E/W good value? What about this?

Recommended Posts

Somewhere near the start of Roland Garros 2012 I bet on Djokovic to win outright 'each way' [ie: bet X] So that works out at:

  • £30 on the win @ 5/2
  • £30 on 2nd place @ 5/4 (to win 4 matches and make the final)

So in the (now likely) event of 2nd place I make merely £7.50, although I risked £60. I could have done: Bet Y: £30 single on Djo Outright to get the 5/2 ...waited until semi then: £30 on Djo to beat Fed @ 1/2 (actually -188) which would a) Give DOUBLE the profit (~£15) b) Be much more likely that Djo beats Fed than winning 3 matches THEN Fed! c) Not have to risk the full £60 on Djo reaching final.. If he got knocked out against Tsonga I would only have lost £30 instead of £60. So it seems (I guess) that Nadal will win and I will (thank god) get my money back and make my £7.50. But was it a good idea putting the bet on [re: Bet X] in the first place? It seems an idea to avoid E/W betting on tennis outrights in future. Thanks.
