  1. Re: Big Bash League 2013/14 Scorchers v Hurricanes: SM Katich over 22.5 runs ( 5/6, Ladbrokes ) Firstly - happy new year to everyone on the PL cricket threads, hope 2014 is happy and prosperous for you :) Managed to catch a bit of the Big Bash over Christmas, and in the Scorchers matches I saw I thought Simon Katich looked in really decent touch. Seemed like he was able to score all round the ground, and makes a good accumulative foil for the heavy hitters like Shaun and Mitch Marsh at the other end as they keep the strike rate ticking along. In four innings so far in BBL3 he has made 10, 29, 36 and ( most recently ) 75 batting at opener or first drop. I did look at his stats from the Big Bash last year but I wasn't sure how comparable they were as he was batting lower down the order then. I do however remember him having a pretty good Friend's Life T20 last summer, and when I checked the records he was Lancashire's second-top scorer with 265 runs at 44.16 - the best average for the county in that comp. No doubt I've condemned him to a first ball duck by writing this, and I guess the danger with these types of bets is it just takes one good ball or a bit of mean reversion to make them lose pretty quickly. However, he looks in good form and I'll have a go on the skipper to have a good dig on his home pitch here and cover what seems a reasonable line. Best of luck all.

  2. Re: The Ashes - Australia vs England

Ben Stokes top scoring batsman 8/1 skybet i like the look of this batsman his five wicket haul was impressive and he could score quite a few in this innings and with the batting more likely to collapse he could score big as he is impressive under pressure
Great call. Stokes has definitely given a very good account of himself, made of the right stuff.
  3. Re: India vs Australia - T20 International & ODI Series

Good shout Tripcore :ok. Final ODI preview: 10pts Over 12.5 6s 5/6 William Hill This series has been littered with high scoring matches and I fully expect to see another one here. MS Dhoni claimed in the presentation after the last game that he doesn’t know what could be scored on this ground but whatever is scored it is almost impossible to defend, as England found out when Kevin O’Brien and Ireland smashed them to all parts in the World Cup here. Every completed match in this series bar the first one when the Indian batting didn’t show up has had at least 13 sixes in it. On this the smallest ground of the lot we can expect an awful lot more clearing the ropes. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/india-vs-australia-7th-odi-betting-boundaries-at-bangalore-aren-t-big-enough-to-contain-these-two-sides
Smashed it ! Been a good series for you mate, nice one.
  4. Re: Pakistan vs South Africa - Test Series Top South Africa ( Test ) series runscorer: J P Duminy. 14/1, ladbrokes 1/10 ew (1/5, 1-3 ) I think Duminy is worth a small play here. Was out injured for a good while but he has been making a decent comeback; 84 v India A in August, some useful runs for Sunrisers in the Champions League, 49 in the warm up v Pak A last week. Also, he was top SA runscorer across the five ODIs against SL a couple of months back - a different format obviously but in spin-friendly conditions, as they are likely to be in the UAE. From what I've read he is almost certain to start the first Test ( Russell Domingo says on cricinfo he "very much sees JP being in the starting XI" ), and I would imagine / hope the second as well - the management do seem to be factoring his bowling into their plans. Clearly your Smiths and Amlas have to be respected in terms of competition. Smith has been out injured for ages though and hasn't had much cricket ( out for 2 in warm up ). Amla is potentially going to miss the 2nd test as his wife is due to give birth so he may be back in SA with his family. So we might dare to hope that JP may have a better chance in this series than could otherwise be expected. The other thing against him is that he will most likely bat 6, which is lower than is ideal. Looking back at the stats from the SA v Pak series in Feb though, AB de Villers was top runscorer across those three tests which gives me some hope that someone from the middle order can have an impact over a short series. Would probably need one big score, but he does have a Test HS of 166 which isn't too shabby. In truth this is a bit of a punt, and coming top is a pretty big ask. But at the odds I think it is worth a chance, where top 3 would make a small profit. Cheers.

