Each-way Betting

Recommended Posts

Im just getting into horse racing/betting and was looking at EW betting and wasnt quite sure how to take it! What do the different types mean? e.g. 1/4 1,2,3 or 1/5 1,2,3 What percentage is put on each bet and what difference does the 1/5 or 1/4 make? :unsure Can anybody help me in my day of need?! Thanks :)

Re: Each-way Betting Here's an example. Suppose you place a £10 EW bet on a horse at 20/1. Then your total stake is 2x£10 = £20. If the terms are 1/4 1,2,3, that means you have a £10 bet on the horse to win at 20/1, and a £10 bet on the horse to come in the first 3 ("1,2,3") at odds of 5/1 (5 being 1/4 of 20). So if the horse wins, you get a return of £270 (£210 from the win bet and £60 from the place bet). If the horse finishes second or third, you get a return of £60 from the place bet and nothing from the win bet. If the terms are 1/5 1,2,3, then it's the same except that you only get odds of 4/1 on the place bet (4 being 1/5 of 20). So if it wins the return is £260 (= £210 + £50), and if it comes second or third, the return is £50.
