Who the beep is Tony Adam
Hi, I have just been reading through the Racing Post and have a query about graded handicap races. How is that some 'Class 6 handicaps' on the flat are given the parameters of say 46-58 and another class 6 would be graded 48-60. There is also examples of this in jump racing where a class four handicap chase would be graded 0-110 whilst another class 4 graded 0-115. Is this difference caused by differing lengths of races (e.g. a class 4 2m h'cap hurdle is given different rating parameters to a class 4 2m 4 h'cap hurdle). Also how are maiden races split into both class 4 and 5. If a horse is a newcomer to the racetrack how is it graded into a maiden races. Sellers and claimers also show different grades - what are the requirements of each Any help would be great!
Who the beep is Tony Adam
Re: Graded Handicaps Hi again, After a bit of research I have found the answer to why there are different graded maidens and claiming races - prize money. I still cannot understand why there is a disparity in the ratings used in the different handicap classes - some class sixes have a band from 46-58 and others from 43-55 etc. Anyone able to explain?
