robertob Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 The connections of Americain were apparently not quite happy with Mosse's ride in the BMW... just watched the race and have to admit they have definitely a point. It was not his best performance, though the comments of the part owner are a bit harsh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gsj_3KWzAy8 French jockey Gerald Mosse will never ride Melbourne Cup champion Americain again FRENCHMAN Gerald Mosse will never ever again ride Americain. Furious part-owner Kevin Bamford said Mosse's association with Americain, the horse he partnered to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup, is finished following a ride in Saturday's BMW that drew wide-spread condemnation. While there's a likelihood that Americain may run in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Mosse will not ride the horse."I think it's a given that Gerald will not be coming back," Bamford said. "He will never ride the horse again. It was a dismal effort." Bamford said he refused to speak to Mosse after he sat three wide, then ran into a pocket at the top of the straight before finishing well to finish second behind Manighar. He said Mosse had two choices - ease back to gain cover or move forward outside the leader - but he chose to "sit out on a limb for a mile and a half (2400 m). "The horse was magnificent. Stephanie (Nigge, the horse's personal attendant) and David (Hayes) had done a wonderful job, he couldn't have been any better. And you get some cowboy who in a minute and a half destroys all that hard work. "If you knew anything about Rosehill you know you can't sit three wide for a mile and a half (2400 m)." Bamford said a case could be mounted that Americain, also luckless when fourth in last year's Melbourne Cup and third in the Australian Cup, should be unbeaten throughout his Australian career. He said a decision on starting Americain in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000 m) at Randwick on the final day of the Sydney carnival would be made in consultation with the owners, Hayes and Nigge. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/superracing/french-jockey-gerald-mosse-will-never-ride-melbourne-cup-champion-americain-again/story-fn67rc85-1226321647354 Quote
cim85 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Immediately the race finished, even the Australian media commentators were commenting about Gerald's poor ride and several said "No Gerald, that is not how you ride on Australian tracks†Quote
