  1. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April

Have to keep in mind that this is the first tournament since US Open for JCF. His match against nobody player Vagnozzi was a nightmare from the stats point of view. He was broken seven times and had 20(!) break points against him and was a break down in the final set as well. Almagro beat him easily in this tournament few years back (6-3' date=' 6-3 in 1/4finals 2006) and could destroy him again, bare in mind Ferrero might have fitness problems having been out for so long and playing such a long match on Thursday. But with Mugro you never know, he is totally brainless and can throw away a set and lose it in the breaker and then win easily the other two sets. The rain which is forecast for tomorrow however might save some time for JCF to get rested.[/quote'] Yeah that crossed my mind with Mugro as well, aways liable to offer gifts to his opponents. Despite the fitness with Ferrero, has the slight edge with the H2H, winning the 2 most recent clashes but of course that came before his long break away. Is the rain meant to be hard and continuous or just a brief stoppage do you know? If it's not too bad, Almagro handicap would interest me over the unders for the reasons mentioned. One I'm waiting to take early is Safina on handicap. Think Bet365 will open up with a (4.5) handicap, and after watching her demolish Cornet today, struggle to see how Pivovarova will cope with the Russian. Love how whenever Safina wins a point these days, she says 'vamos' :lol
  2. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April Guys I've just noticed something within the forum. Although quite a few us post regular tips and do the write-ups for them, there is barely any discussion about the matches. Seem to remember that there used to be a fair amount of talking about the matches that were played and for the upcoming matches the day after. Don't know if some of the followers found these discussions helpful or not to influence what selections to follow, but it just popped into my head after looking through the past tennis forums (can tell I'm on holiday from uni atm as I have nothing better to do than look through the forums :lol) So basically just wanted to see if the regulars and also others who look at the tennis forum feel the discussions are helpful or it's fine as it is with just the tips and write ups. I'll try and kick one off regarding the Almagro Ferrero clash tomorrow. Ferrero very lucky to get through today and surely Almagro should deal with him easily. But part of me thinks Ferrero could well hold his own for the majority of the match, which puts me off the unders.

Jurgen Melzer vs Albert Montanes- Melzer -2.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (5/10) Alize Cornet vs Dinara Safina- Safina -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) .
WIN WIN Nice double win today although Melzer gave his usual performance of being a clown in the first set and saving god knows how many break points. Glad he pulled through though. Nice call on Stosur btw Czech and Psycho :ok
  4. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April Had a look at the prices and taken two. One involving the men and one on the women's side of things over in Fes. Jurgen Melzer vs Albert Montanes- Melzer -2.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (5/10) Not the biggest fan of Melzer but he looks to be playing well enough to take this one. I've backed Montanes in his last two matches with success but this looks like the right time to fade the Spaniard. He struggled against Paire today and against a better and more experienced player, he would have more than likely lost. He struggled on serve, and had to recover from a break down in the final set to eventually win it. Melzer on the other hand demolished Granollers today, continuing on his good form from last week where he beat Almagro and Federer. Melzer leads the H2H 5-2 and unless Montanes ups his game from his previous matchs against Gabashvili and Paire, I'm struggling to see how he will cope with an in form Mezler and I'll back the Austrian to win this one. The handicap is small enough to be covered even if it goes to three sets and if it does go to the third set fatigue will start to kick in with the Spaniard after his epic match today. I reckon Melzer should be fine here though and the form and quality of the Austrian should prevail. Alize Cornet vs Dinara Safina- Safina -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Like Monty in the previous match, I backed Cornet in her match against Hlavackova but Safina is a completely different match up and should have too much power for her. She only lost one game in her rout over Craybas in the previous round so she will be completely fresh for today. Despite her terrible form at the start of the season, she looks to returning to some form. She beat Stosur and Hantuchova back in Indian Wells, and pushed Zvonareva to 3 sets in Miami which looks to have given her the confidence she needed. Her serve isn't as unreliable as it was, with it getting better everytime I see it which is a massive plus for the Russian. Cornet may be a touch fatigued after today in fact. She played a lengthy doubles match earlier which lasted a couple of hours, and her first round match was interrupted by bad light. This isn't the best preparation for her and seeing as her match yesterday was only her second match on the clay courts this year, she will still need court time to adapt, but against Safina she won't be allowed to dictate the rallies or get into any sort of rhythm as Safina will look to hit the winners with her powerful groundstrokes. The Russian has won all 3 matches between the pair, granted they were back when she was peaking but given her current form, she should have enough for Cornet again today and take this one comfortably.

