The 1st of 2 snooker tournaments in successive weeks begins tomorrow in the redesigned Malta Cup.

This tournament isn't a ranking event. It's the top 16 minus O'Sullivan and Davis and 6 wildcards. Two home wildcards in Tony Drago and Alex Borg and 4 non 16 wild cards in Marco Fu, Joe Perry, Dominic Dale and Joe Swail. Instead of it being a straight knockout the 20 men have been split into 4 groups of 5 with everyone playing each other once over the best of 6 frames. The group winners then go into the semi finals which are best of 11 before a best of 17 frame final.