  5. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Cheers Kev, and the same to you. Thought your points about csk and lions in your write up were fair. Think I got a bit carried away really. Shame about Maroons today. Thought they'd scored enough but it must be a decent pitch to be chasing on judging by both results. Not dead yet but need to win last two now with an eye on nrr. I doubled up on them this morning as well after I saw that four of the squad played in the World T20 final last year. At least Misbah got a decent start :)

  6. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Without meaning to monopolise the thread, one more I liked: Top Faisalabad Wolves team runscorer: Misbah ul Haq, 3/1 bet365. 1.5/10. The favourite in this market, and therefore not a very imaginative choice. But am hoping the cream will rise over the course of three games ( maybe more if they qualify for the competition proper ). Was top overall runscorer in the Pakistan domestic 'Super 8' comp, and has been in great nick in white ball cricket for Pakistan in recent times ( 2nd most runs in the ODI series vs Zimbabwe, and top vs Windies in the ODI series prior to that for example ). In the interests of balance, he did seem to bat 4 or 5 in the Super 8 comp, and someone higher up the order might be preferred in theory. He is on a good trot though, and has a lot more experience of playing abroad than most of the other batsmen in the team meaning he can hopefully perform without needing much time for adjustment. I think the price about him is fair here and I will give him a go. Good luck guys.

  7. Re: Champions League T20 2013 Such a shame no English sides this year. Northamptonshire could have done some carefree, belligerent damage I reckon ! After some debate I did 3/10 on chennai at 3/1 with skybet. I think they have them 11/4 now. It is a small price but I can't help but think they are the best side in it, with a point to prove after they lost to Mumbai in the ipl final. Indian teams have a good record in this comp when it has been held there. Mumbai a man short with malinga off on compassionate leave. I think csk have the skills and motivation. Also 1/10 e/w on the Highveld Lions at 14/1, stan James. They are admittedly off-patch but I think this is a fair price on last year's runners up. Reckon some hard cricket is played in the Ram Slam, they strike me as a group of tough nuts and I think / hope they have a decent chance of getting out of their group. A few buttone e/w also on kandurata maroons at 33/1, sportingbet. Think you can get 25/1 still with coral. Don't think a team from outside of India/SA/Aus has ever won this, they have to get through the qualifiers, and they are a makeshift outfit cobbled together after the SLPL fell through this year. Ie they have no chance on paper. But I do feel they have some good cricketers amongst their ranks - Sanga must have chosen them for a reason - and perhaps they can spring a surprise in sub-continent conditions. Or maybe not ! Should be a good comp, and best of luck to all.

  8. Re: Yorkshire Bank 40 2013 Tiswal thanks for the info above, very helpful :ok Think those results today mean Glamorgan are through to the semis on nrr from Northants ( despite that amazing knock from David Willey ), away to either Notts or Hants. Still in with a chance ! :)

  9. Re: Friends Life T20 2013 Good luck mate, hopefully RtD makes it a good day for us :ok I like the Essex most sixes call, that has been a recurring winner this season. Also am on White to beat Levi in the Hills batsman matchbet, 10/11. I don't make him the outsider given his contribution in this comp and Levi's deficiencies.

  10. Re: Friends Life T20 2013 Finals Day tomorrow, good times :) Just seen one I like: Top Finals Day batsman: Ryan ten Doeschate, 33/1 Ladbrokes I think this is a big price. 100 runs could win this, I think judging by that knock at Trent Bridge he has got them in him at the moment. He is not top of the run charts or anything like that but I think he can put a couple of explosive knocks together under pressure, which is probably what it will take to win this. You'd have to say there are factors against him here: Carberry, the fact he comes in down the order, also that Essex have never made it past the semi finals in this comp so on that basis he might only get one innings. Also looking for early Essex wickets, which may or may not come. But still, David Miller ( 119 ) won this market last year batting 5 for beaten finalists Yorkshire which provides an element of precedent. No e/w option on this particular market so I'll go half a point on Ryan to win. Also for those compelled to bet on the Mascot Derby with Paddy Power, I reckon Bomber the Spitfire is the call - costume doesn't include any extravagant headgear so visibility is good, and the legs are relatively unencumbered. Only a pair of comedy oversize shoes impede the runner. This is the closest Kent will come to winning anything this season, and at 7/1 this unexposed and progressive aeroplane can reward backers. :lol Best of luck to all, hopefully the rain stays away.

