Flat Racing > Monday May 19th

Roscommon 7:25 I thought the John Oxx trained Castle Of Argh would be a much shorter price than 10/1 to land this race, especially with the booking of Declan McDonagh. The 4 year old colt caught the eye on debut at Cork when 6th of 18 @ 33/1 over a mile at the end of last year. The form of that race has been franked with the 2nd and 4th coming out to win since. He went off a 5/2 chance at Dundalk last November and finished 3rd, staying on late in the day over 1m3f so the 1m4f is what the horse wants by the look of it. He ran over 1m4f last time out at Gowran Park and never got involved but the ground was very heavy that day so he can be forgiven. He is very lightly raced and is with a top trainer, he runs off a mark of 64 here which is very lenient. Castle Of Argh WIN @ 10/1 Paddy Power

Re: Flat Racing > Monday May 19th 5.00 Southwell This is a pretty week affair with most of this with something to prove. Basingstoke has gone the wrong way since joining this yard having won twice on this surface in a handicap and seller, handicapper given him a real chance dropping him back to just 1lb above last winning mark but hugely below that from over CD last time out. Warfare is very well treated but not shown much recently and 3 tries on this surface nothing special. On The Cusp is a 6 time winner around here, has been running over much further recently but is more than capable at this trip. Not in much form last time out and this mark now requires a best effort since 2011. Sam Spade won here on penultimate start over CD, up 4lb for that effort and disappointing last time out back on turf. He may be better on this surface and has a sound chance if bouncing back. Sutton Sid takes a big step down in trip, didn’t show much on last 2 starts and although should be competitive off this mark best watched on surface debut. General Tufto has held his form all spring, but he continues to creep up the weights and is usually worth taking on for win purposes these days, often races lazily. In such a weak affair it might be worth risking Silvala Dance, she clearly has not been easy to train. Just the one run last year on handicap debut really good 3rd off a mark of 48 over 7f at Kempton. Looked well worth a try at mile and is an interesting contender return again from a layoff off a 2lb higher mark. Slight concern over stable form but yard don’t have many runners here just 15 for last past 5 years with 2 wins and a LSP of +2. Might just be worth risking in this. 1pt win Silvala Dance 7/1 PP
