  2. Re: Cash Game Challenge 4 Life New year new grind. For the last month though i was preparing for an extra special grind this year, i was planning for Supernova Elite, but unfortunately Stars moved the goalposts just 2 days before the new year. Under their new terms i was going to have to play 20% more hands for the same amount of VPPs, and when i'm already planned to play 8-9hrs a day under the old system playing any more wasn't possible. I was really looking forward to the challenge of getting SNE, i planned to chart the progress in a new thread only here on PL and get in that select band of 2-300 people who make SNE every year but it's not to be but it's no problem, just like any obstacle we face in life we have to adapt and move on. So i weigh up my options and it turns out there are many. From tournament grinder to HUSNG to 6max cash to full-ring cash on different sites etc i wrote down 7 different options i had available. An eighth option has just become available as a well-known staking company has accepted my application for staking which i made as a contingency plan. Haven't spoken to them yet but i have a few ideas that could work out. In the mean time i'm going back to 6max cash at OnGame so wish me luck.

  3. Re: Ask Liv Boeree! Liv, you became very good friends with vanessa selbst and then you started winning a ton of tournaments. Does selbst know the devil? and did you sell your soul? etc.

  4. Re: The future of fullring poker When FullTilt was near its pomp there was a definite move towards shorter handed tables and deeper stacks. If they were able to progress things at the same rate i'm sure within a year the most popular games would be 4 handed maybe with antes. Within 2years i think the minimum buy-in would be 100bbs with 200bb games being the norm. After 'black friday' though PokerStars holds all the cards and their pro roster is nearly all tournament player based so i don't see the cash game scene changing for the foreseeable future. FullTilt were the innovators in this area, mainly fuelled by their high-profile stars such as Ivey, Durrrr and Patrik but full-ring is absolutely here to stay for 2yrs at least. 5yrs? impossible to predict.

  5. Re: Facebook poker .... for real cash!! Being pedantic but 'if it's implemented correctly we're all going to get very rich' i.e. good rake structures, anonymity for players, stakes up to 1000nl. Can't help but feel the highest stakes will be like 5nl and you'll only be able to 1 table. If, PokerStars are able to have influence over the running of the games then yes... welcome to flavour country :drums

  6. Re: How many games before you know if you're a good or bad player? If we want to get technical (and honest) the end game in SNGs all revolves around maths, specifically ICM. That won't have to be learned at the micro-stakes but knowing shoving ranges and how your hand does against that range is a good place to start, so the skill is in getting a good win% in your flips, the outcomes of the flips is the luck.

  7. Re: +EV HU Super-Turbos by Nade Think i'll have to move on from these, the hourly is just not worthwhile, playing at 1% EV ROI is just $3/ph. The last 12days i've been at 2.5% but the intention was always had to be to play $30+ but i don't have the bankroll to test over the long term whether i can make a decent hourly there having already had a 50BI swing at the 30's last month. Pretty much i'll be biding my time over the next few weeks waiting for the holiday season to kick in on PKR and hopefully will make a few thousand like last year. May grind some cash on Stars again before then but i don't know. The thought of grinding myself into the ground for Stars bonuses again, sounds strangely appealing. Money is money, after all. This is all my play at HU hyper-turbos $15s and $30s 3096eef.jpg

  8. Re: +EV HU Super-Turbos by Nade Cheers guys. First week is +EV and running very good. Started off the month playing so awful, it was only a couple of minor things i had to change like simply just being a bit more patient and the results picked back up, want more volume next week too. 59u80w.jpg

