Southwell's Pie & Peas for £4 is to die for , chuck another 50p in & you can treat yourself to some gravy ?

Personally other than having the fortune of V.I.P at Cheltenham once & 3 decent days out in the Owner / Trainers am not one for eating fancy grub at a racecourse but hope you have an enjoyable experience nonetheless .

    You’re not wrong about Southwell!

One of my favourite tracks on the all weather for those awful quality midweek mid winter meetings, yeah I’m weird like that.

Im off to Devon for a week next month and have had Newton Abbott booked for a while now. And then Bath on the Saturday of the leger on the way back up.

  2. Hi lads and lasses.

Im after your opinions on where’s the best place to go for a bit of a treat for a day at the races with a nice meal alongside.

Im much more interested in the sticks but I was at Chester other week and booked into the white horse which was very nice. Only slight downside was that we had to leave the table if we wanted to see the race in the flesh as opposed to the big screen.

I’m happy to budget for up to and around £200 a ticket.

    Thanks in advance. Happy punting.

  3. Re: BBOTD > Wednesday December 11th 2:30 Lingfield. Hawkeyethenoo. 7/1Hills BOG. 6F Round Lingfield with a strong pace and the likelihood of horses being able to give it the slingshot off the turn gives me the feeling the race is going to be teed up perfectly for this old boy. He just doesn't seem to quite have the zing he once had in his younger days but always give his all, Graham Lee maintains the faith and the quick surface of the track will surely accentuate the horses love for striding out and powering past rivals who have cut the pace out up front. 1pt e/w

  4. Re: BBOTD > Saturday December 7th 2:05 Aintree. 1pt e/w Baby Run. Given Twiston Ba5tard's record in the race with older horses added to Baby Run's confirmed ability to jump the fences and the way he often travels in his races I think 20/1 is massive even given the near 700 day lay off. Sam wouldn't be on board if he didn't think it was in with a good shout and with question marks over a lot of his rivals jumping the field could well be thinned out sufficiently enough to make the 5 places seem almost like a penalty kick given the horses natural ability.

  5. Re: BBOTD > Friday December 6th 1:55 Lingfield Gaelic Silver. I backed this one lto and it won with a tonne more than the 3lb in hand that it's gone up. Same jockey back on board and the style of racing at the track suits it down to the ground. The race looks weaker if anything on paper and so long as the horse is in the same mood it will take all the beating imo. 1pt win @ SP.

  6. Re: The Jockey Thread

That's bonkers' date=' what were they thinking, both will end up getting a ban.[/quote'] Why would Elsworth get a ban? The consensus seems to be that Murphy went in all guns blazing as the aggressor and Dominic was merely defending himself after being attacked, not his fault he had to open a can of woop ass!
  7. Re: Key Race: Hennessy Gold Cup, 3.00 Newbury, Sat. 30th November

I doubt he will go to Aintree now considering that will have blown his mark sky high (which Henderson alluded too in his interview after the race). I'm not really sure what they will do with him now.
Im sure Henderson has said in the past that the horses long term target would be Aintree. Maybe im getting it confused with something else. Maybe they'll wait till the season after this but that would seem absurd imo.
  8. Re: Key Race: Hennessy Gold Cup, 3.00 Newbury, Sat. 30th November Excellent shout that Billy hills. Is there still any value left in backing him for the national come April? The trouble for me with these big staying chasers is there isn't many races around in the calendar to go for, the horse looked all about stamina yesterday and between now and Aintree you can only name a couple of races left for him to run in which leaves you with the problem of trying to offset keeping his mark low enough with keeping him fit for the national.

  9. Re: BBOTD > Thursday November 28th Newbury 3:40 Red Devil Lads. Rebecca Curtis horse will improve for the return to better ground, spoke positively of this horse on her stable tour and the group of connections have had some pretty decent flat horses before that have gone on to do well over hurdles. First time on a racecourse at Ffos Las lto will have been a good education, form held up well by the winner and Schofield has fired in plenty of winners on Curtis horses.

