    Dance Legend 4.00 Pontefract (E.Way 12/1 PP)

Dance Legend is a daughter of Derby winner Camelot and ran in Group 3 company last time out. Most of the other horses are stepping up into listed class. Dance Legend has competed at this level before.

    Sprakle Roll 3.40 Ascot (E.Way 22/1 Bet365)

Sparkle Roll was favourite to beat Frankellina and Fresnel in the Musidora (Group 3) at York but was behind both. Watching the replay she was stopped dead in her tracks and she can reverse those placings with a clear run.

    Cold Stare 16.10 Haydock (E.Way 14/1 Bet365)

The Haydock Dash will be anything but a sprint. With the going heavy I am going for a horse with stamina that has been running over further. When others are emptying, Cold Stare should be finishing well.

    Munitions 14.55 Longchamp (E.Way 12/1 PP)

Jockey  M Barzalona will always be remembered for his early celebration on Pour Moi in the 2011 Derby. This year he and trainer A Fabre have already won 3 Group races together including a Group 3 with this horse. The only concern is the going described as heavy, but Munitions has won two races on good to soft.

Congratulations to the all winners of the April Nap and knockout competitions, you bragging rights are well deserved and a big thank you to the organisers and PL.
Now to make a good start to May.

Primeiro Boy 17.15 Pontefract (Eway 16/1 PP)

As a two year old Primeiro Boy ran mainly over 5f. The extra distance and uphill Pontefract track may suit him based upon his breeding link to New Approach (Derby Winner 2008). He will strip a lot fitter following his comeback run following his winter break which can be ignored. Trained by Richard Fahey (won this race last year) Primeiro Boy could be there are thereabouts.

LeMale welcome, I am sure you will enjoy PL. Thank you for your kind words. I enjoy studying form and trends, but I still find it hard to find a winner. Good luck with your selections.

    Atletico 20.10 Thirsk (25/1 PP)
On boxing day Atletico (rated 99) was a few lengths behind AW sprint champion Kachy in a class 2 over 6f. Now four months on he is rated just 65 and runs in a class 6. Yes he has not won in 21 races but he has never run in class 6. His last two races were in class 3 and 4 races.

    Seeing Red 16.35 Sandown (E.way 50/1 PP)

Sea the stars is a top middle distance sire and his charges should always be noted. Unfortunately he has sired four runners in this field. A low draw has been beneficial in the Group race over the same distance so I am taking a chance on Seeing Red (Drawn 2). Bought for £200k in October 2017 he made a promising debut against more experienced rivals in a Kempton maiden. He is being overlooked as he is not trained by a fashionable stable. Though I believe Amanda Perrett is very capable.

Just That Lord 14.10 Epsom (Win 13/2 Bet 365)

The Epsom 5f track really suits out and out speedsters so it’s worth noting horses with good course form. One horse who goes well here is Just That Lord who has been placed in all three runs at this track 2,3,3.  His efforts on the All Weather this winter can largely be ignored due to the courses having turns (unsuitable to his running style). On this straight downhill Epsom track he should go very close.

    Sumkindofking 2.40 Kempton (Win 7/1 Bet365)

With over £30k to the winner, the 2.40 Kempton staying chase should be ultra-competitive. For that reason, I have eliminated some of the more fancied horses as their good form is in lesser races, this will be a lot tougher for them. Other horses can be ruled out based upon their age and the going. One horse who will relish the good ground is the top weight Sumkindofking who is a regular in these tough handicaps. Tom George’s young son Noel is the horse’s regular pilot and his 7lb claim will help ease the burden.

    Breathless Times – 13.30 Lingfield (Win 13/2 Bet365)

Breathless Times is sired by the ultra-game Group horse Bated Breath and is on the same mark as his last C&D success. I have stressed before the importance of a good jockey in apprentice races and Cameron Noble rides Lingfield particularly well. His success rate around this track of 21% is better than W Buick 19%, J Spencer 17% and J Fanning 17% all excellent jockeys. With a good jockey, an excellent trainer in Roger Charlton and a fair draw Breathless Times could be successful.

    Stringybark Creek – 16.10 Nottingham (E.Way 14/1 PP)

Is an experienced class 5 handicapper with a record which includes running at Royal Ascot as a two year old. He has won eight times and has an impressive course record 2,3,2,1 and 6.  His last two races were both class 4 but over distances not ideal. Back in class 5, back at Nottingham and over his best distance, he could surprise if fit enough.

    Percy Alexander 18.00 Wolverhampton (Win 8/1 Bet365)

In his last race, following a slow start, “Percy A” was just getting going when the race was over.
Inexperienced with just four runs, the addition of first time blinkers and the extra 1.5f suggest it’s time to get serious.
Sired by a Derby winner, middle distances can only be to the benefit of “Percy”.
Could not resist, good luck all and enjoy the national. PercyP

Withoutdestination  19.30 Wolverhampton (Win 10/3 Bet Victor)

Withoutdestination did not run as a two year old and he was pretty clueless in his first two races
this year. However, in his last race over 12f at Newcastle, the penny started to drop and he showed some
potential. Further improvement can be expected.

Thank you Billy for a very enjoyable first month. Lots of placed horses but still looking for that first winner. I think I might of found it with a son of Oasis DDreamwho is also related to Gallieo. His 3 runs todate were just for experience and a big improvemeand can be expected in 2019.

    Last Page 20.00 Kempton (Bet365 7/1)
Rated 94 as a two year old, Last Page competed with listed sprinters but his future could be over further. Following a change of trainer and a six month break, he returned to this track in January where he was well supported over 6f and only just failed to land the gamble by a nose. His only other run this year was at Lingfield where he tried 7f for the very first time and only gave way in the final few yards. With this experience under his belt and rated just 79, he should be race fit to do himself justice.

    Sunday's tip is INSTINGTIVE 4.25 Carlisle (5/1 Bet 365).
A Course and distance winner who has been running in better class races than this.
