Newbury 3:00 - Hennessy Gold Cup Chase(HANDICAP) (Grade 3) (1) 3m2f 110yds Oliver Sherwood looks to have a real smart staying chaser in the form of Many Clouds and the 7 year old won nicely at Carlisle first time up, beating Eduard and finishing well clear of Holywell. He is up in trip for this and certainly has his stamina to prove for me, but he seems to be progressing nicely. Fingal Bay is very interesting with the Hobbs stable in such fine form, a horse that has won eight of his twelve starts to date, including the Pertemps Handicap at Cheltenham last March. The value in the race for me has to be Rocky Creek, a dour stayer for powerful connections that couldn't have had a nicer preperation. He should be well up to landing this with question marks over the Mullins horse. Bertimont pulled away from the field and coming to the final flight Irving came alongside absolutely tanking but he fell at the final hurdle. If he is none the worse after that nasty fall, he could take a bit of beating here. He ran a stinker in the Supreme Novices Hurdle back in March where he was fancied by many to win, but could only finish in 9th place. That said, he has loads of ability but I think he is bumping into a real progressive Nicky Henderson horse in the shape of Sign Of A Victory.