  5. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April

Kei Nishikori vs Rui Machado- Nishikori -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Benoit Paire vs Albert Montanes- Montanes -5.5 handicap- 4/6 Bet365- (5/10) Kevin Anderson vs Victor Hanescu- Anderson +1.5 handicap- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10)
WIN WIN LOSS Anderson blew the perfect day but I'm lucky to come away with some profit there. Monty virtually blew the handicap in the first set I thought but a commanding second set got it back within reach. He then came back from a break in the third to win by the all important 2 game margin in the final set. Phew :cheers
  6. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April Taken 3 in the end after waiting for the prices. Was also planning on taking Monaco and Ferrer with handicaps but price is way too short. Also considered the Shvedova handicap as Smeg mentioned but something in the back of my mind put me off it. Still have the Cornet bet pending as well as she's currently 6-3 5-3 up before they went off due to bad light unbelievably. Hopefully she'll finish the job tomorrow, requiring one of the next two games to cover the handicap. Onto tomorrow then. Kei Nishikori vs Rui Machado- Nishikori -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Took this really early on and the price has since dropped. This week Kei is bidding to become the highest ranked Japanese player in history so that alone should stand as good motivation for him. He kicked off his clay season well last week, making the final in Houston, beating good players like Fish, Cuevas and Andreev. He demolished Riba today before the Spaniard retired at the end of the first set so Kei will be fresh for tomorrow which would have done him good after a long last week. Wouldn't have any confidence in Machado at the minute, even on his favoured clay surface his recent performances have been poor. Losses to Tomic, Roger-Vasselin and Ramirez-Hidalgo don't make for happy reading and I can't see him upping his game enough to cope for Kei today. Should be relatively straight forward for Nishikori and the handicap should be well in reach. Benoit Paire vs Albert Montanes- Montanes -5.5 handicap- 4/6 Bet365- (5/10) Have to favour Monty here and don't expect Paire to give too much today. He's already played 3 qualifiers here, all of which have gone to 3 sets so I'm guessing fatigue must start to kick in with the Frenchman. He hasn't looked convincing in his last two matches, just about snuck through against Ilhan the other day, and he dropped the first set today against the Spanish youngster Busta. Monty is one of the best clay courters around. Backed him against Gabashvili where in truth he didn't have to play anywhere near his best to hammer the Russian. If he wanted to he could have easily bagelled him in one of those sets. Just fail to see how Montanes won't win this in similiar fashion to his first match and the handicap shouldn't really be a problem with the Spaniard. He's covered the handicap against Fognini, Volandri and Malisse recently, should be a similiar result again. Kevin Anderson vs Victor Hanescu- Anderson +1.5 handicap- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) Must admit I was suprised to see big Kev get past Cuevas yesterday but he did and I'll back him to keep it tight and maybe edge this one against a Hanescu who is still a bit hit and miss at the minute. The South African's match against Cuevas was mainly all about serve for the first couple of sets, aside from the double break at the end of the second set to which Cuevas took it to a third. However Anderson recovered well and broke Cuevas straight away in the third and never looked back. That says to me that he wants a run this week and will put himself about on the court. Granted his serve isn't as effective as it would be on the ad courts, but if it's on song, he will stil be able to pick up some cheap points. Hanescu got some wins under his belt over in Casablanca but then had a disappointing loss to Gonzalez in Monte-Carlo. He easily beat Golubev but that was expected as he is having a poor year. Anderson will be a completely different match for the Romanian and I'd fancy Kev to nick a set here if not the match. They played back in Auckland this year where Hanescu narrowly won the third set. Anderson will be looking for revenge and if Hanescu goes missing for a set, the handicap could come into play. It just provides a bit more security than the outright so hopefully big Kev can serve well and put pressure on Hanescu.

