just feel this is a touch too low and has been over the course of the series. At #8 too, expect him to come in with not that long to spare meaning he can slog his way around a bit which he can do. Batting average in ODIs sits at the mid-twenties so 1 wicket here and I reckon this will come in nicely. I already have Shane Watson to score 350 points for the series, he is currently sitting on 319 so I am hoping he clears that tomorow. I genuinely am stuck as to whether to take Brett Lee in the 40 & Over market though. He is the leading wicket taker so far this series and has a better chance of scoring runs off the bat if needed. However, it doesn't feel right in the stomach. I'll mull over it for more time and add it later if need be.

  12. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series No idea who will win tomorrow so am staying away from match result markets. I'll return later for my player performance bets, been mulling over some for hours. One for now though: 5pts England to Have the Highest Score at 15 Overs @ 5/6 England have taken this in three of the four matches so far. In the one that they lost, Kevin Pietersen wasn't playing and Matt Prior was looking shit-scared at the crease coming off the back of a duck in the previous match, going on to score another duck in that match. Thus two of England's fastest scorers were out very quickly or weren't even in in the first place. Both of those players feature tomorrow and Prior this time is coming off the back off a decent knock in the last match which should do his confidence the world of good. Anderson comes back into the bowling attack for England which again, helps them out in this line as he as we all know brings a good measure of control to the England bowling attack. Trott comes in at #3, he is not the fastest scorer ever but he is very good at frustrating the bowlers with his impressive ability to push the ball into gaps for quick singles/twos. Watson and Haddin score at a decent pace however, Clarke is ridiculously out of nick and Marsh hasn't played at #3 for that many matches. Just fancy England to take this again. Oddschecker tells me that Boyles have this line at EVS incase anyone wants to follow and take a better price.

  13. Re: Cricket: New Zealand vs Pakistan - ODI Series Impressive shout on the 6's there Kev, was going to follow myself but for some reason I pussied out. Was also looking around yesterday at the Player Performances and was very tempted by Umar Gul (40 & Over), Tim Southee (40 & Over) and Scott Styris (33 & Over) but once again, for some reason, didn't back myself. :unsure Yet the all came in. :wall Annoying but only myself to blame. Nice shout on Bennett too Otter. :clap

  14. Re: Tennis - The Australian Open (17-30 January) Does anyone give Na Li a chance here? Yeah she's playing well and has a game capable of winning a Slam in the future but I really really can't look past Kim in tomorows final. She's a better player and has shitloads of experience to fall back on. I think there is some value in Kim winning 2-0 at 10/11, it has come in from EVS overnight. Am I underrating Li too much here or is it a good shout?

  15. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series

4pts England to win @ 11/10 Bet365 A few might think I am mad. I actually think I partially mad myself, however I am going to tip England for the third match in a row. In terms of the series, this is make or break for them and I think the return of KP and Jimmy will give England some much needed stability with both the bat and the ball. We need to win this game and I think beating the Aussies at Adelaide on Australia day will satisfy Strauss/Flower/The England Camp a ridiculous amount. I've said it before and I'll say it again, man-for-man England have a better team than Australia and I personally think we want to win this a bit more tomorow. I'll take this price all day long too. 4pts James Anderson (Player Performance) 32 & Over 5/6 Bet365 Definitely a touch low for me. Jimmy will return to the England fold after a long rest and I'm sure will come straight in to take the new ball. He is an experienced ODI player with 179 wickets in 133 matches for England and I think he can get two here tomorow. He has a pretty impressive record at Adelaide as we saw in the test series and even if he doesn't get two wickets, he is capable of scoring 12 points with the bat and in the field. I don't think that will be needed though. Two wickets is well within his reach and Adelaide is historically a gold-mine for seamers. If England bat second aswell, the ball may do a touch under the lights as well which obviously helps.
Finally a good win for England. Both these came in meaning +7.72 for the ODI. Had a look at Watson's series so far and if my sums are correct, he is sitting on 319 points at the moment making my outright on him look in good shape. Hopefully England win the next one and Watson clears those 31 points needed. Off the top of my head a couple of those came in for Kev and Cramer had a win. Played all round :clap

Skybet's over 4.5 sixes at 4/6 is very tempting for me, however I don't have an account with them. William Hill's sixes line is at Over/Under 5.5 which is again I like but I think I may see if Pietersen lines up before I go in. Good luck to all and lets fxckin hope England pull it together.

  17. Re: Cricket: Australia vs England - 2xT20s & ODI series Jesus England once again throw an ODI away from a winning position and continue to lose me money. Somehow I didn't actually hit 'confirm' on sportingbet with the bet on Shahzad being Top Bowler so I didn't lose as much as originally thought. Lost a heap on England though and annoyingly, they won't win the series now so my outright looks like a dud. The only positive being Watson added another 39pts to his series putting him somewhere around the 250 mark now. Played any winners from yesterday :clap
