  1. Re: Cricket: Friends Life t20 I started poorly yesterday so sitting on -9 at the minute after the Essex and Durham defeats. Hope to pull that back today in the televised game. 3 in total for me. Alviro Peterson vs Scott Newman- Peterson -2.5 handicap- 5/6 Ladbrokes- (4/10) Quite like this batsman match here and I'm back the South African to outscore his opponent here by at least a few runs. The Glamorgan skipper is a pretty decent player with the bat, and has a handy record which boasts a test century on debut, and 4 50s in his 14 one day internationals. He averages over 40 this year in the Championship, largely down to his double century against Surrey a couple of weeks ago, and his day one average is around the 35 mark which isn't a bad return in this Glamorgan side. Newman only has one fifty to his name this season in all forms of the game and his last 4 innings have seen him make scores of 15, 7, 5 and 1. He missed the recent match at Chelmsford so I'm not overly convinced at how confident he is in the middle at the minute. In the Championship match between these two teams a few weeks ago, Petersen outscored Newman in both innings by a fair amount and I'll back him to do the same again later on. Glamorgan over 10.5 4s- 5/6 Ladbrokes- (4/10) Middlesex over 10.5 4s- 5/6 Ladbrokes- (4/10) Taken this bet on a few times this year with mixed success but tonight I see both teams covering the overs. Line just look a tad low to me, on a pitch that has International standards now, with the conditions benefitial to the batsman to a heavy degree. It's a blistering day, and the batsman should be able to hit some runs and hopefully pepper the ropes on numerous occassions. Both teams have some good strikers of the ball, with the likes of Cosgrove, Peterson, Allenby and an in form Rees for the Dragons, whilst Middlesex have the likes of Malan, Rodgers, McLaren and Stirling who are all capable guys who can score runs quickly and fine the boundaries. Those names on top of the likes of Dalrymple, Crook and Wallace just swing me in favour of the overs for both sides here.

  2. Re: Cricket: England vs Sri Lanka Test Series I'm not getting involved in the individual match bets but I have taken one outright for the series after the first match. Jonathan Trott top England series batsman- 6/5 Sportingbet- (5/10) Surprised to see this offered at above evens as opposed to odds on. Trott has been England's most consistent batsman for some time now and we all know that he's the kind of guy who loves to bat and pile on the runs, and when in form, he seems to have a habbit of staying in form. He was recently named England's cricketer of the year showing how much he is valued in this current team who can beat any test team in the world. There's nothing in this Sri Lanka bowling attack for the England batsman to worry about and in the next couple of tests I expect at least 3 of the top 6 to hit centuries and pile the misery on for the Sri Lankan bowlers. The race for the top England batsman is basically down to Trott and Cook in my opinion, unless Strauss, Bell or Pietersen score a double hundred or something but that's unlikely so think we can narrow it down to Cook and Trott. Essentially Trott has a 70 run handicap over Cook, with 2 to play so the Essex man will have to score decent runs in all 4 innings in my opinion. Despite hitting a century at Cardiff, there were a couple of instances towards the start where he played and missed and on another day he could have easily got a nick to. I expect Trott to hit at least one more century in the series. If he gets to 30 or 40, he's a hard man to dismiss so I'm going to back Wawickshire man to lead the run charts come the end of the 3 match series.

