  1. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 24 Could go either way, and it's only home advantage that is making Wigan favs. All depends if Wigan are fast out of the blocks in the first 20 mins. If Hudds can control them, then it will be close. My only play will be 20 quid on the draw on betfair. Main bet though is Wakey with 20 at Warrington. Wire have no hb's, with a hooker and a fb filling those positions. In other words, nobody there to create anything. A few quid Wakey on the outright Wont go amiss either.

  2. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 23 Taken the 20 for hull KR . Prior to their last league game, KR were running hot, and the final score at Warrington did not do them justice. I'd expect a decent performance tonight on the back of a break, against a side who will have 1 eye on the CC final in a few weeks. Put them in a double with Widnes +18. Simply on the basis that FC have just a 5 day turnaround from their biggest game of the season, of which, it would have taken an awful lot out of them. Another side with an eye on the upcoming final.

  3. Re: Challenge Cup Semi Finals + Wakefield vs Leeds Super League Good call yesterday Kevin, don't know what was more embarrassing, my bet or the match itself:unsure As for today, it's bound to be a better spectacle than yesterday's farce and the +14 is a decent call. +10 in my book and that could have been less. No need to talk teams, but FC have a fair record over us over the years, including a win at Warrington this season and more famously, Joey Johns 3rd and final game for Warrington, when the handicap and predicted outcome were very similar to today. Its a sf, 1 off game and anything can happen. My angle comes from the reffing point of view. I've had a long held view that some refs have a preference for certain teams. Thaler for Leeds, and by all accounts, he was at it again the other night, Klein for Warrington, well he was until a bunch of female Wire fans stripped him naked in Perpignan 1 time, after that I don't think he reffed a Wire victory:rollin. Now for Silverwood, certainly not a favourite amongst the Wire faithful. I'm still open minded about him, but a killer stat is, the last 4 cup games he's reffed us, we've lost. 3 playoffs and a grand final. Hull FC +14@ 10/11 Hull FC 100/30 on the outright. Both with betfred.

  4. Re: Challenge Cup Semi Finals + Wakefield vs Leeds Super League Dodgy game to get involved with, handicapping wise. Mark has moved 6 points in 2 days. My main worry for covering it would be the 5 day turnaround, which,IMO, gives London a chance of rattling up some points. Can see this ame being tightish in the 1st half, before class eventually tells and Wigan running out comfortable winners, unless london get a few dodgy calls from the ref. On the basis of it being a sf, 5 day turnaround, my only bet is London +14 at ht with betfred at evens. It's basically 3 trys difference, which has a better chance of being covered in a cup game than a league game.

  5. Re: Significant upgrading of races, over the next several months. Would have to agree the Erhaab. Why mend something that isn't broke? In recent years, the additional day at Cheltenham and its added races, have taken a lot of gloss off the Aintree meeting. They can upgrade races as and when, but all it does is reduce the number of runners in the top races, as trainers and owners look to avoid horse x or y, to secure black type. As for that Celebration Chase being upgraded to a grade1 is laughable. Well Chief was the last genuine G1 winner in 2005, the rest have been g3/2 at best. The race is an afterthought for those beaten in the QM at Cheltenham, who don't fancy a rematch at Punchestown.

  6. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 22 Next weekends CC semis will have a big outcome this weekend, no doubt tonight will be the same. Would love to take Bradford, but I just cannot trust them, whereas, hull FC are a team I have consistently got wrong over the past few years, so much so, that I do my best to avoid their games. Widnes -8 ht are my only bet tonight. Missed the -14, so not going to chase the rearranged handicap. Said before on here that only the better teams have put points on Widnes. Generally when the play similar or lesser teams they are quite decent. London are resting a few players ahead of next week, looked very bland at Sheffield last week, where they had the ref as 14th man, and the 4g pitch is a massive home advantage. Im expecting Widnes to put at least 50 points on London tonight.

