  1. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

As we relax in our armchairs it's easy to say Kirby should have taken a pull at the bend' date=' but in the spur of the moment I doubt Kirby had much time to react. He did look quite glum in the interview afterwards!Elusive Hawk has a further entry in the coming days.[/quote'] He had more than enough time to take a pull long before the bend. It's not as if the horse became loose just before the bend. Imo he should have taken a pull as soon as he became aware of the horse becoming loose. A couple of the other jocks were clearly trying to do the same so the room may not have been there right away but it's not exactly difficult to envisage a horse running wide off the final bend without a jockey on board. A young apprentice could be forgiven for not acting upon what had happened but Morris knows his way around Lingfield blindfolded so he could have helped his cause no end imo.
  2. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Kirby could definitely have taken a slight pull before the bend to ensure EH was on the inside of the loose one. Always a huge risk of that happening. Wont be much of a price nto but in the same kind of race will be all the rage. For me that means trying to find one against it at a price instead of backing EH regardless of opposition.

  3. Re: BBOTD Monday 25th Bernisdale. 5:10 Lingfield. 14/1 general BOG. Seems strange to see a last time out winner priced up in double figures given that there are questions to answer for most of the others. Frank Spencer absolutely robbed the race lto at Wolves and that's obviously going to be much more difficult now back at a track where the front runners are sitting ducks 99% of the time. However, Luke Morris is probably the finest AW jock around imo and im sure he would have had other options in the race so it's a bonus he's decided to opt for this one. At the prices available, if Morris can build up a decent lead on the horse then he may be able to just hold off enough of the cavalry to hold on for some place money. As l type, Luke Morris has just made it 2 from 2 for the day so the signs are there for him to have another excellent day at Lingfield. 1pt e/w @ 14/1.

  4. Re: Doncaster weather and ground Friday n Saturday l live a stones throw from the track. It rained moderately for about 20 minutes earlier and it's been overcast most of the morning (to be fair, i've only been up a couple of hours as im on nights but it dint sound like it was raining at all heavily whilst i was in bed) The snow that was forecast hasnt materialised and it doesn't look like it will be doing anytime soon as it's reasonbly bright just now. There was what could only be described as a boating lake on common ground just off course (just after the home turn) for most of the jumps season but that doesnt appear to be there now every day when i drive past. l presume that's the effect of the new drainage put in place. Soft, heavy in places at worst imo. Since the track/course/grandstand etc was renovated 6 or 7 years ago l dont recall ever seeing the word heavy in the going description so if it was to be described as heavy throughout id be amazed.

  5. Re: BBOTD Thursday 14th 5:15 Cheltenham. Double Dizzy. 1pt e/w. Really hoping this race gets the go ahead because given the weight this horse has to carry in comparison to previous festivals and open meetings it has to be in with a shout of nabbing place money at worst. The horse could run round the course blindfolded which is a massive plus for me given that a few of these are having their first run round the course. Lightly raced this year as a 12 yr old and as the ground is probably going to be a bit sticky that ought to take ANY pace out of what is already little more than a canter which can only help to serve him better. iirc also, Glassonbury has made a balls of things round this course before so im hoping that previous faux pas will help keep his mind on the job and not make any careless errors that are very easy to mistake round such an intrinsical course.

  6. Re: Thursday 4:00: Byrne Group Plate Im on Theatre Guide for this. Looks very progressive and had he gone on to win his latest start at Kempton, given the manner he was travelling that day, he would have been a far shorter price. l think it's always worth remembering that in these massive field handicapps that double figure prices are nothing to be scared of as it's comprative to a 5 or 6/1 shot in a 12 runner or so flat handicapp. The Tizzard's are clearly in good heart, both leading up to the festival and this week itself. Gone for Theatre Guide and Cue Card in singles and an e/w double.

  7. Re: Tuesday 3:20: Champion Hurdle Too many people trying too hard to find a way to get Hurricane Fly beat imo. Only time he's been beat was in this last year when he was never right all season. Needs plenty of racing, has had it, unconcerned regarding the ground or tactics employed by any other horse in the race. There's a hurricane coming, and it's not going to be stopped!!!

