  1. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13

Aaron Finch returns to the Renegades team after being dropped from the Australian ODI squad. This is a huge boost for the Renegades, but he must be feeling the pressure after a terrible two innings against Sri Lanka. Last time the two teams played the Heat set a dismal 133 and lost by six wickets. Despite the Heat hitting form right at the right time, I still think the Renegades @ $1.67 will take the win and the Champions League spot.
Thanks for the info, TWP. Just to add, found this on the Renegades w/s: "Renegades captain Aaron Finch will return to the Renegades line-up for tomorrow night's KFC T20 Big Bash League's BIG SEMI FINAL against the Brisbane Heat at Etihad Stadium after being released from the Australian squad following their first two one-day internationals against Sri Lanka. Finch, the Renegades leading batsman in BBL|02 with 309 runs at an average of 77.25 and strike rate of 128.21, will form a brutal opening partnership with Englishman Alex Hales, who belted 89 from just 52 balls on his Renegades debut against the Sydney Sixers last Wednesday." Sqaud lists from the BBL official site: Renegades: Aaron Finch ©, Ben Rohrer, Peter Nevill, Daniel Harris, Brendan Drew, Alex Hales, Muthiah Muralitharan, Will Sheridan, Alex Doolan, Darren Pattinson, Aaron O'Brien, Tom Cooper, Nathan Rimmington. Heat: James Hopes ©, Alister McDermott, Nathan Hauritz, Dan Christian, Luke Pomersbach, Joe Burns, Chris Hartley, Peter Forrest, Chris Lynn, Chris Sabburg, Kemar Roach, Cameron Gannon, Ben Cutting Finch and Murali back for the Renegade's is a big boost as you say. I imgine Finch will be disappointed to have been dropped, I guess he can react in one of two ways: shrink from the challenge or use it to show his skills again to the selectors. I reckon he is a tough nut so perhaps it will be the latter. Cutting also back for Brisbane according too their w/s ( but no Perera ). Bowled 4-0-12-2 in the group game at the Etihad so I'm sure the Heat will feel more confident with him back in the side. Have to agree that all things considered I think the Renegades are to be fancied. But equally I wouldn't want to write off Brisbane completely, they have picked up a bit of momentum as Alf says. Also I think the group game was quite close in a way, Melbourne's middle order had to put in a shift towards the end to get the win. I'm not sure the 2.29 on Betfair is sufficient incentive to back the Heat for an away win though. 2.99 on Betfair for Finch to come back and bag the top batsman market which may be of interest. 19 behind Marsh.
  2. Re: Caribbean T20 2013

Hi Marshland' date=' I haven't had a look at the Barbados game since it started (so I may be wrong) but the runouts I think is very good bet in just about every match in this tournament. The running is farcial alot of the time and blindly backing the runouts certainly has been profitable. Noone will have the nerve to go odds on for over 1.5 runouts so value will be there consistently I believe.[/quote'] Thanks Tanos, helpful to know becasue I don't have ESPN and so haven't seen any of the coverage. In the 11 matches so far, the run out count has been: 1, 1, 2, 1, 0, 2, 0, 1, 4 (!), 1, 1. So I definitely agree this has got a chance every match ! Laid Jamaica last night at 1.06 when Leewards were 60 something for 5. Cornwall and Thomas then when nuts, 1 run away from a payday for the thread ! And as for CCC, the dream is alive gentlemen :p
  3. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Rain about tonight guys. Barbados are 1/3 stan james which doesn't really appeal after their implosion last night, and much as I like the triple C I can't back them at 11/4 bet365, skybet. One thing I did notice was that skybet are 6/5 on over 1.5 runouts in barb v ccc. Barbados have somehow contrived to get run out four times in their last two games. If they end up in a scratchy run chase where the boundaries aren't coming, wet field with players slipping over, shall we / shan't we... I will leave it i reckon but wanted to mention.

  4. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Yes dont't worry at all. I thought they were both solid shouts. Braithwaite was nowhere close so apologies there. Losing Walton early was not what we / CCC needed. Don't know what prices were in play I'm afraid. Could well have been another nicely profitable lay. I keep thinking these scores of 130 odd are gettable but then the chasers make them look massive !

