  1. Re: UEFA Cup - matches 02/10 - 04/10 Most of my bets as you know are based on form and stats but every now and then I get a “gut instinct “ for a certain outcome and that is the case tonight for me as I expect Blackburn to qualify for the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup which is the group stage. I say qualify as opposed to win the match as Stan James are offering evens for Blackburn to qualify as opposed to the general 1 to 4 about Blackburn winning the game. I was on holiday so missed the first leg when Larissa won 2-0 at home but by all accounts I have read Blackburn were poor on the night and got what they deserved. Tonight I am sure Mark Hughes will get his team motivated for the challenge and I believe a win for them by the margin required is not beyond a side that contains players of the quality of Santa Cruz, Bentley, McCarthy and Matt Derbyshire who in my opinion is a future England international, every time I have seen him play I have been impressed with his movement and finishing and he can have no finer manager to help him develop his game. Blackburn had a mini slump with the defeat to Larissa followed by a home defeat to Portsmouth by 1-0 but they have since beaten Birmingham 3-0 in the Carling Cup and Sunderland away 2-1 in the Premiership and look back on track. Prior to that they had been on a long unbeaten run with good results at Chelsea where they drew 0-0 and at home to Arsenal when they drew 1-1 which has been by far Arsenal’s toughest game of the season so far. Their opponent’s tonight Larissa are currently 8th in the Greek league after 3 games and come into this match off the back of a 2-0 away defeat to Atromitos at the weekend. They qualified for the UEFA Cup by beating Panathiaikos 2-1 in the Greek Cup Final last season so are not to be underestimated, and they also include in their ranks Ibrahim Bakayoko who Everton fans will remember after he had a short spell with them a few years back, in fact it was he who got the first goal in the match in Greece. I believe if Blackburn can get an early goal momentum will build and they will go on and win the match by the required margin. The UEFA Cup is an event I am sure Blackburn would have expected to do well in this season having gone through the Intertoto Cup to get there and they will not want to exit at this early stage. The other bet I fancy tonight is David Bentley at 8/1 for the first goal. He has been playing well this season and thoroughly deserved his call up to the senior England squad though the treatment he received from so called fans left a lot to be desired. He has shown maturity and has scored 3 times in all competitions for Blackburn this season including 2 in the last 2 games so hopefully he can bag one tonight. So for me it is Blackburn to Qualify for the 2nd round of the UEFA Cup at evens with Stan James, (remember even an extra time win or penalties makes this bet a winner).

  2. Norrkoping v. Osters Norrkoping top the table by 11 points from 2nd placed Sundsvall but lately over the last 6 matches their form has dipped a little with 3 wins 1 draw 2 defeats 10 goals scored and 5 conceded but they have been in superb form at home all term and are unbeaten in 10 games at home 8 of which were won, also in that time they have scored 28 and conceded 6. Their opponents tonight Osters are 13th in the 16 team league and only 1 point off a relegation place. In their last 6 games they have won 2 drawn 2 and lost 2 scoring 8 and conceding 7 and ironically they have a better away record in the league then they do a home one with 3 wins 3 draws and 4 losses whilst scoring 10 and conceding 13. However though I believe they will be a hard side to break down I cannot see any further then another home win for Norrkoping as they go towards the title and a place in the top division. The Head 2 Head record between these 2 sides in recent times would tend to bear this out with Norrkoping winning 4 of the 5 games played since the turn of the century. May 17, 07 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 0 - 1 IFK Norrkoping Jul 23, 05 Superettan IFK Norrkoping 0 - 1 Osters IF Vaxjo Apr 16, 05 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 1 - 2 IFK Norrkoping Aug 16, 04 Superettan IFK Norrkoping 3 - 0 Osters IF Vaxjo May 24, 04 Superettan Osters IF Vaxjo 1 - 2 IFK Norrkoping At best price 3/5 with various bookies it may not be the value bet of the day but in my opinion considering the gulf in class between the 2 teams should be an even shorter price. 3. Re: UEFA Cup - qual - 1st leg (Tue 31/7 - Thu 2/8) The game i am interested in is the one between Dynamo Minsk of Belarus and Skonto Riga of Latvia. The first leg in Latvia ended in a 1-1 draw so the tie is still very open. Dynamo Minsk are currently 8th in their league and by their standards they are having a bad season as they were runners up in the league last year. Their home record in the league reads W3 D2 L2 F3 A5 so it is obvious that a lack of goal power is one of their problems. They are a hard side to beat however and over the last 6 games they have W1 D4 L1 F4 A6 as their record and the worrying stat that in the 3 games at home during that period they have not scored. Skonto Riga are currently 3rd in the Latvian league and their away record in the league is W4 D1 L3 F14 A11,as opposed to Minsk they are currently top of the 6 game form table with 4 wins 1 draw and 1 lose whilst scoring 15 and conceding 9. I am going to have 2 bets on this match, firstly i will be backing Skonto on the Asian Handicap market with +0.5 goal which is currently best price 5/6 with Pinnacle, and also i will be playing the draw at best price 9/4 with Skybet with the intention of trading out during the game. I base my tip on the fact that Minsk are having a poor season and are struggling to get goals and Skonto know they have to score if they have any hope of progressing as Minsk got an away goal in the first leg so they cannot hope to sit back.

  4. Re: Fridays Bankers 3.15 Cheltenham: Kauto Star, prone to the odd mistake but still a class above and has a great attidue which will help if in a scrap going up the hill today. Ruby gets the best out of the horse and the fences are not as hard as previous years.