  8. Re: BB0TD Tuesday 12th March 2013 - It's Time. 1:55 Southwell Look on By. Not ran for 6 months but this horse came through as an ATR tracker for me last night. Well bred (by byron) individual who was doing all his best work late on on only his 2nd start over C&D lto. Obviously entitled to come on for the run but on breeding this is the right trip for him. The form of the race is working out brilliantly. Of 22 runners from the field, 5 have won, 6 have placed. Next time out form is also very strong with 3 winners and 1 place from 7. Watching the video of each of his 2 previous runs encourages further also. All in all, l feel it can only be a lack of fitness that will do for this horse but 18/1 is available just now and that's far too tempting for me. 2pts e/w @18/1.

  9. Re: Tuesday 4:00: Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase (now 5.45pm) Still think double dizzy's confirmed liking for the course is a good enough angle to get involved at 40's. He's also running off a featherweight in comparison to the other occassions he's ran in the race. He's got some lovely form up against the likes of well refreshed who won the sussex national on the bridle. Obviously double dizzy clearly finds it hard to get his head in front but he's been given every chance by the handicapper and at the prices, it's worth a punt to small stakes imo.

  10. Re: cheltenham chat thread 2013

Really looking forward to my maiden trip to the festival next week but in need of a bit of advice. I'm travelling on the train from Birmingham and hear it gets insanely busy. Any fellow midlanders got any idea about how early I'll need to get to New Street by to make sure I get a train to Cheltenham in plenty of time. Any advice gratefully received. Apologies if this isn't the right place for this query. Thanks.
Me and my mate stayed in a travelodge or the like near birmingham international station and got the 8am train into cheltenham. We got into cheltenham spa about quarter to 9 and there was queues of coaches/buses all over the place trying to get people to the track. Throw in the rush hour traffic and you've got a recipe for losing your temper right about the time you dont want to. l dont really have a solution for you, other than to try and think outside the box for getting there. Perhaps consider getting off a stop early and getting a bus/taxi from there. Edit. Of course, the issue you have then is the same me and my mate had when we went..............If you're not careful you're 2 parts pissed by the time the tapes go up. l thought there was a massive scrap taking place at the start of the Supreme :p
  11. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 6th

16.30 Lingfield: Gaelic Silver @ 7/2 Betfred Already a seven year old, yet unexposed on the All-Weather. He came down a good deal in the weights since moving to the UK and is certainly down to a very lenient mark. He was a very eye-catching 2nd three weeks ago here at Lingfield when he had things not really in his favour. He travelled super well in rear, but the pace was slow and he had loads to do turning for home while the eventual winner had the run of the race from the front. Gaelic Silver really finished like a train in the closing stages suggesting he is in fine form and better than the current mark, but had to settle for second. The handicapper raised him by 1lb for that effort which won't make any difference I suppose and if you consider that he was back in 2011 still the winner of a class 1 Handicap chase over in France it looks obvious that he could be easily better than the rest of this modest looking field. Main danger is probably the Gosden horse with Buick up, but has only ordinary form to offer in maidens, even though the mark could be lenient on handicap debut. Will see but feel confident about Gaelic Silver.
Wouldn't lose hope with this one just yet mate. Dont know if you saw the race or not but it got going a bit late and was badly squeezed either side when beginning to make nice headway 100 yards from the line. Went straight into my ATR tracker anyway that's for sure ;)
  12. Re: BBOTD Thursday 7th 3:55 Southwell On With The Dance. This thing stuck on exceptionally well lto at Lingfield under that clown Jamie Spencer and with the extra furlong and slower surface going to bring that staying on quality into further effect then im going to give this thing the full ammunition in terms of backing it. A 2 horse race on form figures and only something with a touch of class from the newcomers likely to trouble it (but none of the familiar yards up against it apart from the clearly moody Johnston horse) Not sure what else l can say in all truth, form figures, breeding, ground, jockey and trainer form etc are all well good in the right circumstances but sometimes you just have to trust what your eyes are telling you and back accordingly.