  7. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April Got some revision and stuff to do tomorrow so only taking one on. Alize Cornet vs Andrea Hlavakova- Cornet -4.5 handicap- 4/5 Bet365- (5/10) Don't back Cornet alot of the time but feel tomorrow she should be fine. Hlavakova has only one win in her last 8 matches and it's not like she's played world beaters in that time. Azarenka aside, losses against Watson, Chan and Paszek have led to her confidence being ripped to shreads which was evident when she couldn't close out her last match against Zahlavova Strycova a couple of weeks back in Charleston. Cornet last year showed what a handy player she can be on clay. She made a couple of WTA semi finals, including here in Fes, meaning she'll have some points to defend. Granted her last couple of matches haven't been entirely encouraging but due to her opponent's lack of form, I'd fancy Cornet to have too much for her tomorrow and the (4.5) handicap looks attainable for the youngster.

  8. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April

:lol No sooner in saying that I've taken a further two. Lots of different bets around today, should be an interesting day. Kevin Anderson vs Pablo Cuevas- Cuevas -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Fabio Fognini vs Simone Vagnozzi- Over 21.5 games- 5/6 Bet365- (4/10)
LOSS VOID Stupid Fognini retiring. That one if it had come through would have near enough broke me even. As it is a small loss.
  9. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April

Just the one more for me then today over in Stuggart. Kristina Barrois vs Lucie Safarova- Over 20.5 games- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10)
LOSS Not sure what happened in the first set but Safarova killed the bet that's for sure. Had a couple of chances in the second to take it to a third set but alas.
  10. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April :lol No sooner in saying that I've taken a further two. Lots of different bets around today, should be an interesting day. Kevin Anderson vs Pablo Cuevas- Cuevas -3.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (5/10) Agree with Atko on this one. Would be a completely different match on a quicker surface but on the clay, Anderson doesn't get as many cheap points through his serve due to the slower conditions which in truth, takes away a large chunk of his threat. Atko also alluded to the big man's movement on the clay which isn't easy for the South African but he'll be forced to move around quite a bit today as Cuevas should dominate the majority of points. He had a decent week in Houston, making the semis whilst Anderson has only played one match on the clay this year, losing to Fognini in Monte-Carlo. Cuevas should have too much for big Kev here and a break in both sets would ensure the handicap. Fabio Fognini vs Simone Vagnozzi- Over 21.5 games- 5/6 Bet365- (4/10) Only one thing that Fognini matches say to me at the minute- overs. Amazingly, 17 of his 21 matches have covered the overs which even for the most stamina endurant man in the world is an incredible stat. His results in truth have been good though. Made the semis in Santiago and the quarters in Casablanca were pretty good efforts by the Italian. His Italian counterpart has already won a couple of qualfiers in Barcelona so he'll have adjusted to the conditions by now and should give Fognini a game like he has done in the pair's past 2 meetings in 06 and 07 which Vagnozzi actually won both times. The main thing there though is that both matches went to 3 sets like so many of Fognini's matches. Everything to me screams overs here and I'll take it and hope the trend of lengthy matches continues.

  11. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April Just the one more for me then today over in Stuggart. Kristina Barrois vs Lucie Safarova- Over 20.5 games- 10/11 Bet365- (4/10) Took the overs between these two a few weeks back and it was covered with ease and happy to back it again today. Safarova is yet to play on the clay this year so she'll need time to adjust to the surface in Germany which could take some time. The German won one match over in Marbella before getting beat by Errani but I'd fancy her enough her to make it competitive like she has done in the 2 meetings between the players. Both matches have gone to 3 sets, with each player winning one a piece. Fancy it to be another tight one here and one tie break in either set could near enough cover the overs itself.