  10. Re: BBOTD > Wednesday November 27th 12:40 Fontwell. Join The Navy. Up against a horse that's not ran for over 2 years, and was pulled up on it's last start but is actually been backed from a stable not renowned for gambles is a touch concerning but JTN will get every help from the saddle and having watched the race it unseated from last time when going really well it's hard to understand why it's not favourite. Sure to go on the ground, trip no problems and has the definite race fitness advantage. 2pt win @ 5/2 (Generally available)

  11. Re: Urgent message from Racing Post

I take it you guys who pay for RP are not doing so at the minute? I ask as i am able to access all the members stuff for free as i don't have to log in while they are sorting the mess out.
Every cloud has a silver lining and all that. I noticed yesterday that all the stuff you usually have to pay for is available to browse just now. Lets hope these problems are on-going for sometime yet haha.
  12. Re: Key Race: Betfair Chase, 3.00 Haydock, Saturday 23rd Nov.

Well, that was another race I got wrong. Like others, I took CC's kempton flop literally, and put a line through him getting 3 miles. But, he got himself into a nice rhythm from the off, IMO, due to the distance to the 1st fence, which gave him time to relax, also running against the rail certainly helped as it meant the other front runner Roi Du Mee was being forced wider. As I see it, the race took a lot out of him, which means he will need a break and due to kemptons fences, I don't think the course suits him. As for the KG, I would take Dynaste out of yesterday's race as the likely improver, with a bit of interest in Flemenstar. Long Run is another chaser that Henderson has knackered.
Long Run is a victim of a few things imo. One the jockey, Waley Clown could make a balls up of a walk over on Sprinter Sacre. Two, he just doesn't jump at all well, Three, the horse has had a pretty tough career, Four, when you look at the races he's won, the GC in particular, who's he actually beat? Captain Chris, Syncronised (good horses but lets be honest, horses that win big handicap races like the welsh national are really usually nothing extraordinary) and in the GC a fading Denman and far too old for the GC kauto. l just don't buy into what a lot of others do about him being a top class horse.
  13. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 2nd May 8:10 Chepstow Dear Maurice 9/1 bog general. This horse has it's first run of the season since getting up right on the line at Brighton last season. The 5f is definitely a bit short for him imo but he has won at 5 twice and over a mile a couple of times too so it's clearly versatile tactic wise as well. The race it ran at Brighton lto has to be up-rated imo as he got a nightmare time of things on the rail and had to be snatched up to allow to be pulled to the outside and then showing a lovely kick finish to nail a horse that ran well nto.

  14. Re: BBOTD Friday 26th April 1:40 Sandown Top BOY @16/1 BOG Hills. This horse really impressed me in a couple of runs last season and looking back through it's form from last season a number of the horses it was close up to have ran well or won already this season (Bapak Bangsawan notably travelled well under Amy Ryan at Newcastle yesterday and would have been much closer than what it ended up as under a stronger jockey imo) Heavy metal (Mark Johnson's iirc) and Body and Soul are all decent enough horses running in higher grades than this or in listed/group company. Nice pipe opener to beat Bapap Bangsawan on reappearance this year lto at Wolves and all being well this thing can pick up the progression it was showing last year as a 2yr old. 1pt win.

  15. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread

I'd love his job though. Going to racing every day talking b*llocks, blokes living the dream.
Yeah, l forgot to add im only venting my frustration due to being green with envy at the job he has. Difference being though, me and you know one end of a horse from the other. He's been flown over to Punchestown today (courtesy of gigginstown no doubt) spoke to Gary o' Brien for two minutes and is now probably in the hospitality tent giving himself a tug in the bogs with Hayley o' Connors knickers over his head deeply inhaling the scent of her love tunnel with every breath.
  16. Re: Daily Racing Chat Thread Can someone tell me the point in the twat that is Rory Jewani? He travels round from track to track, day to day appearing on your telly at will to tell us what prices Stan James are offering on certain horses and any offers they have on on horses they feel they can get beat. He's probably on 40k plus a year for reading from notes he's been e-mailed 5 minutes previously for about 3 minutes a time on ATR every day. Prick, talks baba, incoherent tripe and if his e-mail ever failed him one day he'd bubble his way through his talks with Mappletoft like one of those crazies you see in town every weekend screaming all manner of complete babble.

