April 2025 Trainers to Follow

April brings an exciting month with the start of the flat turf season and big festivals at Aintree and Punchestown.

A really poor start to the year means we sit at (£166.00) LSL after the first quarter.  This time last year I was around (£28.00) LSL, it's going to be hard to finish the year in profit but we have some trainers with good stats this month, I'll be betting 9 trainers in total, 4 NH, 3 Flat Turf and 2 All Weather.

GB NH

PAUL NICHOLLS (ALL)

Crack trainer who is in a 3 way battle for the trainers championship, he’ll be firing plenty of ammo at the big races this month and has finished the season on a high in recent years.

  • 2020     Covid

  • 2021     25/90     28%     (£ 3.77)

  • 2022     18/68     26%    +£ 9.30

  • 2023     18/80     23%    +£48.93

  • 2024     18/96     19%     (£ 2.88)

Our early price figures showed a small profit of +£6.53  last year so we'll stick with him.

FERGAL O'BRIEN (ALL)

Gloucestershire trainer who currently sits 9th in the trainers championship.

  • 2021     16/63     25%    +£ 1.89

  • 2022     13/69     19%     (£ 5.89)

  • 2023     11/81     14%    +£15.26

  • 2024     10/67     15%    +£12.68

Ideally I would like a slight better strike rate but nice LSP in each of the last two years.

OLIVER GREENALL & JOSH GUERRIERO (ALL)

Cheshire trainers who joined forces in 2022.

  • 2022     5/34       14%     (£6.17)

  • 2023     7/33       21%     +£6.53

  • 2024    14/55      25%     +£14.95

They finished March well with 4 winners from their last 18 runners at 14's 13/2 4's and 11/8 and in Iroko have one of the favourites for the Grand National.

STUART EDMUNDS (ALL)

Bucks trainer who has some nice recent April figures.

  • 2021     2/6       33%     +£14.00

  • 2022     1/12       8%      (£ 9.25)

  • 2023     6/29     21%     +£ 4.08

  • 2024     3/14     21%     +£14.50

Hopefully we can dodge a repeat of 2022, otherwise some solid figures.

GB FLAT TURF

TOM CLOVER (ALL)

Newmarket based, trains a lot of the “Rogue” horses, with Rogue Lightening the highest rated.

  • 2020     Covid

  • 2021     12/10     20%     +£12.75

  • 2022       5/16     31%     +£10.38

  • 2023       1/5       20%      +£ 5.00

  • 2024       1/6       17%      +£ 0.50

Would like to see a few more runners, we made +£4.00 LSP from his winner that we bet at 9's that won at 11/2, he also had seconds at 6's and 20's

JAMES FERGUSON (ALL)

Another back from last year after providing a small profit.

  • 2021     1/7      14%     +£14.00

  • 2022     3/12    25%    +£ 5.83

  • 2023     3/10    30%    +£ 6.00

  • 2024     1/5      20%    +£ 1.00

Won't keep us too busy but we'll stick with him while he's showing a profit.

EVE JOHNSON HOUGHTON (NON 3yo's)

Oxfordshire trainer who has success with her Juveniles and older horses in April

  • 2022     5/18    28%    +£14.25

  • 2023     2/5      40%    +£ 2.88

  • 2024     4/13    31%    +£ 7.50

She's 2/29 and (£11.50) with her 3yo's over the same period so we'll give them a swerve.

GB AW

CHARLIE JOHNSTON (ALL)

Stable has changed from Mark to Mark and Charlie and now just Charlie but AW profits in April have been a constant.

  • 2020     Covid

  • 2021     12/46     26%     +£ 1.02

  • 2022      7/34      21%     +£ 4.94

  • 2023     11/47     23%     +£ 1.81

  • 2024      7/41      17%     +£18.70

The star of the show last April, our early price figures showed +£40.25 LSP with winners bet at 25's 14's 12's 7's and 6's x 2 and 17/4.  He had 9 seconds as well (some at big prices).

CHARLIE APPLEBY (ALL)

In the list last year with his turf runners but this time we're just betting his AW charges.

  • 2022      1/5         20%      (£ 3.64)

  • 2023      7/13       54%      +£11.56

  • 2024      4/7         57%      +£ 7.82

Cracking figures in the last two years, hopefully more of the same this year.

I'm looking forward to the month ahead, hopefully get losses into double figures in a bid to end the year in profit!

As always any questions or comments leave below, let's hope we can get back on track this month.