  3. Re: Tennis - The French Open I'm getting involved in both semis tomorrow, both of which potentially could be crackers. Rafael Nadal vs Andy Murray- Nadal -6.5 handicap- 5/6 Bet365- (5/10) Feel this will be the less closer semi and have a feeling Nadal is peaking just at the right time and will be too much for Muzza unfortunately. Rafa's game has improved as the week has gone on. He looked extremely out of sorts against Isner and in particular Andujar, but his win over Soderling is the kind of performance we are used to from Nadal on clay. His forehand was working a treat and Soderling really didn't have any answers as you could see Nadal grow in confidence as the match progressed. Murray as much as I want to see a Brit win a grand slam, he hasn't impressed me particularly at any point over the past couple of weeks. He was fortunate that Berrer didn't have a clue how to play against an essentially one legged tennis player and that Troicki choked massively when serving for the match. I'm not worried over his fitness despite his ankle niggle and his epic in the previous round, but I do fear that given Rafa's performance against Soderling, he will be a step too far for Murray and in the end I see him coming through this quite comfortably and reaching the final in a tournament which may as well be called the Rafa slam. Roger Federer vs Novak Djokovic- Federer +5.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (4/10) This is the semi I really can't wait for though and I'm backing the greatest tennis player to match the 2011 champ all the way here. I've watched alot of Federer this week and he has that passion in his game that I haven't seen for a while but when he plays like this, no matter what kind of form you're in, you will be caused problems. He's yet to drop a set this week, and in truth been very comfortable in all of his matches and has yet to be really asked many questions in the previous rounds. We all know what kind of golden patch Djokovic is in, with nobody really being able to match him this year perhaps with the exception of Nadal and also Murray back in Rome a few weeks back. Like Federer, he hasn't had to worry in any of his matches. Even against Del Porto where he dropped a set, you always felt he would have too much in that one for Juan Martin. Despite him having that extra couple of days rest due to Fognini's withdrawal, Roger will also be pumped to go in this one after his defeats to Djokovic this year. He's in better shape and playing better tennis now than he has been going into his previous matches with Djokovic this year and that's why this could be a classic in the making. Roger will want revenge and to show people that he's still one of the very best, whilst Djokovic has his sights on this amazing unbeaten record that he's almost beaten. I'm fancying there to be momentum swings in this one in parts, whilst at other times a very tight and nervy affair. This could well go all the way, but regardless of the final result, I'm backing Federer to at the very least take a set and keep Djokovic within reach for the majority.

  4. Re: Cricket: Friends Life t20 Flipping internet has been down at my uni house all day so wasn't able to to post my selections. Both of them look dodgy now though with Durham on the brink of defeat and Sussex look to be posting a decent score against an Essex team that I backed. On the topic of the 6 overs scores Kev, not sure what Durham got but Wawickshire got 60 in their 6 so it's doubtful that Durham beat that. Just looks like a dodgy day for results today thus far.

  5. Re: Tennis - The French Open

Maybe it's just me but I see no point in typing in-play stuff in here' date=' it's great if people are covering their bets but what does that mean to anyone reading this? Zilch really.[/quote'] Yeah it is hard to follow them. I only did it with my Murray bet as I wanted to keep the P/L up to date. Makes it easier for me to see what I've made or loss when I look back.
  6. Re: Tennis - The French Open

Yea probably not the wisest of words and no offence meant to be caused.:\ However,I have been looking in over the past 3 or 4 days and they have not been great. In fact I saw one guy give 6 tips and 5 of them lost! There's another one from last nite at the top of this page where he's given 5 tips for today, which are pretty much the opposite of what's gonna happen
Professional punter as well as psychic? Look forward to seeing a 100% record from you then.
  7. Re: Tennis - The French Open

First post on Punters Lounge guys,I'm a fulltime punter and have made a profit consistently over past 3 years.I have looked at some of the posts here and no offence but some of the tips are beyond belief, time to put my money where my mouth is and get u guys turning profit! Monfils v Federer number of sets over 3.5 @ 1.90 Bet365 Monfils in front of his home fans, covers the court as well as anyone and has a fantastic return. The type of opponent who can trouble Federer and excellent price
    How modest of you.
  8. Re: French Open livescore thread

Oh I have him on a +5.5 handicap evens - very small stakes though' date=' not even worth a mention...[/quote'] Think you misread your own bets, Never a profitable thing I don't fancy. According to the writeup you did, you took him to win as an outright, and with a 4.5 handicap, not a 5.5. Always good to know your own bets I find.
  9. Re: Tennis - Sport big enough to deserve its own forums? I'm not in favour to be honest. Think it should work a lot more like the football sections where there is a livescore thread. Perhaps there should be one specifically for tennis/snooker as you say, but all of the comments which aren't specifically bets can go in that section. Not sure if anyone else is in accordance with me that alot of the comments are irrelevant and in some cases pointless. These could easily go in a livescore thread along with comments as the matches are taking place. In the tennis section at the minute, the majority of comments aren't actually specific bets with reasoning behind them, or valid discussions about the matches, which perhaps they should be. That's my opinion anyway.