  11. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Good luck gentlemen, you deserve some after that bizarre result last night. I had been thinking Port of Spain was reasonably friendly to the spinners, but I am happy to stand corrected on that. A nice price on Trinis in either case :)

  12. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 I've had a nibble on Jamaica to bt TnT, Even money on paddy power. An away fixture for Jamaica but the track at Port of Spain could suit their spinners and the hosts got completely turned over at the weekend. Jamaica's top order batting was pretty solid in winning their previous game and all things considered I wouldn't have them as the outsider for this match. Best of luck all.

  13. Re: Sri Lanka vs South Africa - ODI & T20 Series

    Top Sri Lanka ( ODI ) series batsman: K C Sangakkara 11/4 ( bet365 )
Sanga 372, Dilshan 273, et al.
5th ODI: Top Sri Lanka wicket taker: Ajantha Mendis ( 3/1' date= stan james )
Mendis and Suranga Lakmal both took 3, so dead heat and a small profit, which is fair enough. Happy punting days ! :)
  14. Re: Friends Life T20 2013

Any views on Glamorgan v Glos ? I'm thinking of value with Glos here for a few reasons - they hammered the same team last week ( minus Simon Jones admittedly)' date=' Glos have had a rocket from the boss re playing for their careers so they won't be turning up to make up the numbers and Glamorgans boss did an interview paraphrased as 'we won't bottle it' which in my view makes it more of a possibility ! Glamorgan overseas North has been very poor and slow scoring compared to Klinger. I expect a slow wicket and if Glamorgan bat first Glos should chase it down. * * * * I'd avoid the nothants match as they likely to rest players and worcs are without Russell so no bet there for me. In the other match i fancy somerset but not at odds on. I may dabble in running on that if they drift.[/quote'] Super shout on Gloucs :)
  15. Re: Caribbean Premier League 2013 Best of luck as always, mate. I also took Jamaica when the markets came up yesterday. Had been keeping an eye out for prices for a little while and was pleasantly surprised to see them at 9/2. Like you, I thought their squad list looked the most attractive when the auction was made in early June. ( albeit Rampaul is now apparently injured ). To an extent I think you have to leave aside the 'icon' players, as one man alone can't win a comp. What I liked about them is not only the 'pool a' and international 'pool b' players you mention, but also the domestic 'pool b' and 'pool c' lads. Having followed the domestic comp earlier in the year I recognised a few of those guys. Chadwick Walton was fifth on the runs list in that comp playing for the Combined Colleges, and then 5th again in the 4 day comp runs list. Nkrumah Bonner is a full international, as is Danza Hyatt. Not to suggest they are they only good local players in the comp but they will hopefully provide some depth. My main reservation with them is Gayle's captaincy, but he showed earlier in the year he can devastate the local bowlers even when on a bad trot at international level. And at least he is from the right Island ! Have also had a saver on Guyana, they do admittedly lack star names but I was thinking they could be this comp's Brisbane and make progress on the back of some unspectacular cricket. Their record in the previous incarnation was also pretty good although there is a limit to how much that counts for now. 6/1 on bet365. Agree T&T are worth opposing with so many of that winning team missing, and if nothing else for the 'Red Steel' name ( was that Zoolander ?! ). Anyway best of luck all, hopefully it will be a good tourney.