  17. Re: BBOTD 25th April 18:50 Newcastle William Van Gogh @ 9/2 general BOG. Not 100% convinced that stepping back in trip this sharply from 1m 4 is what the horse is crying out for as it wasn't by any shape or form stopping at the line but the turn of foot it showed at the top of the Wolverhampton straight also confirmed that it has a nice turn of foot. Kept to the same grade and despite a 2lb rise in the weights it seems, given that it seems to be really enjoying himself just now has to be in with an excellent chance on it's return to turf.

  18. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 23rd April 4:15 Catterick. Look On By @ 20/1 BOG hills. Hoping this horse may find another half dozen lengths or so now it's dropped in distance and had a little bit of assistance from the handicapper. Its first two runs of it's career came over 5f in class 5 company at Southwell and they were the two most promising of it's career. The horse now gets to run off 7lb lower than those first two runs and 2lb lower than it's last run at Wolves where it was clearly coming to the end of it's tether over 6f. Was running against two decent yardsticks for the grade that day in "The manx missile" and "Jordanstown" so, if it's 2 runs this season have just brought him cherry ripe he may outrun his odds. My gut feeling is that the horse is going to need a bit more help from the handicappers yet but in a race lacking strength in depth he's worthy of a wee punt.

  19. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 23rd 6:15 Yarmouth. Snooky @ 9/4 Betvictor BOG. Ran really well despite a terrible draw and slow start at Ponty last time out. Finished ahead of a horse who has come out and ran 2nd to a horse who can win round Wolves blindfolded with the pair miles clear of the 3rd. Has another 2lb on his back but has looked progressive and worth the step up in trip. Been steadily supported in the market all morning and with the trainer making a cracking start to the season coupled with the fact he has an excellent strike rate with a small selection of runners at the track looks to be in with a great shout.

  20. Re: Key Races~ Scottish Grand National 20th April Bradley for me also. Ignore it's last run and the horse is massively well in. Was hugely progressive last season and with the talented claimer Conor Shoemark given the ride and a further 7lb taken off everything looks set for a big run. Said to a friend at Doncaster when Fill the Power was just beaten 2nd running on well something like this race or the eider at Newcastle should be it's target. Unforutnately Pricewise has dicked me on the value but still fancy it to run well.

  21. Re: Sunderland v Everton > Sat 20th April Don't let the result against Newcastle fool you. The 3 goals they scored were absolutely wonder goals but 9 times out of then those 25 yarders end up getting thrown back from someone half up the stand. Sunderland were being outplayed by Newcastle prior to their opening goal and were fortunate to go in still 1 up after Cisse's wrongly disallowed goal for offside. Everton showed during the week that they are more than a match for the bigger teams these days and have also tightened up their defence of late. Sunderland are poor up front, and nobody other than Fletcher has even come close to getting double figures in league goals this season. Any sort of odds against given the difference in league placings is too generous imo. Don't be fooled by the so called Di Canio effect. It's the same mediocre players up against far superior players.

  22. Re: BBOTD Saturday 20th Wolverhampton 8:45 Syncopate @ 11/2 Corals BOG. Bit disappointed this one is only available at the price above for BBOTD purposes as it came through as being available at 7's on my tracker last night. The RP has tipped it up as well which obviously contributes to the contraction. The horse started moderately at best lto at Ponty and it's never going to be easy to recover from that over such a sharp track. Still ran on strongly despite having to be pulled to the outside and gets to run off a 1lb lower than lto and also 2lb lower than what he's won off before. Still also relatively lightly raced so may have improvement in him, does need to prove he really enjoys Wolverhampton but he's won at Lingfield on the same surface so alls being well he should run a big race. 1 pt win.
