  2. Re: Jumps Season 08/09 - Antepost Bets & Horses To Follow triumph-hurdle--leathal-weapon-16/1 this horse seems to have been overlooked even though he was a bit quirky on the flat, his trainer[c.roche] as said jumping as made a man of him .he as won all three of his starts over hurdles including the grade 1 durking juvenile hurdle at leopardstown, progressing each time and will go to cheltenham a fresh horse he also as more phisical scope than the other irish juvenile hurdlers and as in the past there is no man better at producing one on the big day as roche

  3. Re: Ascot 14th Feb (Valentines) No problems are expected at either Ascot or Haydock. Speaking on Friday afternoon, Ascot's clerk of the course Chris Stickels said: "We have still got heavy ground. The weather forecast for tonight is -2C, so the frost covers will be down and providing the forecast is correct we don't anticipate any problems." Stickels, who said that the forecast for Saturday is for a dry day added the second last fence in the straight will be omitted, while a decision on whether to omit the last will be made prior to racing. Haydock clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright was calling the ground heavy on the chase course and soft, heavy in places on the hurdle course on Friday afternoon. He said: "The weather is mild today and we are expecting no frost tonight." Gowran has also escaped the worst of the weather and although the going is heavy, racegoers can look forward to the return on Nicanor in the beginners' chase

  4. Re: Best Bet of the Day 9/2 hope meetig goes ahead- Officials at Wolverhampton have announced a precautionary inspection for 7.30am ahead of Monday afternoon's all-weather meeting. Clerk of the course Fergus Cameron said on Sunday afternoon: "Having got a revised weather forecast they are talking about heavy snow late this afternoon and into this evening, with a frost followed by a plus two tomorrow. "With that in mind we will have to have a look in the morning."

  5. Re: Denman Denman will be freshened up and prepared to defend his totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup crown without another outing after suffering a rare reverse on his seasonal debut at Kempton. His 23-length defeat by Madison Du Berlais was the nine-year-old's first loss over fences in 10 starts, and saw him deposed at the head of the betting for the blue riband. His stablemate and 2007 winner Kauto Star replaced him as favourite in the ante-post markets, but Nicholls reports the 13-times winner to have emerged from his first outing in 11 months in good order. Nicholls said: "He has come out of the race fine. His heart was checked after the race was that was normal and he ate up on Saturday night. "I've of the same opinion as Saturday about his run in that it was a satisfactory comeback but he does need to improve. "The plan is no different as if he had won and we will prepare him for Cheltenham now." However, his defeat has not made a tilt at the John Smith's Grand National any more or less likely, with the weights for the world-famous handicap set to be unveiled in London on Tuesday. "I am not going to rule the National in or out," Nicholls added. "He has an entry and I will discuss it with (owners) Paul Barber and Harry Findlay. "We will have to see how he is this week and how things work out."

  6. Re: Denman nicholls says kauto star is the one to beat after denmans poor run Nicholls was visibly downbeat about the defeat of Denman - who failed for just the second time in his 15-race career to finish triumphant. While Nicholls admitted the early-season problem with his heart had necessitated a different training regime, he was not offering any excuses. "He has run a satisfactory race without running a brilliant race," he reflected. "It was good to get him out and we are happy enough with him. "He has jumped and galloped and the run will bring him on, but he hasn't won and the writing was on the wall a long way from home. "We have done our best and he will improve a bit for the run but to be honest what you see today is what you get - he isn't going to improve enormously. "He wasn't distressed in any way. We will get him checked but have been monitoring him all of the way along and his heart hasn't given him any bother at all." His powerful Gold Cup success came after his win in this race last season, run under its usual guise of the Aon Chase at Newbury, and Nicholls proffered the view that his blue riband success may have seen the horse peak in a manner which is now history. He admitted: "The Gold Cup was the end of 14 runs and he might have reached a pinnacle that day. "We have got to accept he might not be as good as he was. The Gold Cup got to the bottom of him and he took a lot of time to get over it. "I couldn't have run him anywhere after it and if you watch the replay he got very tired, and then we had the heart problem when he came back in. "He has never been a horse who would show you a great deal at home, so he hasn't been any different there. "He wasn't at his brilliant best today and he does need to improve - there is no point saying otherwise. "He's got to improve between now and Cheltenham - it is quite possible that last year was the once-in-a-lifetime performance from him and he might not produce that again, especially after the problems he has had. "We have just got to go to the next race now and see if he does improve." Denman is now as big as 4-1 with the sponsors for the totesport Gold Cup, while stablemate, 2007 winner and last year's runner-up Kauto Star is just 5-4 at the head of the market with Ladbrokes. Nicholls added: "Kauto Star will be the one to beat in the Gold Cup. He has won the King George and has come back to form. "I was hoping Denman would whistle round

  7. Re: Kempton 07/02/09 2-15 kempton-thursday knight- looked progresive at the end of last season, and can win here.he won very easy at plumpton 2 starts ago,but on his last run he finished 2nd to 0ld brigade, that race came to soon,so providing hes fit to do himself justice on this is first run since november then he should take all the beating especially as he will handle the ground

  8. Re: Jumps Season 08/09 - Antepost Bets & Horses To Follow muirhead--e/way-generally 33-1 for the champion hurdle the jockey whowas in the saddle for his last run when second to brave inca in the irish champion hurdle over did the waitng tactics, the race was run in desperate conditions, but muirhead travelled like a dream as the field began its turn into the straight the jockey was pulling double while brave inca was being pushed along like a mule,if the jockey kicked on then the result would have been diffrent,he was fancied for the supreme novice hurdle last year, but he travelled from irelandthat time and didnt eat up and i think connections are sure not to makethem mistakes again muirheads stable mate jered seems better going right handed and lacks experience of cheltenham its true that binocular is the one to beat, osana ran a good race not so long ago but he is surely a sitting duck racing from the front as for crack away jack was over hyped in the autumn and may be better over futher
