Snooker: Shanghai Masters 2009

The 1st ranking event of the season begins in Shanghai in the morning. I'm not going to copy the outright prices in here because they always come out really messy. I'll go with 1 outright though. 1pt ew A.Carter to win Shanghai Masters 16/1 Betfred (1/2 1,2) With Ricky Walden the defending champion in this event, there is a very lop sided draw for the opening ranking event of the season. O'Sullivan, Higgins and Selby are all in a terrifying looking bottom half of the draw. The main beneficiary of that, I believe is Ali Carter. Carter has really shown his consistency over the last couple of seasons and importantly he broke his ranking event duck when he picked up the Welsh Open last year. There isn't another top 8 player in his quarter of the draw and even a top seed in Maguire in the 2nd quarter will have other things on his mind after the remains of the betting scam which reared it's head again last week. It's always tricky betting in a competition where there's no real form to go by but with a smooth draw on paper, Carter is my pick this week.
