OK 6ooner and I have just booked our flights for Vegas in December :cow :cow :nana :nana :cow We're now looking for hotels. Want something good - but budget may not stretch to the likes of the Wynn or Bellagio :cry. Bally's and the Luxor are both looking like winning options at the moment - but as we've never been out there before thought some of you guys might have some recommendations of places to head for (or avoid!!). Look forward to hearing all your opinions :ok

:welcome Snowy! Two words for you: 'Mandalay Bay'. Not as expensive as you may think and absolutely superb (have a look at their Website for prices). Stayed here for 5 nights for $700, (so about £80 a night, and thats for the room, not per person) and worth every cent. I have never stayed in a better hotel. Even if you don't stay there, check out the Raffles Cafe. Great food, and big portions, and reasonable prices. We even shared meals there they were that big. Try the Halibut and Fries. Wonderful!!! Avoid Excalibur like the plague!. Luxor is OK, but it's only a tiny bit more to stay at the Bay, and far better.

Re: Vegas Trip Definitely avoid the Excalibur - unless all you want is very cheap room rates as you are only using it for sleeping. Full of couples with kids. However I did like their el cheapo limit poker. Mandalay and Luxor are both in same chain as Excalibur (and connected by a train) and both are superior to the Excalibur (20 to 40 dollars a day difference). All three are at one end of the strip (the end towards Los Angeles I think) - if you want to be more in the middle then the Bellagio or Venice are better. Monte Carlo has the advantage of its own brewery and their beer even though cold and American is not tasteless.

Re: Vegas Trip Personally me and the wife found the rooms in the luxor spot on, my only problem is that its a little walk to the centre of the strip - but not that far, plus not too keen on the luxor card room - if youve got the cash the MGm might be a good choice - more towards the middle of the strip, modern and better card room. For poker aloan stay down town, worse for nights out but better card rooms

Re: Vegas Trip

Me, Jeffers & Kotp stayed in the MGM last September and it is HUGE! :eek Something along the lines of 4 restaurants, 4 bars and 4 theatres inside is a rough idea. :lol
I was always brought up to believe that size wasn't everything;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Re: Vegas Trip I was watching a documentary about Vegas on TV and it seems that the Lady Luck is a good place to stay if you are planning on returning as they offer 100% of the money you gambled back. Two weeks after staying they send you a letter with the amount you can claim and offer you a discounted or sometimes free room rate. There is another hotel where you get 60% off if you ask for the poker rates. Not sure the name of the casino- it was in pokerplayermag.

Re: Vegas Trip I heard a rumour from some friends who live in Vegas, the the Venetian only has suites ... sort of sets the standard. But the two times I have been I stayed at the Luxor (Nov 2005) and at Treasure Island (Jan 2006) ... Both of them are ok ... if you just want a place to sleep. My personal favorite is the Luxor, due to the theme and the whole contruction - its amazing ....

Re: Vegas Trip I realy liked the Luxor, great pool complex, good bars and rooms, if you do go, spend the extra $20 and get a corner room with the jacuzzi. But it's a bit far south on the strip, it's like the second last hotel, only the MB is further south. If you've never been before I'd advise central strip and for value it's got to be The Flamingo. Right across the street from the Bellagio and Ceasers, it's slap bang in the middle of everything. Decent low limit tables as well.
