bobsyerunkle
Re: Can you just turn up in Vegas and enter the World Series ? I know that the winner gets a good few mill for winning, but calculating at 5000 entrants at 10000 each, thats $50m in the kitty. Does this get distributed out in winnings down to the last 500 or 1000 or are the organisers creaming off a huge amount of dollar ???? Jezza
Re: Can you just turn up in Vegas and enter the World Series ? The winner of a MTT usually gets between 20-30% of the prize pool bob, I would estimate if the PP is 50mill this year for the main event then the winner will get 10mil. About 10% of the starting field will "make the money" and cash in a standard MTT structure - the higher up the ladder you finish, the bigger the % of the prize pool you receive. Poker tournaments should never have the organisers taking money out of the prize fund for themselves, they might charge a small rake at the start (if the tournament costs 100 to enter, the rake might be an extra 9 dollars) which they keep for running the thing/handling the money and payouts/providing the dealers etc but the whole 100 goes into the prize pool and back to the winners. I dont think the WSOP main event even has a rake but even if it does the whole 10k everyone puts up as an entry fee is all in the prize pool. This is why casinos dont really like poker games compared to blackjack/roullete etc as they make no money from it. Jez

zonker84
Re: Can you just turn up in Vegas and enter the World Series ? Apparently last year people were turning up for the WSOP on the day, and a day or two before, and getting turned away because there wasn't enough room to accomodate them all. Apparently there is more space this year, so shouldn't have the same problem I'd imagine. Also, as far as I was aware, most big live cash tournament have a small rake between 2% and 8% to cover their expenses :)