  12. Re: Tennis - 18-24 April I'm taking one for now, maybe some more in the morning. Teymuraz Gabashvili vs Albert Montanes- Montanes -4.5 handicap- 11/10 Bet365- (5/10) Price has just dropped to evens on this one a minute ago and expect it to fall quite a bit more over the coming hours. Fancy the Spaniard here on his favoured surface over a Gabashvili who really hasn't got going this year in the atp events, nor in the challengers. He got beat by Sweeting last week and before that a guy ranked outside he top 300 beat him on the clay which was an extremely poor result for the Russian. He can often go missing in matches with his mental state of mind being vulnerable at times and Montanes is extremely content on the clay and should pick him off. He hasn't been at his best this season but he has beaten the likes of Fognini and Malisse on the clay, both players who I'd fancy over Gabashvili. They've played twice, both won in straight sets by the Spaniard, and he hammered the Russian on clay back in 08, losing just 3 games that day. Wouldn't be a massive suprise if something similiar was repeated. Handicap at a good price for the Spaniard looks decent to me.

  13. Re: Tennis - 11-17 April

I'm with Czech on this, and fancy Nadal, all be it with a riskier selection. Rafael Nadal vs David Ferrer- Nadal -5.5 handicap- 5/4 Bet365- (4/10) No way in hell I fancy Ferrer at all today. I might be completely wrong and pig-headed for saying this, but Ferrer should have no chance today. Granted Nadal had an epic with an 'injured' Murray but he came through it playing some good stuff in my opinion. Murray played out of his skin to take a set of Nadal. Some of the returns he hit were top drawer and although Ferrer is a class returner as well, I wouldn't have backed him to get back some of the balls Murray did. Watched alot of Ferrer this week and he's not been in the same league as Nadal, not even close. His serve has been extremely errratic which is unusual for the Spaniard and on the second serve, he has thrown in a double fault to follow on a regular basis. The only reason Melzer didn't push him harder was due to his poor attitude on court. That first set should have really been his if truth be told. But he just let the momentum shift and threw in a bag of unforced errors. He didn't save any break points whilst Ferrer saved 8/9 on his serve. Nadal with his powerful forehand could prove the main problem for Ferrer today as although he will get to the ball, the strength of the man isn't huge and he could well drop it into mid-court and be punished. Nadal has covered this handicap on the last 6 meetings on clay between the two men from Spain so I don't see what has changed. The handicap isn't a guarantee, of course it isn't, but at above evens, feel I have to take this one for the king of clay.
LOSS Still felt I had to take it otherwise should it have come in I would have been annoyed. Thought Nadal would kick on when he got that early break in the second set but wasn't to be. Good week in the forum though. Good week for me individually overall as well as I backed Ballabriggs in the national last week. Bring on Barca.

  15. Re: Snooker: World Championships Dw Russ mate you'll bring it back, think everyone who follows these forums knows that. I'm taking one today and it's the same bet as you so let's hope it sparks a comeback ;) Stephen Hendry vs Joe Perry- Hendry -1.5 handicap- 5/6 Bet365- (5/10) Like Hendry in the early rounds this year and as Russ mentioned, his history with this place is remarkable. 7 times a winner, 2 runner ups and 12 semi appearences to go with it shows his fondness for the Crucible. Okay he may not be the player he once was, but he's still a class act when on form, shown through his 147 back here in 09 and another maximum in the Welsh Open. He beat Perry 4-0 then and in his early rounds, Hendry is quite a quick starter in terms of most. His last two tournaments, in China and also Wales, he whitewashed his first round opponents on both ocassions. I'd expect to play even better in Sheffield given his affection and take this one by at least a couple of frames.

  16. Re: Tennis - 11-17 April

I'll take a few today. Agreed with Psycho on a couple, even though he was drunk ;) Olivier Rochus vs Tomas Berdych- Berdych -4.5 handicap- 8/11 Bet365- (6/10) Ernests Gulbis vs Milos Raonic- Raonic +2.5 handicap- Evens Bet365- (4/10) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Ivan Ljubicic- Ljubicic to win- 6/4 Bet365- (4/10)
WIN WIN WIN Full house today. Gulbis went on a sulk after a point went against him in the first set for an apparant double bounce. Ljubicic recovered well as Psycho mentioned and the Berdych-Rochus affair was a good one to watch but Berdych always having another gear to step into when in trouble. Just hope Chelsea can overcome the 1-0 deficit tonight for a perfect day :cheers