  9. Back on the wagon. To keep it brief: I got Supernova in mid August, have played over half a million hands on Stars alone this year virtually break-even but up a few k with bonuses. Also up a couple of k on PKR and RHP. I've been playing full-ring for the last few months on Stars to grind VPPs and often i was playing 16-24 tables almost exactly break-even so it was fine could just grind out the bonuses but it got incredibly dull. Seeing the same names every day doing the same things, i tried to implement new strategies every day to keep myself interested but eventually i just got burnt out and got to the point where everything associated with poker strategy seemed like the most boring thing on earth. I still can't stand the thought of poker strategy, actually. So i look to HU as it feels like an exciting form of poker. Have had success going back years at HUSNGs so lets try super-turbos. They're extremely math orientated so i am at a disadvantage to those who know the math very well, but i'm at an advantage against those who don't play poker well. Also my math has improved massively over the last yr and after learning math has a big role in how the world works it is a more interesting subject to me so i don't mind learning the poker math to be honest. Last month i played nearly a thousand $15 and $30 HU super-turbos running nearly a thousand dollars below EV. I feel EV is really significant in HU as there's just one other opponent so that eliminates so many other variables which influence how you run. I didn't look at any strategies i just dove into the games with the goal of being +EV and i succeeded. Basically what happened is i started at the $15's - i ran 30BI below EV, so naturally i had had enough. So i moved up to the $30's and i crushed the first 300 but running above EV, however the next 350 i've run 35BI below EV. Variance is fun. So i exercise some BR management and go back to the $15's though i was +EV at the $30's i just feel i can learn a lot more about these games at a lower limit and be able to sustain the swings. My EV ROI at $15's is 5% after 310 games this is probably not sustainable but i just plan to put in volume this month and learn a lot about strategies. I just take each game as it comes, focus on being +EV in each game and hope for the best. This is my graph of the $15's, it looks nice but it won't last. My aim for the month is to be +EV, preferably with a good hourly and i think documenting it here will hopefully bring me some much needed luck so give me some good karma and all that bollocks ;) 2i0pzqf.jpg

  10. Re: GUKPT Coventry I just finished like 37th, was a good experience, had the chip leader on my right on day2 where i started with 26BBs, won some flips lost some flips gg.

  11. Re: Heads Up - Rake Absolutely, i'd take all money off Merge, and there were rumours of liquidity issues with Lock Poker in terms of having to delay withdrawals as they didn't have the cash.

  12. Re: Dumb Tournament Plays You're just as likely to hit 2 pair with A5 as 65 is the point. Low suited-connectors don't play well in big pots as you're infinitely more likely to be against a hand that has you crushed, instead hands that make big flushes, big straights and big pairs are way better to play in 3/4bet pots unless you know your opponent is that tight he specifically will only 3bet QQ/KK/AA then there can be implied odds on set/mining or calling with SCs depending on the price. Also it's infinitely rare that you actually flop a perfect board that gives you straight and flush draws which make you a favourite. Everything depends on how you play OOP. If a plan is just to flop a big draw and be done with the hand then low SCs is a losing play as you're not going to flop anything nearly all the time. So i'd prefer to call with SCs in position, or 4bet bluff them and call with hands like A5s instead which have a much better chance of winning a big pot.

  13. Re: Dumb Tournament Plays

If Dave had position on his opponent then I would agree with you, but I think the hand is very difficult to play out of position. Even if you think your opponent is 3-betting light, you don't have that much equity with A5s. It might only cost 3.5BB to call preflop, but it's gonna cost you more when you miss the flop (unless you check-fold, which is hardly going to stop your opponent 3-betting light). The only flops likely to win you a lot of chips are (5,5,x), (2,3,4) or two pair when your opponent holds AK or AQ. Everything else that hits you looks scary as hell to your opponent.
You may only win a big pot if you hit a small % of boards but that’s exactly the same for every hand you play. If we want to stop our opponent 3betting light we 4bet more – that can be just widening our value range to like KQ or A5s or we can polarize to nuts/air like 54s or 98o etc. and adjust depending on what we know they defend with, People 3betting light isn’t too much of a problem ,it doesn’t matter if we call one here with A5s and lose a small pot, also it’s not like we’re going to stack off with 1 pair so there’s no real issue. It’s not bad to call and lose because it gives the impression you can be run over – opponent may continue to 3bet light and then we call them down lighter given what we did before. Also we can just tighten up our 4betting range instead of getting into wars, make it seem as if we will 4bet bluff but instead we just have the goods, let opponents level themselves – instant profit. The basic point is so long as we don’t spazz out with 1pair post flop then we can call with a ton of hands, but infrequently, and not worry about being ‘outplayed’ or whatever, it’s not cost much of our stack and gives the opponent a false impression of what they think they can do vs us.