  5. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13

Wow..... just wow..... Having laid the scorchers mid innings the only good thing about this that the strikers NRR will be shot to s...t which leaves the door open for Brisbane if they can beat Hobart.
That was more than slightly surprising ! I suppose you could say it was a half of a classic. Got a breather in the schedule tomorrow, so perhaps an opporunity to take stock on the thread again ? Current outright odds are: Perth 11/4 Stan James Renegades 3/1 Ladbrokes Stars 10/3 bet365 Hobart 5/1 bet365 Brisbane 11/1 betfair That is spot on about the NRRs - Adelaide are -0.162, Brisbane are +0.129 so Saturday is a straight eliminator. Most teams have had a game now after the player changeovers; how much can be read into the results is perhaps the question. Renegades, they surprised me a bit yesterday. Kev called it spot on mind you. Sixers were depleted it's true, but still I think if the team all turn up in the semi they can overcome either Brisbane or Hobart at home. They will have had few extra days rest to integrate Hales into the team a bit more, rest up, practice their drills and what have you. They have been 7/2 or thereabouts for most of the comp, so 3/1 is perhaps an ok price given they have a home semi. I have put 3/10 on them ( as per the above mentioned odds ) in the hope they make the final and can be laid at even money or thereabouts. Similar strategy to Alf. Perhaps I am a bit reliant on another Hales epic here, but I will give it a go. I suppose you shouldn't write off Warney, but like you say Perth seem to be picking up form at the right time while Stars have dipped a bit and are now sans Slinger and others. Can't really see any angle on the top batsman market after today. Marsh is 4/17 on betfair, possibly worth a lay if you think Stars can knock out Perth and Hodge can make up the 50-odd runs difference over the two games he would have in that scenario ? Cheers
  6. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Nice spot :) I've also just put a speculative point on Justin Braithwaite top Barbados batsman at 7/2 bet365. For similar reasons to your sixes pick really - if they come out throwing the bat then he seems like a chap who can do some damage, and he has taken this honour in both their first two games. See they are back on in the first game. 37/2 after six overs so we have a chance :hope

  7. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 So I had a nibble on the CCC win, 7/2 Blue Square 1/10 and 1/10 on Tanos's nice pick above. Currently Windwards are 27/1 after 4 overs and they have gone off for rain. Hopefully the weather relents and we get a full game. Or perhaps CCC will benefit from some D/L shenanigans ! Guyana v Barbados will be an interesting one I think. Perhaps a Barbados win is the preferred result, would leave us with: Barb plyd 3 pts 12 TnT plyd 3 pts 9 Jam plyd 3 pts 5 Guy plyd 2 pts 4 CCC plyd 3 pts ?! WI plyd 2 pts ? LI plyd 2 pts 0 Idle speculation, we shall see.

  8. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 I've just taken 1.95 for the strikers on betfair, i think they are a solid outfit with a lot of belief. Tait is a menace. Thought the way renegades coped without their missings yesterday was impressive. Thought they would struggle without Finch. More of that from Hales and they may have a chance, they strike me as tough nuts to beat.

  9. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Never in doubt there, Wales - nice one ! I too like your reasoning, Tanos. Happy to follow on that one :) The students are 7/2 skybet for the win vs Windwards, i'll have another go on them with a point. Tonight could be their night against one of the less strong sides. Need a win tonight really to give the outright a hope. No reply yet from the WICB btw.

  10. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 I too would be surprised if they pulled those players put before the final. As you say it would not make much sense for the popularity of the t20. I have emailed the WICB asking them to clarify and if i get a response i will post it up.

  11. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 I'm not sure what the exact situation is to be honest. They play aus in 1st odi on 1 feb, final of this t20 on 20 jan. have just checked the schedule section of the WI cricket boatd website. It gives the dates for the tour as 29th jan onwards. Surely they won't hold the players for 9 days beforehand ? I might email them and find out ! if you find anything out please would you post it up, would be appreciated ? Thank you.