  10. Re: Tennis - The French Open

Did you just say the words "fair" and "play" in the same sentence when remarking on Fognini? LOL! You are having a laugh here Fishy right? He deceived his way to victory on this one. Montanes simply did not know how to react and turned too passive' date=' Fognini should be ashamed of himself. Most likely going to retire vs Djokovic next round, either before or during.[/quote'] Dry humour on my part mate ;)
  11. Re: Tennis - The French Open

Really hope that I can turn it round tomorrow. Gone quite heavy on Federer and taken Monty as well. Thought long and hard about the Monfils handicap but didn't bite in the end. Haven't looked into the women much so just the two men's matches for me. Roger Federer vs Stanislas Wawrinka- Federer -7 handicap- 19/20 Sportingbet- (8/10)- WIN Albert Montanes vs Fabio Fognini- Montanes -3.5 handicap- 5/6 Bet365- (5/10)- LOSS
Federer continues to look impressive bringing the main bet in. Shocking from Montanes, break up in the fourth set and the handicap looked good, goes on to lose against an injured Fognini who could barely move. Unbelievable stuff from Montanes. Fair play to the Italian though. +2.6 for the day thanks to Federer, which pulls my deficit back a little to -2.99. Still hoping I can end on a profit.
  12. Re: Tennis - The French Open Really hope that I can turn it round tomorrow. Gone quite heavy on Federer and taken Monty as well. Thought long and hard about the Monfils handicap but didn't bite in the end. Haven't looked into the women much so just the two men's matches for me. Roger Federer vs Stanislas Wawrinka- Federer -7 handicap- 19/20 Sportingbet- (8/10) The biggest bet of the tournament for me and if it goes wrong, and Fed doesn't come out firing, then my tournament from a punters perspective has been a shocker. I just can't ignore how Federer's been playing this week. He has looked the most impressive and comfortable with his game. Since overcoming Lopez in round 1, he has gone from strength to strength and the win over Tipsarevic was the Federer of old and the best I've seen on him possibly this year. His serving was tight and effective, whilst his backhand wasn't erratic in the slightest which is sometimes the case. He was seeing the ball like a basketball and Tipsarevic couldn't trouble him with any great force at any point in the match. Wawrinka overcame Tsonga in an epic a couple of days ago, and it will be interesting to see how fresh he is for the match against the man who he's always lived in the shadow of. If Stan is suffering from fatigue early doors and has a sloppy first half hour, Federer will pounce and it will be a mighty struggle for Stan from there. Everyone is aware of the H2H between these two, and Stan has a mental problem against Federer. Federer has already beaten him twice this season, including a heavy defeat at the Australian Open where Fed covered the handicap with ease. If he continues his form of this week, Djokovic, let alone Wawrinka would struggle and I fancy Roger to enjoy the match tomorrow and extend his good form this week. Albert Montanes vs Fabio Fognini- Montanes -3.5 handicap- 5/6 Bet365- (5/10) Feel this is the end of the road for the Italian after a week where he's been pretty much untested and comfortable. He's only dropped one set this week in Paris and he has yet to come across a player who has given him problems. Montanes however is a step up in class on the clay courts and he has also only dropped one set this week. He again has been extremely comfortable, even against Youzhny who although is out or sorts at the minute, can still be a danger. He hammered the Russian though and will be fresh to go tomorrow in the morning match. Coming into Paris this week he was out of form a touch but as we've seen from the Spaniard in the past, when he gets some wins together, the momentum he generates means he is a force to be reckoned with on the clay. He was knocked out by Soderling last year in the third round but he'll know this is a huge opportunity to make the quarters of a grand slam for the first time and I'd expect that to be a huge motivation for the Spaniard. He leads the H2H 4-1, winning the last 3, including one back in Casablanca this year, and covering the handicap in the process and I'll back him to repeat that again tomorrow.

