Things that piss you off when playing poker

I don't mean bad beats or anything like that, but other things. 1) Americans who use the table as a US sports chatroom. 2) People who think it's hilarious to say "nh" when you and they have exactly the same hand.

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker In fact 3) People who say "nh" or "wp" when it was clearly neither. Often happens when pocket aces beat pocket kings - the worst player in the world could play that well. Or on occassions where the opponent fcuks up so bad that you could hardly fail to play well. 4) People who wait until the last second of the timer before calling all in preflop with AA. One of these days one of the fcukers is going to get disconnected just before they call, and they won't be trying that trick again.

Its definately annoying when people say nh, when it was won by sheer luck rather than good play :@
7) That you cant shoot them like in the westerns after you have lost all you chips all in
:rollin :rollin :rollin :clap :clap :clap

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker People who tell you the cards they folded pre-flop after it turns out that they would have had 4 of a kind.......... full house etc e.g. i had a 2 or "damn! I folded 2,6 i would have had a full house............. yeah well you folded them for a reason..................... they were shit cards, which by the law of averages have to be winners at some point.

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker

miserable mutes at my table who can't have a laugh and don't respond to any messages. I try to lighten up the table and make them love losing money to me but it's impossible sometimes.
That would probably include me :lol PL tournaments are about the only time i type anything in the chat box :D

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker

In fact 3) People who say "nh" or "wp" when it was clearly neither.
Agreed. Why just today in a STT on ladbrokes we were four handed. I was the short stack on the bubble. However a double through would actually put me second in chips, but with a 400 BB comming next hand i needed to find a hand NOW. Found JJ, excellent - All in. Called by A3o. Flop AAA. Harsh. Not the least bit bothered by the beat. I got my money in in a very good spot and got unlucky. Happens. What bemused me was the barrage of WP! and NH! and VVVVVVVVNH! from the other two players. Well played? He called off 2 thirds of his stack a 3/1 underdog. WP my ass :)
4) People who wait until the last second of the timer before calling all in preflop with AA.
Now this isnt quite so bad. In a tournament there are occasionaly times when you might just might have to think about if you really want to call for all your chips with AA. Let me provide an example. Your playing a $10 STT which pays 3 places. 4 players remain. You are PLAYER A. Blinds are at 400/800 A has 5000 in chips B has 8000 in chips C has 1000 in chips D has 1000 in chips in the big blind You raise and Player B moves all in for 8000, player D in the big blind HAS to call here. If he folds his BB hes gonna have 200 left. Its time to gamble for this boy. Player B will likely have a hand and will likely beat Player D. Sure your beating player B but he can bust you. Aces are not invincible and if you call and loose you go out third. Worse yet the all in BB might fluke something big and you gou out 4th when you had a substanial chip stack! Lets assume you do indeed bust along with the player D. You make $10 profit. However if you pass here. Even if played D doubles up you still have him pegged in chips, and player C is also on the way out. Baring some miracle chances are that by folding you will eventually come second. You make $20 profit. You double your profit by folding Aces. Crazy huh? If it was 3 handed the call is a little more clear cut. Sure you can fold and be assured second. But youll probably be too short to win heads up. You make $20 by folding aces here. But at this stage your freerolling. You can go ahead an take on the massive stack with Aces. You chances of winning the hand are high, the small stack will give up now and youll be heads up with approx 12,000 vs 3000. An almost sure win. In this case you profit by $40 by calling aces. Make sense?

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker 8) Any young player playing live at a casino being called an 'internet player' by the regulars and consequently looked down upon. 9) When a player is knocked out of a tourney after getting all the money in on the flop with flush draw/str8 draw/whatever missing his outs and then asking the dealer to see the burnt cards :unsure I really don't understand it, always the same people doing it.

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker Just to expand on that point, there ONE situation where I would fold, and that's if it was a satellite in the situation Dave Mardell outlines - obviously there 1st is no better than any other qualifying position. But in a STT I would rather win once than finish 3rd twice.

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker Hey Dave, Great to see you back on here mate. One of the old skool on pl. Been many years since I remember seeing you on ladborokes (under the orginal software...remember how pish that was :lol ) Hope you stick around on the poker forum here mate as you always have well thought out posts that are good to read. I will have to disagree with you totally on the AA tho and agree with dave. Many people hold this view that folding AA on the bubble/as they are about to go up in prize money etc is correct - it isn't although your short term expectation might be ok from doing this the long term expectation is far better going for the tournament win as dave points out. This is where the lions share of the money is...one outright MTT win is far better than 5 final table placings. However the point about a sat where winning does not increase your prize is a valid one and it can be correct to fold it in situations such as that. Back on thread tract I will have to add.... Live poker players who always insisit on being the last to turn their cards over in an all in before the river situation. CHEEKY FCUKERS IF I CALLED YOU THEN TURN THEM OVER FIRST MR SLOW ROLLER Jez

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker Hiya Jezz If you are who my memory says you are you started playing on ladbrokes not so long after me. I havent played poker for a bout a year. Refound my love of it recently. Seems that your game has grown immesurably from what Ive read here!. Mine still needs work, but its getting there. As for aces, sure if you want to win its a great spot to be taking the chip leader on in. Being that I SUCK at heads up play though im more interested in aquiring an almost garaunteed second by folding them. Personal preferance. And Dave, I play in a "Rounders" Tournament on Ladbrokes. Basically you pay $3 and play 4 successive STT's with the top 3 progressing every time. This is exactly what your talking about I think. There have been times when ive been 4 handed in those with about two thirds the chips in play. I would tend to fold any two cards to the second big stack in that spot, looking to bully the low man out. This is way off topic now, so sorry, but I think y'all should try a lader tournament. Only $3 a go, and while you not going to win them OFTEN, with prizes of $500 $300 and $200 at the final level theres a lot of value there.

Re: Things that piss you off when playing poker Dave, Yep thats me mate ;) welcome back to the fold....glad to see you have taken up poker again from your posts I am sure it will be a profitable hobby for you in the long run... You have done the best thing possible and identified a hole in your game there dave, so many players just assume they know it all that they fail to see where they are leaking profits. The fact you know you can improve heads up puts you a mile above the majority of online players....all you have to do now is get better at it! There is a good post by Zara a few posts back on this forum about heads up play - and of course there is NOTHING better than experience, and you can play little heads up tournaments from as much as 1 dollar on the net these days. I would say the key is just pure aggression and taking control of the situation - there are lots of fancy plays and of course heads up NL poker more than any form is far more about playing the player and not the cards but aggression is probably THE key factor. At the end of an STT which I assume you mean the blinds are so large it is mathematically not that bad to just move in every hand since the maths of your opponent folding make it incorrect for him to do so almost every time yet he will do an awful lot. Opting for this strategy also nulls any loss or fear you might have about actually "playing" heads up. Jez