  12. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Betting unders on runs looks a good plan. Only three innings so far have gone over 100 i think ? Bonner did top score for Jam last night in the end, although that wasn't hard. Perhaps i was being naive there on his price. I will back him next time i think and see what happens. Gayle can only come in to the Jam squad now to replace an injury, i read on cricinfo. Reckon the coach will be looking for volunteers for a broken thumb in the nets ! I cashed out my jamaica in play when Barbados were 40/5, made a small profit which i have staked on CC&C outright at 60 ( betfair ) for sport and a shared interest on the thread. I agree that they have not been disgraced thus far. I don't believe they are the worst team in it. If they can finish third for a chance to make the final then who knows ! With TnT, still a slight uncertainty for me about them losing their internationals for the odi series before the final. They are looking ok though i think for the time being. Hope they don't get complacent is all. Not sure what the games are tonight, will peruse after work.

  13. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Just put minimum allowable stake on Jamaica at 100 ( 99/1 ) on Betfair during innings break. Probably all be over before the end of the power play if last night is anything to go by. But seeing the Thunder collapse today reminds me that unexpected things can happen, and I reckon they can and will happen in this comp.

  14. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13

Bah Melbourne announced that all three of their ODI players WILL be available for tomorrow nights match. Still waiting for news of Malinga, but he will be replaced by Dimi Masch if need be. Jackson Bird also back in the squad. Khawaja presumably available for Sydney. Looking at the win market again I have taken a punt on Brisbane at 20's. They have a team full of scrappers and I think they will go to Hobart and win. This would leave them needing the Stars to lose tomorrow, or the Strikers or Scorchers to lose heavily. Just noticed the Stars price has plumetted ten ticks in the last few hours.... News on Malinga maybe?
That is hard luck on Thunder, Alf. Half-way through their reply it looked like that bet was landed and you were going to be rewarded for persevering with them. :wall At least they have been put out of their misery now.
  15. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 So Skybet are 11/4 about Bonner for top Jamaica batsman tonight. They is getting towards Christopher Henry Gayle territory so I will respectfully decline. The bookies don't miss a trick do they ? ...except, sometimes they do. Spotted an arbitrage opportunity if anyone is reading and is interested: Skybet: T&T to win ( v CCC ), 1/5, 10 units stake. Returns 12. Sportingbet (UK): CCC to win, 11/2, 2 units. Returns 13. 12 units staked, return of 12 or 13 for a risk free 1 unit profit opportunity ( or at least there was at the time of writing ). I know some guys like this sort of thing so I wanted to pass on the info.

  16. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 So close ! Checked the score when I got up and managed to determine they had lost on the last ball. Then saw your post, Alf, and realised the students had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Got to be philosophical - just grateful I wasn’t actually watching it ! Had a spare few mins today to check the prices. I agree that there is not much being given away in the match odds. Was happy to burn a point on CCC yesterday against Guyana but they were the same price of 4/1 for tonight ( widely available ) when I looked. Bit of pressure on TnT maybe ? Looking at the table it’s 4pts for a win and 1 for an NR, so you would think they can’t really afford so slip up and register 1pt from 2 games. You could be right though, it might get horrible if the Trini-bagons get going. Having said that, wonderful bet on them outright at nearly 100/1 ! I was going to follow for a shared interest / bit of fun, but the best I could find was 25/1 ( ! ) Skybet. I’ll keep a watching brief and see if they drift sufficiently; shall follow if the chance arises. The one bet I could be interested in for Barb v Jam is for Bonner to top score for Jamaica. That 80 odd off 60 odd balls v India A has ( rightly or wrongly ) caught my eye. If the compilers price him up as a middle-order player like it says on his cricinfo biography, but in fact he opens again, then perhaps there might be some value to be had. I might be focussing on the wrong thing here, and there is Tino to contend with, but if he is 7/1 or 8/1 then I might see what happens with a point.

  17. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Morning, Just checked Stars official website - Malinga confirmed as unavailable. Dimi replaces him. Not sure what to make of this game ! Labrokes have khawaja's runs handicap at over 21.5 ( 5/6 ) which sounds gettable and has been covered in last three games but i think i may sit this one out. Best of luck to everyone who gets involved guys.