  13. Re: Tennis - The French Open

Right 3 for me tomorrow then, hoping I can have a day of profit to make up for a couple of dodgy days. Alexandr Dolgopolov vs Viktor Troicki- Dolgopolov -2 handicap- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10)- LOSS Andy Murray vs Michael Berrer- Over 28.5 games- 5/6 Bet365- (4/10)- LOSS Leonardo Mayer vs Robin Soderling- Tie break to be played- 11/8 Bet365- (3/10)- LOSS
Think my best tip from now on would be not to pay any attention to my tips. Didn't really get Berrer's tactics after Murray picked up that injury. Surely the plan should have been play to his backhand with plenty of dropshots, not play to his forehand with mid court shots. Really strange. -11 for me, just continuing my bad form. So from at one point being up around 18 units, I'm now currently -5.59 for the tournament and beating myself up for some stupid bets I've taken that I've been looking through. Plenty of better people in the forum at the minute so I'd advise looking to them to make some money. Tomorrow's truly make or break day...
  14. Re: Tennis - The French Open Right 3 for me tomorrow then, hoping I can have a day of profit to make up for a couple of dodgy days. Alexandr Dolgopolov vs Viktor Troicki- Dolgopolov -2 handicap- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) Two players who I've backed with handicaps in Paris but I fancy the Ukranian to come out on top here in a match which I'd fancy to be relatively close for the majority. Troicki looked a big jaded towards the end of the third set against Kamke in the last round. He in fact came back from a break down to win the third set tie break and the match, and I believe that a better all round player than Kamke could have caused real problems for the Serb. Dolgopolov, aside from Federer, has looked the most impressive to me in his past couple of matches and he's won both matches in easy straight sets. Like Troicki, the Ukranian will get plenty of cheap points on serve, but in the rallies, it's Dolgopolov's unorthodox style that I'd back to come out on top more often than not. We've seen this year that Dolgopolov can turn it on in the key matches, making the quarters at the Australian Open and I like him here to record his first win against Troicki and if he does so, the handicap is low enough to cover as well. Andy Murray vs Michael Berrer- Over 28.5 games- 5/6 Bet365- (4/10) Still wouldn't fancy Murray with any conviction after watching him against Bollelli and Berrer should be a tricky opponent for the Scot. His lefty angles can always create problems on the tour and we've seen this year he can handle himself against some good opponents. He took a set of Montanes a couple weeks back, whilst pushing Soderling close on two ocassions this year. His first serve is handy and even against Murray, he should be able to pick up some comfortable service games and force a tight set or two. Murray never seems to do things easily these days, especially on clay. He still doesn't look particularly right to me, and although I'd fancy him to come through this comfortably in the end, Berrer should be able to keep things tight for a while if he can serve well and I'll back him to bring the overs in. Leonardo Mayer vs Robin Soderling- Tie break to be played- 11/8 Bet365- (3/10) This is an ambitious one but the price is one I like. Clay often produces a fair number of tie breaks and for the past couple of weeks, Soderling hasn't impressed me. Saw him against Golubev last week and he was outplayed for a fair majority of that match before pulling through, similarly he was average against Querrey as well and took a fair while to get going. He dropped a set against Harrison, and despite beating Ramos-Vinolas comfortably, I still wouldn't fancy the Swede to win this comfortably with any conviction based on what I've seen from him. Mayer has come through qualifiers and has won a total of 5 matches here in Paris which could imply that fatigue should start to creep in, but if he can keep a couple of sets tightish, he could suprise a few people and take one set to a tie break. He has played tie breaks against Brown and also Baghdatis a couple of days ago, so he's no stranger to the long sets. The only time these two players met, was a tightly fought Davis Cup battle which the Swede won 7-5 7-6 7-5. I'll take the Argentinian to keep it tight and hopefully cause a tie break in a set like he did in their last meeting.