  7. Re: Challenge Cup Quarter Finals I still go back to the Wire/ Wigan game the other week and how much it took out of both sides. I'm just not happy about my hometown team since then, the Leeds team were very unlucky not to come away with the 2 points that night. Huddersfield have been extremely consistent all season, and in Danny Brough, have, IMO, the best hb in SL this season. A lot depends on how the game is reffed, with Hudds tending to play a "slowing down game". If allowed to get away with it, and Danny Brough kicking Wire all over the park, especially in this weather, then Warrington are in for a long afternoon. Handicap is only 4 points greater than mine, but only home advantage makes warrington favourites. Huddersfield 2/1 off scratch.

  8. Re: Challenge Cup Quarter Finals Concur with the OP. Sheffield won the last 15 whilst London only won 1 of their last 9. Said for the last 2 seasons that the top 3/4 in NL are equal to those of the bottom of SL. I can handicap this as either, Sheffield being a top NL side and London being a poor SL side, or Sheffield being at least or better than London on my league by league sliding scale. Either way it comes out as Sheffield GIVING between 4-8 points, which is massively different to the odds available. Sheffield +14 and 7/2 on the outright.

  9. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 21 Regarding the Wire game, I take the view that the recent Wire/ Wigan match has taken a lot more out of both sides than first thought. Recent performances by both sides would indicate this, and, therefore, neither side can be backed with any degree of confidence for the foreseeable future. As for tonight, for the 3rd time in a row we differ. Wakey have certainly improved winning the last 3 which, quite possibly, could have been 4 giving up a decent lead against Wigan. My biggest worry though, is last weeks massive effort against Hull FC, which could leave its mark on them. Widnes on the other hand are becoming a difficult team to work out? With a bit more composure and luck they would have beaten Catalans, Castleford, Salford and Wigan, which would have put them further up the table. What we do know about them is that only the top teams that have beaten them convincingly, whereas, the teams around or below them have been pretty tight and close games. We also know that Widnes are quite useless 10 yards or less from the try line, but are pretty lethal from just about anywhere else on the pitch, due to their willingness to throw the ball around. I expect plenty of points tonight, but Wakey to win, but not by more than a 3 try margin. Widnes +14 @ ladbrokes.

  10. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 21 Sox Kevin, got to disagree with you again. Reckon Leeds could be coming out of their mini slump. Thought they would have struggled bigtime at Widnes last week, but the kids did them proud. The final result was not a true reflection on the game. I take the view, that when teams like Leeds, Saints, Wigan etc play or buy theses youngsters, it means they are classed as good enough to play for them and too good to play for a lower league team. So youngsters in the team does not really worry me as there is also plenty of experienced Leeds players on the pitch. Warrington are certainly the form team ATM, but a big negative is a 3rd game in 11 days. Players are not machines, and a big CC game next week coming up against Hudds is another distraction. Handicap is spot on to mine, but the wire negatives are too big for me for me to ignore Leeds with a 3 try start. Leeds +14 @ 1/1

  11. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 19 Was a cracker. 1 of those games where I wouldn't have been disappointed if we had lost. Credit to the ref for letting the game flow. Best reffing performance I've seen this season. Be interesting to see how much that game has taken out of both teams this weekend.

  12. Re: Super League 2013 - Round 19 Got to disagree with the OP, Warrington are absolutely bouncing ATM and peaking quite nicely, whereas, Wigan IMO, have been less than impressive in the last few weeks, and could be hitting a bad patch just like Leeds. Took Wire -4 the other day, and barring an inept riffing performance and a few poor video ref calls, I can't see us failing. Wire by 6 would suit us both:cigar

  13. Re: Flat Racing Saturday 21st June Noble Mission 14/1... Hardwicke Stakes. Not much to be said about this horse that has not been said already. Seems to get a very dim view from the press, especially from the Frankel perspective, proberley because, IMO, he has been racing under the wrong conditions. Today he has ideal conditions, a fast pace and a r-h course with a short run in, where his form reads 211. Proberley has the best initial burst of speed in the field which is suited to courses with a short finishing straight, and which is why he's failed more often than not on courses with long finishing straights, where he just cannot maintain his effort. Another major plus is the way the great man used to instil confidence into his classier horses, who when they went off form, would drop them down in class into a very winnable race. Kissing cousin, Timepiece and Twice Over, immediately spring to mind. He did this at Goodwood lto, winning very easily. The 3rd has franked the form winning a group3 nto at Haydock.