  18. Re: Caribbean T20 2013

Jamacia backable at 2.24 with T&T 98/5 Is that market love or is the Jamacian hutch that bad!
Jamaica's hutch a mystery. Didn't get to see much of them last night did we. However, here's what I have been able to find out from a quick trawl of cricinfo which may ( or may not ) help. Nkrumah Bonner: 2 T20I games for WI A vs India A last June. Hit 25, and 82. One full T20I app last March, 24 vs Aus. Described as an allrounder but opened yesterday, and when he hit the 82. John Campbell: Only 19, hardly any info on him. Hit a ton against England in the U19 world cup last year ( 50 ovs match ). Danza Hyatt: relatively experienced. 5 T20Is at an average of 16. Played v India A last June, 13 and 13, Tamar Lambert ©: looks like he is an experienced 4 day player but questions over his T20 form ( played 9 matches at an average of 4.66 accoring to cricinfo ). Here's an extract from an article on him I stumbled across ( Stabroek News website, 28th Dec ): Jamaica’s captain Tamar Lambert is planning to prove his critics wrong by performing consistently in the upcoming Caribbean T20 tournament starting next month. Lambert has been under some pressure here after comments in some cricket circles claim he is not suited for the shortest format of the game and therefore should not have been included in the national set-up. “People sometimes say stuff, but I don’t worry about what they say because that’s their opinion” Lambert told the Jamaica Observer. “I can only prove them wrong by going out there and performing consistently”. Lambert struck a thunderous 74 in an easy victory against a Jamaica Premier League (JPL) XI in a recent practice match as his side continues preparation for the T20 tournament being jointly held in Trinidad & Tobago and St Lucia from January 6. His knock, which included 11 fours and two sixes scored from only 46 balls, comes on the heels of other impressive innings in local competitions. “It was a good innings, but I still can improve” said the 31 –year- old cricketer. “I’m a confident person, but I always try to look at my cricket and see where I am lacking. It has been constant work in practice sessions as I get geared up for this Caribbean T20 competition”. Jamaica, title-holders of the regional four-day and Super50 competitions, have never won a T20 title. However, the former national youth player, who has successfully led Jamaica in five straight four-day campaigns, believes confidence could help his men take the title from defending champions Trinidad and Tobago. David Bernard: all rounder, played one T20I. 27 T20s recorded, ave 11, HS 36. Andre Russell would seem to be Jamaica's biggest name. Bonner could be a danger. Lambert, I guess he must have something about him if his team has one the 4 day comp for 5 straight years. Perhaps he feels he has a point to prove. Not much to go on really. Clearly the bookies didn't fancy them against Narine and Badree ! What a hard comp to call unless you know the Carbbean cricket scene in detail.
  19. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Combined Colleges and Campuses to beat Guyana. 4/1, Sportingbet. 1/10 pts. A blind, greedy-guts bet made on the basis of price alone and nothing else. Therefore it deserves to lose. And I definitely won't grumble if it does. But maybe it will win.

  20. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13

Great work chaps. That Australia ODI squad has opened this tournament right up now. Marshland, just one small thing, the Renegades guaranteed that they'll be at home throughout the playoffs with their win today :ok
Sorry Kev you are quite right about renegades fixtures, careless of me. Malinga will be with SL as well for 1st ODI match on the 11th right ? If he is not available for Stars next match that is a huge miss for them with mckay out too, am not sure what SL's plans are though for getting squad together.
  21. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13