  15. Re: Tennis - The French Open

4 for me in the men's draw tomorrow, some already mentioned by Atko. If tomorrow goes to plan though, I'll be a happy bunny with what I've seen this week. Rafael Nadal vs Pablo Andujar- Under 26.5 games- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10)- LOSS Antonio Veic vs Nicolay Davydenko- Under 32.5 games- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10)- LOSS Tobias Kamke vs Viktor Troicki- Troicki -7.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (5/10) WIN Lukas Rosol vs Jurgen Melzer- Under 32.5 games- 4/5 Bet365- (4/10)- LOSS
Sorry for the delay, had my first exam today so mind has been on that. Not going to bother explaining the results as it messes up the flow of the forum. Will say I won't be backing the unders on a Melzer match for a while :lol. -10 for that day, which leaves me on +5.41. Going in the wrong direction now, hope I can pick it up again tomorrow.
  16. Re: Tennis - The French Open 4 for me in the men's draw tomorrow, some already mentioned by Atko. If tomorrow goes to plan though, I'll be a happy bunny with what I've seen this week. Rafael Nadal vs Pablo Andujar- Under 26.5 games- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Similiar to Federer today actually in terms of rarely do I take many bets on Rafa but after coming through against Isner in an epic match by his standards, I'd fancy him to come out of the blocks firing and win this in very comfortable fashion. Nadal over the past couple of years has been known to struggle a touch against the big servers like Isner, but Andujar hasn't got that massive serve to get cheap points and Nadal will dominate this match in every department. Andujar has been hammered by Almagro and Bellucci in the past few weeks and despite his win over in Casablanca, he's struggled for consistency formwise. Just fancy Nadal to be really up for this one and show the crowd why he is the king of clay and can't really see Andujar holding him at bay for too long in this one so unders for me. Antonio Veic vs Nicolay Davydenko- Under 32.5 games- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Gone for unders here instead on the handicap purely on price and I can't see Davydenko not being solid enough here to pick his Croatian opponent off. As Atko mentioned, a 3rd round place for the Russian gives him some handy points in the rankings and he should be too crafty with his shot selections for Veic to cope with. Veic's fatigue must be starting to creep in. Already 4 matches here, none of them short matches in the slightest and with the amount of running he will have to do here, it's doubtful over how long he will be able to cope with Davydenko. Perhaps a tight first set, but after that Davydenko I'd fancy to come through strongly and win this comfortably so like Nadal, I'll back the Russian to cover the unders. Tobias Kamke vs Viktor Troicki- Troicki -7.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (5/10) Will trust Troicki with the handicap here though and he's another guy who should be too strong for his opponent. He beat Reister solidly in the last round, with his serve most impressive and if he plays like he did there, hard to see Kamke matching him. The Serb got a couple of good wins last week over Granollers and Youzhny and he's improved his game in leaps and bounds to sit where he does now in the top 20 in the world. He'll want to maintain that and try to better his third round performance last year. Kamke is quite an erratic player whenever I see him. Can play some good stuff but often just loses focus and sometimes boils over when things aren't going his way. If Troicki serves like he can, fair chance the German will become frustrated and that's where the errors will come from. He's lost to challenger players over the past few weeks and this is a massive step up for him, one which should be way too big for him and the handicap for the Serb looks within reach so I'l take him to win with some to spare. Lukas Rosol vs Jurgen Melzer- Under 32.5 games- 4/5 Bet365- (4/10) Can't believe I'm taking the unders in a Melzer game but from the first round, I saw enough about him to believe his injury that he was carrying has healed and he can take care of the lesser opponents in the early rounds. That's what he did in round one against Beck and hopefully he'll do the same before most probably providing the crowd with some entertaining 5 set matches like he always seems to do. He should have far too much for Rosol though, a guy who narrowly got through Roger-Vasselin in round one, and has played 3 qualifiers before then so again fatigue could creep into his game. When he's played higher ranked opponents this year, ala Sweeting and Simon, he has been comfortably beaten and if Melzer wants to, he can win this in 3 so let's hope he does, whilst doing it in fairly quickish time as well.