Well guys it finally feels like we are coming to the business end of the test match of all T20 comps, though saying that there is still another two weeks before we get a winner :lol So with the ODI's approaching lets have a natter about how the Aus squad will effect the BBL. George Bailey (capt), Phillip Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Aaron Finch, David Hussey, Brad Haddin (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Mitchell Johnson, Ben Cutting, Mitchell Starc, Clint McKay, Xavier Doherty. Finch obviously a massive blow for the renegades who must be opposed from now on in. Bailey and Dohery depart from the Hurricanes with Cowan returning. Maxwell & McKay missing from the Stars. After their loss today I dont mind backing the Thunder to record a ridiculous victory next time out. Moving on from depletions, bizarrley, and maybe worryingly, the only two teams not to be effected by the one day squad are the forum outrights, the strikers and scorchers. I can never tell how these things work but the Strikers could see the return of Lyon and Ajmal to the team. Could this mean they are worth a top up at 6/1 with Betfair? The only worry is the strikers and scorchers may play off for a semi final place depending on other results.
Thanks Alf for posting this, that is helpful info ;) Finch, what a comp he has had. He worked Malinga out today in my opinion, and not many have in this BBL. He will be a massive loss for them in terms of runs, they will miss his leadership too. And Samuels too after that injury. Agree to opposing them, especially if they end up in an away semi on a track which doesn't suit their spinners. With Adelaide, the more I have seen of them ( and I have watched more of this comp than has necessarily been good for family life ! ) the more I have liked them. Their top order is solid and consistent I think ( Klinger a great ante post shout ). Lyon and Ajmal have been well in the wickets just now ( Ajmal a 5fer in the ODI today I think ? ). Believe Pollard is off to sunny Carribean now though. That display of fielding against Hobart was one of the best I can remember ( that catch by Richardson was an all time classic ) - I do believe that counts for something in this format. And the way they celebrated after one or two of those wickets, I think they believe they can do it. 6/1 might well be worth a go - appears they have come in during the day though, now same as Perth at 11/2 best. I don't know how you can separate those two teams. With Hobart, does anyone one know if Hilfenhaus will be back before the long drawn-out end ? The last I saw his injury would keep him away but he would make a difference for them, I feel they have been a bowler light. Losing Xavier won't help. Joint 5th wicker taker & 9th best economy. I thought they were starting to look very consistent until that Adelaide defeat. Don't really know what to make of the Stars. Fallen well short in last two matches. Warne knows his job but lost his cool today under pressure and I'm not sure how well he can communicate with Lasith, his main match-winning asset ( in my opinion ). He jokes about it on that Fox commentary contraption ! Even more important with no McKay. Would certainly think about opposing them next up, except the Thunder are so abject and lacking in spirit & confidence I don't know if I could put actual money on them at the MCG ! Not at less than 7/4 or so but again that is just my opinion :) This is such a hard comp to call now. There are four teams below Renegades who are 7-4-3 - it is a bit like the ( English ) Championship in football, any team in the top half is capable of beating any other. Laying the Renegades outright at 19/7 on Betfair could be a play given the Finch factor, but I'm not sure I'd really want to take on that libaility. One or other of Perth or Adelaide will go through to the semis, I reckon backing whichever of those progresses might, depending in price, be the way as I can think of reasons to back them and reasons to oppose the Melbourne teams. Bit of a stream of consciousness but my wife has had enough of my musings so they get directed at you guys now, apols ! Neil
  22. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 Combined Colleges & Campuses are 15/4 to beat Guyana on Betfair on Tues 8th Jan. Should any team ever be 4/1 ( almost ) to beat another in T20 ? Who can say, but the students did beat Sussex last year and Jamaica in 2011 !

  23. Re: Big Bash League 2012-13 Gayle seems to have the demeanour of a chap who just wants to be on the plane home. Such a shame because he can light up a tournament. I thought Prior might help sort them out but I'm not sure he's that interested. Without Khawaja they would be...well, bottom !

  24. Re: Caribbean T20 2013 I am looking forward to this, some joyful calypso cricket and sunny scenes to cheer up these dark January nights :) Know relatively little about most of the players aside from the big T20 names and WI internationals so it will be great to learn more about the teams & cricketers as the comp progresses. Given my lack of knowledge I was a bit fearful of taking any big bets in the outrights, but I have had a nibble on Trinidad & Tobago to win at 7/4 with Sportingbet ( yesterday ). Their squad just looks so strong on paper, particularly their batting order and they have won it for two years straight with a number of the same players. Looks like Narine will be at the BBL for a while longer though and I read today on cricinfo that Rampaul has been withdrawn due to injury which would seem to diminish their attack. Pollard should be back for their second ( not the first I don't think ) match though apparently which is good news for them. Also Trinidad is joint-hosting this year which might create a bit of home advantage, at least in the group stage where they have 4 games in Port of Spain. This could be handy given the group phase winner progresses straight to the final. I believe the final is on the 20th Jan, and WI's first ODI in Australia is not until 1st of Feb. So I'm hoping the T&T players ( and indeed those from the other teams, for the sake of the tournament ) involved in the tour won't fly out until after the final. Wasn't able to confirm this though unfortunately. Edwards and Best looks like a solid duo for Barbados so will be intersting to see how they go with the ball. They were at 7/2 earlier, maybe some value in them if they drift a bit further ? This was a bet made largely in ignorance in all honesty to have an interest in the comp. I am really looking forward to hearing the thoughts of the knowledgable Punters Lounge folk which I always find very interesting and helpful. Best of luck all
